Tglassy Posted February 28, 2023 Posted February 28, 2023 (edited) I am working on a fan fiction set in the 2nd era of Mistborn, and I had the idea to have a scene when he's a kid, playing ball with the other kids. And of course, in my head I'm thinking Baseball, because in a silmilar time period on Earth, that's what they would have been playing. And I'm one of the few people who still like baseball. But it occured to me that they wouldn't be playing baseball...because...well...it's not earth, lol. So that got me thinking of Allomantic/Feruchemic sports. Spoiler I remember some mention of it in TLM, cause Wayne wanted to create a league, but I don't remember the name of the sport or anything about it (I don't think there was anything about it.) So I thought maybe it would be fun to create a sport for Metalborn! Era 2 Mistborn, so Mistings, Ferrings and Twinborn. I'd prefer to use Baseball as a chasis, but am open to other types. Football might be a good base for this. I'd imagine that there would be different positions, and different abilities could help with accomplishing the goal. it should have room for Tanks, like Pewterarms and Pewter or Iron Ferrings, as well as options for Coinshots and Lurchers. Soothers and Rioters should be allowed, to amp up allies and demorolize the enemy. Strategic Emotional Manipulation. Copper Clouds would be useful, in that they couldn't be manipulated. Copper Cloud First Base Coach, lol. I want to bring it up to the hive mind before diving too deep into it, see what y'all think. The game should be playable by those who don't have abilities, but those who do would provide an edge. The Professional League would have mostly Metalborn of one kind or another, with a few normal people who are exceptional in their own way, while kids on the streets would mostly be normal people with the occasional metalborn. And of course, later, when Medallions begin to become a thing, Normal people would have a chance to play as well, breaking the monopoly of Metalborn on the sporting arena. Anyway, what do y'all think? What kind of ball game could be made with Metalborn? Edited February 28, 2023 by Tglassy
Stick The Savant Posted February 28, 2023 Posted February 28, 2023 I feel like a capture the flag type game would work well for metal born. Each team could have a different colored ball they have to defend wich would likely be best suited for thugs and brutes. The balls could have a small metal ball inside to allow coinshots and lurches to affect them (of course they would be protected by an aluminum basket or something so the other team actually has to steal it). I could see teams using tineyes and f-tin users to try to listen in on the other teams strategies (I think this would lead to creative ways for teams to talk tactics during a game). Pulsers could try to catch key players on the opposing team in a bubble and sliders might try to use a speed Buble to gain a boost. Microburst and leeches would definitely lead to interesting strategies (kinda like a game of tag for leechers) Only metal born which I'm not sure would work is f-steel ferring because the speed seems too op 1

But I don't think it's allomantic sport, it's just a regular sport, kids sometimes play, but we know nothing about it. Also you should delete the Wayne part as that's a spoiler I don't think an allomantic sport would be "legal" in a way of equality. I doubt the government would allow for a sport that favors some powers over others, like pewter would always be op. But some underground boxing or metal arts fights would be more likely to happen. But regular sports, like soccer, it’s hard to say, as how can they give equal chances based on powers? Maybe by having matches with just F/A iron, steel and pewter. Attack would be composed of steelrunners, middle support players would be A/F pewter, defense would be iron/steel allomancy, and a ball would have a little metal core, to allow it to push, and a playing field would have a metal pieces in few places to allow flying, but in a very restricted way. I can see coinshoters pushing skimmers high in the air so they can kick a ball into opposing team goal. That could work, as every player would have a different role based on their powers, only from the physical section, and the match could be engaging on a bigger football field to accommodate for increase in power. But no game that allows players without powers and with powers would be possible to make in a reasonable way. There must be a separation for games with powers or without. Powers just give too big of an advantage. Edit: or a game just for coinshoters and lurchers that are in a metal cage and have to push a ball into a goal. Edited February 28, 2023 by alder24

Just limit how much metal people can bring on their uniforms. In fact, you could even choose different amounts based on which attributes are best. So a Steelrunner couldn’t keep all their metalminds, but a Brute could since they get less benefit. If you wanted, you could also give Feruchemists a short pre game session during tactics to make blank metals into metalminds and what they can use depends on how willing they are to be sick. Probably with a doctor on site, just in case someone stores too much. Also, I love this capture the flag idea! Seems there is use for a lot of different Metallic Arts Edited February 28, 2023 by Mistchemist16 1
