The entire street is covered in a very dark, and a slick, reflective surface. Feet made out of this surface, not connected to any legs, walk down the alleyway and stop outside of a building, after which they disappear and reappear at the mouth of the alleyway. Nandok walks over to the building that the footsteps stop at and drinks from a vial at his side. "Tin," he whispers to Merinn.

Were they naming metals? "Uh . . . steel," he whispered back, using the first one he thought of. He gave a thumbs up to be extra convincing that he knew what he was talking about. Ali'i giggled and started listing off all the metals he knew, including some Merinn had never heard of.
