Are the specific properties of Honor and Cultivation's metals to cut souls and all nonliving things?

No, That's specific to shardblades; Plate does not magically cut and is also made of  Honor and Cultivation's metals. We don't know why shardblades do it, but we do know how (basically magic forcefields.)

Intent does play a role in how Shards work. Plate can be dimmed, Blade can be dulled, maybe that is an explenation

No, because you can make shardblades out of other things.

What makes them cut the soul has something to do with them being sentient.

What other things?

Shardblades are literally made of the power of a god. How can something like steel make a shardblade?

Nightblood is made out of steel, which was invested, and he is a Shardblade.

Nightblood and Azure's sword are both shardblades made of steel, and you could do the same for other metals.

Additionally Seons and Skaze can become shardblades with some work put in, and neither of them have any Cultivation or Honor in them.

All shard blades (that we know of) fit in these catagories,

A: Investure; All Shardblades are invested, Either by virtue of being a god metal or by being invested by an outside magic system EX: breaths, Tanvastium (Maybe Ferchemy? Probably needs some weird abuse of the system.)

B: Intent; All Shardblades have some form of intent, either by a Bio-Chromatic command or by the intent of their investiture EX: Destroy evil, The Aon in Seons, Spren's whole thing, Presumably the Honorblades.

C: Sentient/Aware; All known Shardblades are self-aware to some point; some have memory issues while others refuse or can not talk (Brandon has said the Honorblades are sentient), but they all have the capability to think.

Remember just because a blade is invested and has intent, does not mean it is a Shardblade. Correct me if I'm wrong, but the Raysium dagger was never referred to as a Shardblade right?

My theory is that the Honor/Cultivation alloy creates a very powerful weapon in the form of the Shardblades. It can be reasonably extrapolated that spren are blobs of Investiture that became sentient and sapient. So my theory is that the blades being more or less solid Investiture makes them able to cut souls. Another thought is that since spren exist in the Cognitive Realm and then manifest on the Physical, perhaps that allows for certain interactions with the soul that we don’t understand. In addition, certain Radiant abilities, namely the Bondsmiths, can interact with people’s spirit webs. So that might have something to do with it. But that’s just a theory. Also, we read that Radiant could dull her Blade when she was training with Adolin, so that does change things.

I always thought that with enough Intent, Investiture and hard work anything could be made into anything.

After all, this is magic and the raw power of Investiture can be shaped to whatever one Intends.

So by that logic I would have thought a 'Shardblade' or other magical device could be made of anything.

Of course it would be much easier to get a god-being to just poof it into existence (e.g. spren and shardblades).
