Some Investitures, such as Sand Mastery or Surgebinding allow their practitioners to grow in power over time based on certain circumstances for each system.

But what if you gain that power via Hemalurgy?

For example, let's say that a Hemalurgist spikes a Sand Master and steals their ability to wield White Sand. If that Hemalurgist were to Overmaster, would they grow in power? If they do grow in power, is it the contents of the spike that grow in Investiture, or does the Hemalurgist's own Spiritweb grow instead?

The latter, the power is stored in the spike but as it is implanted into someone the power is placed into the person.

I imagine that it's similar to Savantism, you can grow your own abilities in Sand Mastery just the same, though with less overall power, as any other Sand Master

That could be pretty interesting. That means if the Hemalurgist gained enough power through Overmastery they could remove the spike and still retain some of their power.

Don't think so, it's kind of like cybernetics for the soul, if you put in the Spike you get powers, if you take it out they get removed.

Though it is an interesting idea, what would happen if someone get spiked with Allomancy, became a Savant with whatever metal they got, then removed the spike? Would their souls stay warped? Would they just keep all the downsides with no upsides?

If your soul warps like that, growing around the power, and then suddenly has the power removed, I think there's a strong chance you just die, honestly.

I don't think you'd necessarily die, though you'd gain all the downsides of Savantism while not burning (or tapping)- for example, if Spook were to have become a pewter Savant from his spike and then lost it, he'd probably be so physically incapable that he'd need assistance just to do basic things.

Or maybe he really would just die.
