HOID WANTS INSTANT NOODLES
So my friend (who I introduced to the cosmere) is convinced that the survival shard is adonalsium. As in adonalsium's conciousness survived in that shard. I dont think this is possible but dont know for sure. Is my friend's theory even plausible here?

Adonalsium's Cognitive Shadow survived, and Ascended to one of the 16 Shards? That's not likely. He couldn't Ascend during the Shattering, so he would have to wait for one of the 16 to die without being splintered (that excludes Dominion, Devotion, Ambition and Honor) and Ascend. We don't know about any other Shard being killed except those 4. Adonlasium's consciousness can't survive in one of the 16 Shards, as that would mean there is a mind to control that Shard, and that's a Vessel, so nobody can Ascend to that Shard anymore - but all 16 Shards got new Vessel from those who shatter Adonalsium, therefore Adonalsium can't survive in this way. And Adonalsium CS's intention to survive would be quickly overwritten by the sole intent of the Shard, so unless Shard's intent isn't in some form similar to surviving, after all those years he would stop wanting to survive. And if Shard's intent is similar to surviving, we're back to square one - what Shard is it? All Shards have some level of consciousness, as they can offer themself for somebody to Ascend, or encourage somebody to take them, for all we know, that's the nature of a Shard.
Quantus
Per WOB "Survival" is not it's intent and is only tangentially related. "Survival" is not it's Intent, it simply knows enough of what is going on to be worried. "Prudence" was one theory he said had a certain ring to it. Quote Seonid I've heard about a Shard that just wants to survive, hiding off-- it doesn't have a planet it doesn't-- Brandon Sanderson Right. Seonid --out there in space, trying to survive. Does it have the intent of like Fear, or something like that? Brandon Sanderson The intent is related but only tangentially. Mostly it just knows what's going on and is smart enough to get out of there. Bands of Mourning release party (Jan. 25, 2016) Quote Paleo In May, in Germany, you told me that... or I asked whether Wisdom was a Shard, and you said it was or something like it, and that wisdom was close to an intent of a Shard, and you also told me that it has realized that survival isn't necessarily the most important thing for it. I wanted to ask whether it has realized that over time or was it from the get go? Brandon Sanderson Over time. Paleo Okay, so then naturally, my next question: Is it the survival Shard? Brandon Sanderson RAFO. Paleo And then somebody actually came up with another good probable name. Is Prudence close? Brandon Sanderson Prudence sounds an awful lot like a Shard name. That's some excellent theorizing there. Prague Signing (Oct. 26, 2019)
