"I built it over time. I'm not going to live in the woods like some savage." the witch said.

Quest began worry profusely, looking over to Kealie and Antin for a plan.

Kealie looked back at him hopelessly. What now? “Vance? This is not a good idea,” she quivered.

"Umm, Kealie? What should we do? Vance is about to be sacrificed." Quest began to pace, nervously fiddling with his staff.

Kealie started to hyperventilate. “I don’t know. IdontknowandidontwanttoloseamemberpfaquestohthisisAWFULWHATSHOULDIDO!”

She promptly fainted.

Eej crawled over to Quest, then drew himself up, ready to help make a plan.

The one rational part of Quest's brain noted that this girl seemed to faint quite a lot. Other than that it was just panic and worry. He breathed deeply trying to calm himself, and looked down the vines that seemed to be trying to get his attention.
"Hello vines? Can you.. communicate with me?" Quest asked, tilting his head.

He looked over to Antin for help, they needed to do something fast and he seemed to be Quest's biggest ally, odd as he was.

Eej flapped around vehemently, frustrated. His thought process was not words, but I will translate them anyway.

It’s not fair Kealie’s the one who gets to talk. So not fair. Oh well, I should probably go kidnap that guy before he gets dead.

Eej slithered across the ground, going very small—a single vine—and coiling around Vance’s boot surreptitiously.

“Hey, that’s not fair to the people who aren’t savages who live in the woods.”

She shrugged. "Stereotypes. Well, on with the sacrifice then?"

Eej expanded rather suddenly, growing many more vines and becoming very very large. Cocooning Vance inside of his many vines, he slipped back toward Quest at top speed.

The witch flicked her hand and the runes on the door flashed red. The doors slammed shut with Eej and Vance trapped inside.
She beckoned for Vance to follow her, "This way please, lets not have this take all night."

Eej refused to let Vance go and hurried up the stairs (I assume there are stairs).

The lantern in the witch's hand suddenly burned bright crimson as the book in her other hand flipped open. The pages were covered with arcane script and circles, that were all glowing. She landed on a page and looked down, muttering something. One of the arcane circles at the top of the stairs also flared red. It became a red pane of light rather than a wooden wall and a large clawed hand reached out to grab at Eej and Vance.

The witch sighed, "You can't run away from me in my own domain. Be a dear and come down."

Eej shrank very tiny and slithered away.

Ok cool.

The rest of the monstrosity crawled out of the portal and began to walk after Eej. It's head was scraping the roof, it was covered in dark green scales and had four arms with eyes in the palms.

Eej was out of sight, worrying about whether the thing could sense him. Whatever it was. He shrank down to barely the seed of a seed and dropped through the floorboards.

The monstrosity looked around for a second before lumbering back into the portal.

Quest stood over Kealie and tried to force green light into her. Hopefully that would wake her up.

Kealie groaned. “Oof. Oh great, did I do it again? Wait, where’s Eej?”

"Oh umm your plant thing? They went into the witch's house with Vance."

“Okay. I’m sure he’s fine. So… what do we do now? How can we save him? Both of them, that is.”

"Get inside the house? It looks pretty well protected though, the rune circles seem to provide defense and summoning points."

“Let’s just go through the door.” Kealie stepped up to the door and tried the knob.

In the meantime, Eej grew into a thin vine the length of a finger and slithered toward the wall of the house, still under the floorboards.

The door didn't open, thought the runes on the door flared red.

"Hmmm, we would have to disable or overpower the magic somehow."
