I didn't read most of the second book but as far as I can tell, Zane is just, there, I don't really get his value.

Ruin should've ranted about how much the Final Empire pissed it off in the convo with Vin in HOA.  In general I think a bit more of the duality of Preservation and Ruin as Lawful Neutral and Chaotic Neutral respectively would've been good to have. 

The Well of Ascension worked well enough for me. I loved the politics and Elend's character development. But I thought it should've included a lot more of the Terris, connected more to Ruin and Preservation's machinations, and explained more of Scadrial's lost history. 

I love your opinion about Ruin! I agree with you. And I've been wondering how to write him in my AU, so you gave me a great idea! Same for Preservation.

I feel the same way; he's certainly not perfect, but I don't really feel that he's a super villain waiting to blossom.

Me too. It makes sense to me and it adds more depth to worldbuilding.

To me it felt a bit like comparing apples to oranges; they just aren't built the same and can't be compared as such. The original Mistborn gave us a unique setting and magic and with the Mistborn themselves it laid the foundation for all Allomantic understanding (much easier to know about Allomancy from one character that can use all of it than 8-12 separate people who can use only part of it). Plus I liked the characters and whatnot.

Era 2 felt more refined, and I personally liked the worldbuilding (which could only have been done after a beginning story set the foundation), characters, and minor changes to the magic (such as Twinborn and no more Mistborn or Full Feruchemists) even more than the first trilogy.

I personally prefer the second era though. I'm super excited to read era three!

Yeah, I like that the characters are more vulnerable in the original setting. Death is a very real thing there and it helps keep the story interesting.

SA is good, but there isn't a whole lot of the same excitement because most every main character can regenerate from basically anything the villains can throw their way. Also, it's kind of annoying how every character must become a Radiant; I liked that Navani and Rlain were able to be useful despite not having one of the very, very rare magical Spren (compared to the number of people alive that the Spren could choose that is) on their side- this is something we get to see in Mistborn more though, which makes me happy.

I actually liked it too, mostly because it lent a different point of view from most other characters. He wasn't by any means my favorite character, but I'd rather have variety than stagnation.

I do feel a little weirded out that there was absolutely no hint about his existence in book one though, and it felt like that he had to be retconned into the story to make it work.

Personally, I really liked that Elend became a more viewpoint character, as it lent a new perspective and more variety.

I also don't personally feel that Vin was all that gipped from her relationship with him either; she's already taking Ruin head on- a friend and partner help her out in ways that she doesn't excel or even like (such as leadership) felt like it made them a great power couple- that's honestly how I feel we should all work; we need to find someone who we can learn from and work together with even when the times are tough, because we won't ever be 100% competent in every area and we will have times that we are weak and need someone dependable to rely on.

That's what I personally got from the Vin and Elend relationship, in any case.

Eh, I didn't have a problem with his dialect for the most part, but that's just me.

I actually didn't really like Spook's sections in HoA the first time I read it either (I wanted to be reading about Mistborn, not Mistings). As I read the Wax and Wayne series though I came to love the more limited powers and upon my reread of HoA I also came to love Spook's sections as much if not more than the others.

Vin was OP. I prefer the way Era 2 does it where the main character(s) don't have a whole slew of powers. Maybe that's not actually unpopular, I don't know.

She's still a well-written character though, as far as character arc.
