"Not to him!"

"He will need to learn that there are things we need to do. They may hurt, but they must be done."

"That is not true. The attacks will stop, if we convince those behind them of the certain death they will bring."

Rayvyn nods. "Some of them may be determined, but this is the safest way. Torture would work better, but it would likely hurt Tacien too much, and it isn't necessary."

I assume we're still all arguing in the main room.

Klave spared Rayvyn a disparaging look. "I would appreciate the support, if it did not come from your foolish love of death."

"How's about," Fadran said, "we don't kill anyone while the kid is there?"

"Of course not!" Rayvyn agrees. "We can get him back here first."

"I do not love death. Death is a constant, a fact, an escape, a gift. But I do not love it."

"Death is no gift. A constant, perhaps. Never a gift."

Rayvyn shakes her head, amused. "You people are so...peculiar. Why are you so fixated on this? If you came to my world, you would understand. If you looked in their eyes, you would understand. Somehow, none of you seem to know fact. The best gifts are the ones you cannot give to yourself. Death is a gift people have sworn not to accept, or are to afraid of. But it is a gift, even to those of you who don't recognize it."

"Perhaps the most glaring differences between cultures is how they view death." Fadran said.

Rayvyn nods. "Yes, I have noticed that. I don't understand it, but there are shocking differences everywhere else I go. Is the portal nearly ready?" She says it all in the same tone, pensive, almost angry.

Klave sighed, moving a gloved hand across the scars covering his face. "I used to think as you do. That death would be better than life."

Rayvyn groans. "You are all so exhausting! I am coming, even if I must find my own way. Death is better than life, and I will not fight with you on this. But I let people make their own choices, and I cannot let Tacien stay there when I can help."

Cufre had remained silent through this, giving up on the argument as he waited in anguish for the portal to be ready.

Marilyn got up. She was too restless after arguing to sit still. She walked over to Cufre. "You said it wouldn't be the best idea to kill them right?"

"No. It would hurt my brother."

"Death sounds pretty boring to me, honestly."

Marilyn sighed. "Welp. I tried." She started to walk off toward her room. Then stopped and turned. "I wish that I could help you get your brother back. But I need to cool off after  arguing or I'll just be an annoying arguing nuisance the entire time. And you should do what you can to get him back as soon as possible."

He did not speak, but he approached her carefully. He seemed to only be six or seven years old.

Ilvaite reached out into the mind of the apparition in front of her.

All she found was a turmoil of juvenile emotion, somehow lacking in any other discernable information. Principal among those emotions was concern, the same reflected in his expression.

He is, but is incapable of communicating in any direct way.

He did not respond, or even nod or shake his head. He simply drew a little closer, and sat down next to her.
