"Phantom is so much better though. Do you really want to be a rock?"

"Right!? They have no right being in the sky! Rocks should be on the ground!"

"But Phantom team sounds kinda over aggressive. You can't let your feelings blind your end goal. 'When the weakness of anger takes over, the strength of reason leaves.'" Elan says.

Aria laughed, her voice tinged with a lilting quality. "At least we're able to crush people. Can Phantoms say the same? What are you going to do, shout BOO really loudly? Every planet, to its core, is a rock. We're what truly belongs here. We've been in space much longer than you, Phantom."

as a phantom of the opera fan, this is really funny to me.

"Oh, Obsidian, it's cute that you think your team is as imposing as a rock. Last time I checked, rocks weren't known for their strategic prowess or agility on the field. Phantoms, though? We're like ghosts – elusive, unpredictable, and haunting your dreams."

"Big words for some pebbles."

"Um... okay... I'd start my own but no one would join. But it sounds like they all fight too much."

Aria's voice turned softer, almost gentle. "...I understand." It sounded like she was crying for a moment, until it became clear she was just laughing once more. "It's perfectly all right to be afraid. It happens to everyone. Sometimes... it's okay to admit that you're not enough. Phantom, Phantom, if only you were elusive enough to hide from your own stupidity, perhaps you could have been great." Her laughing stopped. "And there is nothing more predictable than a melody one has heard over and over, drummed into a brain. You're nothing more than an arpeggio. You're a scale, a chord, a Middle C. Basic. Overplayed. Give me something I've never heard before. Something that I'll remember." She shook her head. "You're nothing worth remembering. Nothing worth my dreams." She let out a sigh, and for the first time seemed sad. "Is there anyone on your crew that is worth a song?"

"Oh, I'll give you a song," Twig said, grinning. Twig picked out Aria's ship, then boosted towards it at Mag-7. She light-lanced onto it and used it to swing her up into position to perform an expert triple-Ahlstrom loop with a reverse switchback.

“Callsign: Lord,” Len replied. “Obsidian Flight and Phantom Flight were told to have a friendly skirmish…why are you here?”

Len just laughed. “If you can’t handle it, you’d better head back to the ground, Phantom…you are a Phantom, right?”

Can I secretly be viewing them or something? Like judging them for the DDF flightleader?

Aria, her voice cool, performed a series of maneuvers that involved a Reverse Backpedal and a Banking Roll. "This has nothing to do with a song. I don't think you understand." She turned her ship to face Twig. "A song is something beautiful. A song is something..." She laughed lightly. "A song is something more beautiful than life. A song is something that will ring in your head when all else is silent." Her voice turned cold. "This is nothing that spectacular."

Aria jokingly scoffed. "To lose reason is a freedom I will never find. The only thing we share are our base instincts, our Nature. Nothing more. To lose reason is to lose yourself, not to be a pariah to society's beliefs. And I have not lost myself; I never will."

so basically now i need to write a scene for the future where aria inevitably loses herself :D

Diana nosedives toward Nova's ship.

"Well, that's no fun." She sounds hurt.

Nova quickly dodged and latched onto Diana's ship.

Wait, is Diana on Obsidian or Phantom?

Twig snorted again. "If you didn't want to get hurt, then don't join the scudding DDF! Maybe you should have gone into knitting, unless you're too frightened of pricking your finger."

"Phantom is so much better though. Do you really want to be a rock?"

"At least I'm not a literal stick."

"If you are a Phantom, doesn't that mean that you are dead? How'd you die? Crash landing?" Nova giggled.

Seven held his finger on the call button, but no words came out. Eventually, he released it.

A long-lost echoed in his mind. Welcome to the best flight in the galaxy!

Nova's words.

Seven blinked. He'd zoned out again.

"Prince?" he said. "What prince?"

Elan rolls his eyes. Then he uses his light lance, expertly using other ships to swing around until he flies right under Diana, IMPing her as he passes. His ships swings around his acclivity ring, then locks into place as Elan shoots a blue beam at Diana from his Destructors.

It's made to shut down all the ships functions but the acclivity ring.

So you stay alive.
