*cracks knuckles*

Vance cracked his knuckles. “Well… out of context they make less sense. Lesson One was - given the choice - to never fight an opponent in their own domain. That could mean pretty much anything, ranging from a snowball fight against the kids in the treehouse to the likes of this witch here and her magical mansion.

”Lesson Two was to always control your energy output for any given situation. You never know how many tricks the enemy might have up their sleeve, so conserving your own power and techniques is critical.

”Lesson Three: Make time to breathe.” Vance sat down. “It’s good for your health.

”Lesson Four is kinda like the theory behind Two. Basically, never let your guard down in someone else’s domain. Quickest and easiest way to get murdered by an arrow trap.

”We’ll skip lesson five. That one’s not important… lesson six was Magical Energy 101, and Lesson Seven is right now.” Vance pointed at Antin. “Detecting magical energy.”

"Alright, then. Hit me. I mean, not literally."

“Excellent idea!” Vance stood up, strode over to Antin, then slapped him in the face.

Twice. One with each hand.

“Pop quiz: which one had magic behind it?”

I guess I'm not supposed to know?

"Ow! I said not literally! Uh, I can't tell. Should I be able to?"

“You will be able to. Soon. Hopefully.” Vance held up his left hand. “This was the magic one. I reallocated some of my excess life force to it to power up the slap; though I pulled it a little to make it harder to notice.”

"Really? That one felt a little weaker to me."

Unless you have any objections, I'm going to say that Antin's magic dampened the punch.

Miyako gave up control of the stream and left it to the Queen's will. Miyako dashed over to Hyron and grabbed his waterskin. Ripping it open, she sent out a second stream, towards Geff's head.

Geff ducked to the ground as the room filled with mist, obscuring visibility.

"They're in the walls!" came the voice of the princess. "I'll catch them for you, Mother."

Miyako stalked away from the crack and down the hallway, stabbing the floor with every step. A loud sigh that quickly morphed into a groan, slipped from her mouth.

Miyako clapped, pulling herself together. "Ok, ok. Viney, Acolyte. You can get out of here. You shouldn't have to pay for me being stupid." Miyako stopped and slowly drew her sword. "I can hold 'em off, maybe kill a few. But that's half the fun, right?" Miyako gave a sorry smile that was ruined when tears welled in her eyes. Miyako angerly pushed the tears away. "Tides. Just...just go. You deserve it more then I do."

Maybe we should wait for Corvus at this point. Quite a lot has happened and I would imagine Hyron would have many feelings.

"A room is fine," Kealie agreed cheerily. "Let's do that one, right up there, on the left with the golden trim."

"Yes, a fine choice of rooms. Would you, umm, be willing to go first?" Quest asked hesitantly. Nervous from the pause he rushed on: "My magic is better at healing others and your magic is probably better for...for, well everything."

It would indeed have been dampened, but by no noticeable amount. I’ll just carry on.

“Let’s start small. You say you absorb energy, right? What does that feel like?”

"It feels like a... subtle vibration in my chest. I barely notice it anymore."

“Not everything,” she corrected. “But a lot of things, I guess.” She sighed as she tied on the blindfold. “I wish I had dark glasses or something.”

Eej silently noted this to himself and led her into the room.

You wanna control what’s in the room?

You can control the room. If you want me to control the room, I'd do so, but I'm fine letting you be in charge.

Awesome.

Quest peeked past Kealie to look into the room. The room was dimly lit and sparse. Rich wallpaper and fine carpet covered the room and it was entirely devoid of runes. The only object in the room was a large shelf that covered the wall opposite the door. Lined on the shelves were dolls.

They wore all manner of clothes and hair, but the same smile was painted on each. Quest thought he heard the faintest sounds brush past his mind, quiet giggling that tapered off as the door opened. Quest shivered.

“Just do it. Try to emulate the sensation.”

"Alright..." Antin did his very best, imagining the strange frequency pulsating through his arms, legs and head.

So, what should happen?

"Try focusing on your breathing or something first. When I was learning I did a lot of that to try to become a lot more mindful of my senses."

Antin closed his eyes and tried to focus on his breathing. "Uh, what now?"
