TAAron continued to watch as his past self scaled higher and higher. "Here it comes."

A branch snapped, and the boy fell. The memory ended.

She took his hand. "What happened to you?"

"I broke my arm, and got a concussion." He shrugged, and he and the forest vanished from her dream.

"Yeah, you're welcome." He smiled at her, though it was interrupted by a wince as he reached for his dagger.

The scene faded and left them on the small ledge that wrapped around a castle turret. A young girl clung to the spike at the top, her face turned up to the sky and her fancy dress flapping, streaming golden glitter into the wind.

"Oh," Haly said, then laughed a little and sat down so she wouldn't fall and ruin the memory. "I remember this."

Angry voices called distantly from hallways beneath, the shouts traveling further than sounds should be able to. The girl grinned up at the clouds.

"They find me eventually," Haly said. "I'd come up here all the time to get out of anything I didn't want to do."

TAAron laughed. "That's like me in a closet at home. Can't saw I had any towers to frolick on, though."

"Frolic," she said, as if tasting the word. "Frolic. Close enough."

A maid's face appeared from a window further down. The ensuing shriek broke the dream and left it to fade away.

TAAron moved into a new dream. Tristan, a bit older now, stood in the middle of a violent storm. Malum stood in the sky before him, in his true form that looked nearly angelic, holding a flat shard of metal, like a piece of broken glass, that cut into his hand. TAAron's young self ran from a nearby house, buffeted by wind and torrents of rain.

TAAron's hand tightened on hers. He watched, jaw tight and face pale. His younger self ran up to Tristan, grabbing his arm and yelling something that was lost in the roaring wind. Malum cackled, swinging the shard. The ground shook and cracked, and buildings fell and crumbled.

She wished she could drag him away. Would that fix anything? Should she?

Another slash created what appeared to be a great tear in the sky. Darkness crept from it, movingly quickly, erasing, streaking to the ground and consuming. Houses, trees, people all were flung about by the storm, and were lost in the darkness that seemed to cut the world apart. In the middle of it, the two young boys under the laughing god were the last that it reached. TAAron held on for only a moment before it separated him away too, and in an instant it seemed he was infinitely fast away from everything else, nowhere at all, another piece of nothingness with a glowing crystal ring around an arm.

The dreaming TAAron watched on, tears streaming down his face. The two of them were not with the young boy, not really. They just watched. The boy was alone.

Haly couldn’t tear her eyes from the boy, but she reached up and brushed TAAron’s tears away regardless, careful and gentle.

That’s too much, her thoughts whispered. That’s too much for someone so young. Too much for anyone.

*is literally out rollerblading right now*

It's two hours earlier for me, so I don't see your logic.

By the way, her dreams don't also all have to be memories. TAAron's are because that's what his mind is processing right now, but hers could be normal dreams too.

He barely seemed to notice. TAAron wished for it to end, but they watched the young boy, within the darkness, seeming dead except for the faintest motion of breathing in his chest, for an agonizingly long moment. Then the darkness finally took him too. The memory ended.

Sorry. Y’all might have to like mention me in posts from now on just cause if I’m not mentioned or quoted I sort of skip over them cause I assume they don’t involve me.

…what do I need to do?

Haly’s next dream left them on a small island— not just small; tiny. Six meters in length, maybe. The grass was longer and thinner than it should be, and surrounding the island was a sea of liquid metal. A ship sailed not far away, headed for a different tiny island on which Haly, Rylla, and Mitis stood.

A shiver— good and bad— ran down her spine.

Well, there could be a conflict with the storm god because of what Lerac did. That could make for some good plot

Haly just watched.

The captain of the ship rappelled down the side and splashed through the shallows to the shore. He was gruff, red- haired, and robust. Haly couldn’t hear what he was saying, but she remembered the gist.

Don’t listen to him.

But there was nothing she could do to prevent the three from boarding the ship.

Lerac's eyes widened. "Aventine, don't-"

As soon as she touched the hilt, which seemed made of tarnished or burnt metal, the hand burst into flames. They were a strange gray color, travelling up her arm and to the rest of her faster than she could think, covering her in a thin, flickering blaze. The fire was not hot. It was terribly, terribly cold, seeming colder than ice, though something more than just ordinary warmth, like the horrible opposite to Lerac's healing. The cold consumed her, moving into the rest of her like it really was burning through flesh, despite her not having a mark on her. She felt death touch her soul, felt the core of herself trying to be separated from her body. Her heart slowed, her vision blurred, her muscles began to give out.

This all happened in only a moment. Then Lerac grabbed her wrist, heedless of the pain, holding it tight. The healing warmth seemed hot in comparison to the cold, and the deathly fire faded away.

This, for most people, would be the most terrifying thing that ever happened to them. Generally near death experiences are very scary, and this is that and much more.

The sea around the island shifted, and now there was a dock connected to a mainland next to their little island. The ship from before faded into view from the distance, and three people (two men, one woman) in crisp white clothing lined with a dark purple color stood on the dock.

"Hopefully they've got some girls this time," the woman said. "We need another lady-in-waiting."

The memory faded away.

TAAron appeared next in a corner of a library with a table covered in books. His past self, a few years older now, sat hunched over the books, reading intently. Occasionally he would glace at the spot next to him on the table that had the strange circle of white crystal that he had had on his arm the day of the storm.
