Strange and Surprising Crossovers

Recommended Posts

I was watching one of my favorite movies the other day, one of my favorite books fresh in my mind, when it hit me. The two combine surprisingly well. Almost scarily well.

I almost didn't share this with you. The glory may perhaps be too much for mortal vision. A Raiders of the Lost Ark-style ending may very well happen at the end of this post.

But I must share.

I am referring, of course, to Mean Girls and Steelheart. Observe.

Heed the spoiler tags, if you haven't read and want to.

TwiLyghtSansSparkles claims no legal responsibility for any melting faces.

"I don't see why Steelheart should be able to stomp all over everyone with his big feet. I mean, since when was it okay to let one Epic be in charge of everything? That is not what Newcago is about! Faultline is just as smart as Steelheart. Faultline is just as cute as Steelheart. I think we should all just stab Steelheart!"

Curveball: If we work together, then why don't I know you?

Fortuity: Oh my God, Curveball! You can't just ask people why you don't know them!

Megan: So what are you going to do at this awesome assassination, huh? Are you going to take awesome shots and kill awesome Epics and just soak up each other's awesomeness

David: Uh….yeah, pretty much.

And that's how Steelheart died. No, I'm not kidding. And from then on, we knew how to handle any junior Steelhearts.

[three Epics get run over by a bus]

Yeah. That's exactly what we'd do.

Prof: So then, Steelheart said I couldn't kill him. But guess what, Steelheart? I'm Limelight! Suck on that

[Prof hits Steelheart in the face]

Any other crossovers that probably shouldn't happen but could?

Canon crossover: the Doctor exists in the Marvel Universe! With Optimus Prime!

The story, as I understand it, goes that in the 70's Marvel UK had the rights to both the Transformers and Doctor Who comics. The former comic introduced a villain named Deaths Head, who operated as a space mercenary robot...thing. At some point, he made an apperance in the Doctor Who strips, before migrating to the main Marvel universe.

Deaths Head was a part of the Marvel Universe, and then was part of the grim'n'gritty era of the 90's. Recently though he has appeared in the Marvel NOW and Ultimate Marvel eras.

Now, granted, the rights for the Transformers and Doctor Who have gone on to different companies, and Deaths Heads origins have become the kind of thing which is tacitly ignored...but still.

I like to think Optimus Prime and the Doctor have Avenger status.

Mistborn and The Fault In Our Stars:

Vin: Elend, I'm just a knife. And one day I'm going to kill people, and I don't want to hurt you.

Elend: I could be way worse. My family has kandra all over the house.

Elend: It's democracy, see? You put the power that does the dethroning right in the hand of the council, but you don't ever expect them to dethrone you. Democracy.

Elend: My thoughts are plans I can't fathom into practicality.

Some Mistborn are stronger than other Mistborn. A Hemallurgist I used to admire taught me that.

Kelsier: You don't get to choose if you get hurt in this world. But you do have a say in who you trust.

The opening storyline of Colin Bakers record-breaking eighth year as the Doctor had a controversial beginning when the Doctors trip to Nalthis resulted in the famous "coat of many colours" coming to life and trying to strangle him.

The serial famously concluded with the controversial (and thankfully temporary) decision on the Doctors part to wear a mist cloak, and the beloved rainbow coat was soon restored to it's proper place.

In the third issue of Marvel's first Transformers series Spider-man met the Transformers. It's been the better side of twenty years since I read it, but if I remember correctly Spider-man teams up with Autobot Gears to fight Megatron. It's worth a read if you can find it.

A few years ago Marvel and IDW did a Transformers/New Avengers crossover that I heard was good, but I can't personally speak about it.

Since I can hear the wife watching Friends, the only crossover I can think of is an army of Daleks and the cast of Friends.

WHO WILL WIN!?
