Quiver
Hey, I already started one thread for a rebooted science fiction show, right? Might as well go the whole nine yards. Anyone here a fan of BSG, whether it's the classic version or the Moore Reboot? Edited July 4, 2014 by Quiver
Briar King
I liked both OG and remake a lot. Now I thought Caprica and BS1980 were utter r u s t that never should have made it onscreen. Briar King
Hmm so the S word gets edited to rust? Wow.
Eerongal
Here's an explanation you've never heard before: I've seen the original BSG, but never the new one. Didn't avoid it for any particular reason, just didn't have the sci-fi channel when it came out, and havent put any effort into trying to find and watch it.
Briar King
You should try. It's one of the must watch on many list. Although I felt it got way to soapy in S4.
Arondell
I actually liked the reboot quite a bit for the first two seasons. After a while though I actually started to get kind of tired of what I felt was an overly angsty tone. The irrepressible repressiveness if you will. I just kind of drifted away somewhere in the third season. I eventually read a synopsis of the final episode a year or two after it aired. I guess I just kind of prefer a more Stargate kind of show. A bit more optimism. The Stargate : Universe series actually tried to duplicate some of the BSG ambiance and it didn't last long compared to the other installments in that series. I suspect because it alienated the "traditional" Stargate fans.
Briar King
That was a bummer to.. I really loved SG Universe.
Quiver
Honestly... I liked the rebooted series, but never thought they really went far enough with it. As dark and depressing as it was... I found myself wishing they went even darker, really showing the paranoia, the rampant and growing unhealthiness of the situation, the problem of starvation, government, etcetera... Yes, they were all things that happened or got touched on but... I wanted more of it. I wanted characters to end up asking themselves whether the voyage to Earth was even worth it. ...And hoenstly, I really like Caprica. Granted, that might be because I DVR'd them and watched them in a single burn, so the slower pace didn't really bother me so much... but I loved the world building in that show. It had a sense of confidence in how different it was from mainstream society that I really enjoyed.
ollie99
I have only seen the Moore reboot version which I really liked overall. I do find that it teetered off a bit at the end. After watching Battlestar Galactica I did not move on to watching Caprica but instead watched Firefly for the first time.
Reiyeka
I've only seen the reboot of BSG. Two friends showed up at my house and forced me to watch the 3 hour pilot, geeking over spaceships and eating my food. I kept up with the show after that, although I took a while to watch the final season after it aired. Had to get emotionally ready for those final cylons, ya know, lol. All in all, I really enjoyed it and I think at some point I'll rewatch it.
Khognilin
I loved the new BG for the first two season, it was one of the best shows on TV. The third one seemed to have lost direction. The forth had just too much deus ex machina for my taste. Stargate may have less production quality and the first season kind of sucks because they were still findinding their feet, but from there on it is my fav TV show of all times. I'm rewatching it for the n-th time now. I finally convinced by partner to watch it with me! Edited July 9, 2014 by Khognilin

My wife hated those 3 long hrs but I was like a happy 7 yr old boy with a new toy.
lyht
I quite liked BSG. Watched it from beginning to end. Portlandia has an episode called "One Moore Episode" where they start watching BSG on dvd and get hooked, always just watching one more. Soon they have both lost their jobs and friends as they stop leaving the house to stay and watch episodes... It has a fun ending. If you have netflix, go check it out, in season 2.

He was skeptical all the way through the first season, but now comes back from work every evening and says "Watch!"
Asperity
Yep. Watched the entire series twice. It drags on here and there, especially towards the last two seasons, and the ending is a bit... unimpressive. But otherwise, I loved it. Great character development.

I suspect because it alienated the "traditional" Stargate fans. While I also prefer a show more like the original Stargate (and Atlantis), I was really pleased with the rebooted BSG. (I've actually never seen the original, though a friend has loaned me the DVDs to watch sometime.) Anyhow, we watched BSG not terribly long after Lost ended, and we were really, really looking for a show that was interesting and that someone with similar taste could guarantee us had a satisfying ending. We borrowed or bought the DVDs and eventually made it to the end and were not disappointed. I know not everyone loved the ending, but I guess I'm one of those people who loves an end that's just a beginning.
Khognilin
People don't like the ending for many reasons. I for one dislike it not because they found a place to begin anew, that was okey and kind of expected. I disliked the whole "God did it." premise and the whole tirade against technology and how inreperable humanity is. The entire premise was antihumanistic and antireason. It was horrible from meaning of life and stuff perspective.
