Yeah, it looks good the way it is. Besides, like Chaos said, 10 is a holy number on Roshar, so even though there aren't 17 shards in the logo, having 10 is still a nice, significant number.

That's one of the many unfinished rough edges on the site. I've simply not had the time to do much of anything since the semester started, unfortunately. Thanks for the reminder, though; I'll get to it eventually. :)

You cannot go back to the main site from the blog, that is, the news site.

Extremely rough edge. We are well aware of it. Bear with us!

That's because IP Board only powers forums, not actual websites. Don't worry, we're working on the home page, and it'll be awesome before you know it. ;)

Quick note- The home page is in the old format, instead of the amazing new one.

You have now just guessed what we intend to do with the rest of the site.

I want to do this soon, but it's going to have to wait until next weekend. I've literally spent 5pm Friday to Sunday 7pm getting this to work right. I don't really have much more time to devote to creating the template for the new main page during classes.

But trust me. It will be awesome.

On the front page, the text could handle having a little more room to breath. Right now the smaller articles run up right next to each other, leading to slightly humorous titles.

Zas, you should recache. I think we've fixed that padding problem.

I think the site needs a suggestion box that isn't connected to specific issues. What I mean by this is that there are site concerns, questions, etc., about which members are concerned yet, about which they're limited in their pursuit of knowledge concerning said issues ... perhaps because of perceived restrictions. I think that a chosen individual (by whom I'm in no position to determine), should be appointed for such a role.) Does anyone else have an opinion or a suggestion? (Please note that I'm also willing to fade away; dependent upon the ultimate decision.)

The mobile versions suddenly seems...boxier. Hard to say, really. Smaller content boxes, less beveling. On the other hard, the edges on my phone seem sharper too, so maybe I'm crazy.

Yes, it was just me. Everything was looking small and squared-off to me for a few minutes there. I must have overdone the coffee a little.

I'm brand new to the site, so I have some questions.

What is the member reputation?

What are all the statements at the ends of posts saying "Join the Sticky Sticks" or "Join the Dragonwasp Legion"?

Posted

Do you see the arrow buttons beside posts, including this one? The green one is an upvote, the red one is a downvote. If you click the upvote, my post will gain a green "1" beside it, and my reputation (which you can see on the left, underneath my profile pic and post count) will go up by one. Similarly, the downvote would make my reputation go down by one. In general, you click the upvote when you find the content pleasing or helpful, and the downvote when you don't.

Those are invitations to join guilds. They don't actually matter much; the guilds are just threads where members hang out, joke, and occasionally do some good-natured trash talking of other guilds. It's just a fun little tidbit to the 17th Shard social scene.

Welcome to the forum! I hope you spend plenty of time here and start experiencing these things for yourself. Here's an upvote to start you off. :)

Um. I'm not sure if this is the proper place to ask, but since we're talking site designs here, I figure I might just ask here.

What does the Allomantic/Aonic Symbol besides some threads means?? And why does some have them and some do not? Also, my biggest question, why are some of the thread titles bolded and others are not?

If the answer to this question is something really obvious that should have caught on quickly, then I apologize for being an utter noob.

The symbols beside the thread indicate

  • There is a new post in that thread since the last time you read it (that's also why some thread titles are bolded).
  • The thread has been locked by an admin.
  • You've posted to that thread.

More than one symbol can appear, or none, depending on how many of those things apply to that particular thread.

Pro tip:  You can click on the "new post" symbol to jump straight to the first unread post in the thread.

...but if you try this at the board level (e.g. "Cosmere Theories" or "17th Shard Discussion") it marks everything in that board as read. A useful feature sometimes, but not if you think is going to take you to an unread post. Edited by ccstat

So um. Let me see if I get this right. The Tin Symbol means I've posted in that thread. The Copper means that it's closed. And the Iron means that there's a new post in it. Bolded titles also means the same thing as Iron?

Posted

That's correct. And at the board navigation level the Aon doesn't change, but bold still means something new had been added.

Just a sugestion.

When there is something unread in a subforum don't make the entire forum bolded along with the sub-forum. Just bold the sub-forum.

I think this is a good idea.
