While on the Coppermind today I noticed a line about Hoid that didn't quite sit right with me:

Spoiler

However, after the occupation of Urithiru, when going to challenge Rayse, he realized that a new Vessel had Ascended, and was completely terrified.

How do we know that Hoid knows that

Spoiler

a new Vessel has ascended?

Is there a WoB I missed somewhere?

I'm pretty sure by a new vessel, he meant Taravangian taking the place of Rayse.

I don't have much of an idea on how Hoid would know about there being a new vessel

Questioner

What the heck happened, did Taravangian do to Wit?

Brandon Sanderson

You'll find out more in the next book. He stole a few of his Breaths, and they had memories attached to them.

Does Wit ever get his memories back?

Brandon Sanderson

I will RAFO that. It will be dealt with, though; in the next book, he will notice.

In SA5 there is no mention of it. But in RoW he did realize that Rayse is dead, he wasn't able to use that information before Taravangian wiped his memory of this and remade that conversation. So technically he did realize that, but for a very short time.

He knew Rayse, and he figured out that the person he was talking to was not Rayse. Quite simple really.

Then Taravangian took out the breaths that held Hoid’s memories, and in so doing, lowered Hoid’s heightening, taking away his perfect pitch.  Teravangian’s a jerk.
