Alright, fixed it so she's comforting Calano. But she may try to disrupt the connection is Calano helps her. That good?

Clinic: Calano's Room

Calano didn't even register the thump outside his room.

"You didn't let me help," He muttered, barely noticing Telrao until she licked his face and he looked down at her.

"She wouldn't let me help," He said to her, "I tried, I swear I tried, I don't know what she's saying."

Bookwyrm's Mind

A dim ray of light pierced through the darkness, reaching Bookwyrm to weakly wrap around his arm. Bookwyrm? Lark's voice sounded concerned, and a sense of strain echoed through the weak connection. How did this darkness get into you? I've never seen anything quite like it.

Bookwyrm's Mind

Bookwyrm grabbed onto the lifeline, and let the light give him some stability.

I think they're remnants from when I tried to save Insa, he said. But something about these flowers...activated them. And I'm only going to be able to function again if I clear them away, at least temporarily.

"Well, it wasn't enough, was it?" Her voice was now sad and cold. "So that's it, then? That's all for us?"

Bookwyrm’s Mind

I see. The tendril strengthened slightly, sending out small tendrils to disrupt the darkness around Bookwyrm. I can’t do much, I’m afraid. Perhaps I could do more back at the clinic, but all I can do here is give you a bit of strength. A pulse ran through the tendril, filling Bookwyrm with light and warmth.

A young man appeared out of nowhere a foot or so in the air with a rather large pop and fell to the ground.

"Ow," he said. Or tried to say. For some reason his voice didn't seem to be working right.

@CalanoCorvus

The young man stood up, blinking his eyes. He tried to call out, "Hello" - but just like before, his voice made no sound. It was as if someone had pressed the mute button on him. He closed his eyes and rubbed his head, trying to remember how he'd gotten here. His heart twisted slightly as he remembered his family with black tears on their face, staring blankly at him. But that had been a dream, right? Surely it had to be a dream.

He opened his eyes again and looked around, trying to place where he was. He was in... a hallway of some sort? The fluorescent lights and white walls gave the impression of a hospital corridor. Had he fallen into a coma, perhaps, and was only now waking up? But then why was he lying on the floor in the hallway?

He glanced up at the fluorescent lights and abruptly sneezed. To his surprise, it came out normally. "Hello?" he tried experimentally and found that whatever power had silenced him before had ceased to do so. "Anyone there?"

A receptionist holding a tablet appeared at the edge of the man’s vision, disgruntled look on his face. “Excuse me sir, but wouldn’t the front entrance have been a better place to, you know, enter?” He sighed, examining the young man for any injuries. “Patient or visitor?”

....Is it weird that I've been imagining the clinic as made of nicely carved dark wood this entire time? Like, more homey. More of a mansion than a hospital.

I've been imagining it as a combo of both. Sort of a hospital, but more cozy. Less stark and cold, but still hospital-esque, but a very homey vibe to it.

Clinic: Calano's Room

"You were worth everything to me," Calano muttered, closing his eyes, "More than you could have ever known. I never meant... I... I.."

Calano opened his eyes, a realization occuring to him.

"I can still help," He whispered, "I can still try to save you. And if that doesn't work, then I can still try and defeat Kaos."

Calano searched mentally for the thread of Connection between him and Malum.

He Commanded it to Break. "Get out," He spat, "Get out of my head, and never return. You are not my god. I want no part of interacting with you."

Emma's voice was frantic and afraid. "No! Calano, it's---"

The connection cut off, leaving silence and a splitting headache.

“Have you experienced an addiction to or obsession with this author’s works? Any negative symptoms due to over reading?”

Clinic: Calano's Room

Calano closed his eyes, the last of echoes of Emma's voice fading, leaving behind emptiness.

And a headache. He groaned, standing. Telrao fell to the floor but landed on her feet.

He stumbled to the door, a hand to his forehead. He walked out into the hall, finding a young man with one of the Clinic receptionists.

Clinic: Hallway

"You," He said at the receptionist, "Find me some painkillers. Tylenol, or something. Something to make this headache ease."

That wouldn't work. The headache isn't physical, just a result of Malum's intrusion.

The young man blinked as the door next to him opened and a man walked out. Whoever he was, he seemed to be in charge.
