Velen bared their teeth, muttering a prayer to Eke under their breath. Letting go of Khusa's shirt (but keeping the knife held to his throat), they slung their satchel around their neck and rummaged through it, pulling out an old, weathered-looking scroll. "This," they said, "is an Alchemical contract. If you sign this, you will be forbidden to speak of anyone or anything pertaining to this..." they paused for a second, considering. "Incident."

“‘Forbidden,’ huh?” Khusa tapped his chin, nonchalantly pushing the knife away with a finger. “Would it be forbidden to say that I ran into someone while taking a stroll and we haven’t said a word to each other since? Perhaps you’re talking about the murder. Well, would it be forbidden for me to say that he died, but I don’t know how? I walked in right as the supposed murderer escaped? I mean, what would they want with that old person anyways that would have need for my attention, unless they just so happened to have a contract for me to sign without having read all the fine details first, because just like my mother always said: Never sign contracts without putting on your glasses.”

Khusa folded his arms, smirking nonetheless. “Now, why would someone like you want someone like me, a person who basically runs the underground, to sign something without putting in too much thought?” He tilted his head. “You’re pulling out this contract like it’s supposed to mean something to me.”

"Sign it, or I slit your throat." Velen handed him the contract.

“Were you not listening when I said what would happen if you did that?” Khusa rolled his eyes. “Look, I’ve dealt with worser annoyances than you, and I don’t think I’m asking for much when I want to see your oh, so important contract. Honestly. Grow a pair of ears. It’s like you haven’t been paying attention. What part of ‘I’m a part of the underground and will most likely not care to tell the law enforcement who did it’ do you not understand?”

Velen didn't reply, instead pressing the knife slightly against Khusa's throat. It drew a tiny pinprick of blood.

@Sequence Yeah, that would work!

“Oh no,” he said, his voice dripping with sarcasm. “Whatever will I do?”

Khusa rubbed the bridge of his nose, muttering something incomprehensible. He brushed the knife away again as if it were just annoying him. “Just let me read your precious contract, maybe sign the stupid thing, and no one gets hurt,” he said, looking exasperated. “Maybe I could pay for an ear appointment for you, that way you can actually hear what I’m saying rather than resorting to knives and a piece of paper. By the way, do you honestly think that I could keep that oath? I mean, I would, I know that, but do you really think by shoving a piece of paper in people’s faces for them to sign will get them to shut up? Do you follow them? What if they start screaming for help? You’re pretty screwed when they start screaming.”

He shrugged. “I’m just saying that if you were under me, this whole ‘cutting off loose ends’ would go a whole lot easier than literally shoving a piece of paper in someone’s face without a writing utensil to even sign their darn name on.”

Nice, any sort of guideline you need me to follow in the creation of this being?

Just use the template, and it'll be good.

Velen took a deep breath, sighed, unsheathed their right knife, and made a long, shallow cut along Khusa's right arm.

"Use that to sign it. You haven't heard of Alchemical contracts, have you? When you sign this contract, you will not be able to talk about me, or anything related to the truth of the hour and a half before or after you sign this."

Khusa looked down at the new cut, making tsk sounds. “Haro is not going to be happy when she sees that,” he muttered to himself.

He turned his gaze back up at the stranger. “‘When’? I think you mean ‘if.’ Just give me the contract so I can read it,” he said slowly. “It’s not going to hurt you to let me read a piece of paper before I sign away my soul. You’d be surprised of how many little details get overlooked when signing a contract, just think of all the times you’ve said ‘I agree’ to the terms and conditions without actually looking at them. And if I were to sign it, I would rather do it in my office where it can get notarized by Haro. And I can assure you that my office is safe for assassins like you from the prying eyes of the law enforcement. I’m not even going to mention the fact of how I don’t know if this is legitimately a contract, but that’s another topic for another day.”

Well, guys and gals and our non-binary pals, we’re just about at that post number.

Velen handed him the contract. "Rip it up, throw it away, and I kill you. And I'll be sure to make you and your bloated ego suffer."

Edit: Honestly, I'm scared about Fadran's post. He's been writing it for forty minutes now

Also, I'd be honored if you wanted to spend your thousandth post here, but it's alright if you do it somewhere else. Maybe you'll finally sign the contract? Velen would've killed you by now if not for plot armor.

Name: The Epicenter is what it calls itself.

Pronouns: They/It

Age: It’s memories don’t go far enough back for a true age, but it has been here since the creation of the planet.

Nationality: Creature…?

Profession: It protects the planet, keeping it safe through manipulating the minds of humans, making sure they do not harm the planet in any everlasting way. On a less important note, it manipulates trade routes surrounding Eltier through subtle mind manipulation, sometimes diverting resources to more profitable areas, and sometimes taking resources for itself.

Appearance: Appears as a large clump of glowing red flesh, spreading through the cave system with tentacle-like limbs, with it’s main biomass in the center of the island somewhere. Able to send bits of itself into other areas in the form of organic creatures.

Personality: Calm and calculating, mostly wanting the best for the planet. Kind, wise, empathetic, and caring.

Other stuff: It speaks to creatures through their minds, able to place subtle thoughts and full sentences into the brains of organic life forms. The closer one is to the Epicenter, the stronger the mental connection to it is. All life forms on this planet are connected to this creature, as it was placed here as the protector of the planet. It is able to feel any pain the life forms of the planet feel.

(Is this allowed? If you need me to change some things, I’d be happy to.)

“Trust me,” Khusa said, unrolling the contract carefully, “I know better than anyone than to ruin someone’s contract, especially if they want me to sign it.”

He read over the words and finer details, which read… idk what exactly it says.

That looks good :)

Also I really don’t feel like writing what’s in the contract right now, and I want to wait for Tip’s situation to be resolved before Khusa and Velen do anything else (just in case it impacts us)

Welcome

Also, update: TUA is sick, so let’s just leave Tip in the manor for now

Velen’s ears picked up the sound of shouting behind them.

Stars!

They didn’t have time to deal with Khusa’s haughty prattling right now - they had to go, and quickly. They couldn’t kill Khusa - as much as they wanted to, that would destroy all the connections they’d made in the Arcallan underground, and that wasn’t worth a quick escape (not to mention the sight of all that awful smugness leaving his eyes for good). They could knock him out, but he was too heavy for them to carry, and leaving him for the guards would equate to killing him in the eyes of the underground.

There was only one option, and Velen didn’t like it in the slightest.

“Guards coming. Let’s move.” They removed the knife from his throat, sheathing it, and snatched away the contract.

Edit: Added both of you to the PM.

The Epicenter watched. It always watched. It wondered. It listened. It felt a slight disturbance on the southern edge of Arcalla. It could tell that this could escalate. It predicted over 7,000 lives could be lost, if it went badly. The Epicenter sent thoughts into the minds of those involved. “I wish to do no harm. I wish to do no harm. I wish to do no harm.” And, as always, problem solved. The Epicenter moved on to the next problem.

“And whose fault was that?” Khusa pushed past them, his smugness gone. He gestured for them to follow. “You’ll be safe from the police if you follow me back to my office. If you don’t want to get caught, I suggest you follow me. You have no reason to trust me, but unless you want to know what life’s like in prison, probably your only option is to follow me, considering you left them a trail.”
