  1. So, based on the glimpse we've had of pattern speaking and this audio clip, does it seem like Pattern is just learning how to speak/communicate with words with Shallan? If this is the case, I wonder why it seems like a learning process. I don't remember the same process happening with Syl and Kaladin? Also.... WOW I was not expecting that!!! At least, not so early in the book. However, I guess we should have expected it sooner rather than later since most of our beloved characters survived book 1!
  2. So, I understand that this is potentially really far off... but if you guys need any help planning or need a sounding board for ideas, I'd love to help!
  3. Hello Fellow Sharders!!! I was just wondering who all is planning on going to JordanCon 2012 next month? Maybe we can have a meet up of sorts? Let me know what you think. P.S. I'm sad Brandon can't go, but looking at the schedule, it looks like a lot of fun! They even have their first (and possibly only) Spear Fighting Tournament!!
  4. Ooo interesting! Kind of reminds me about the irony of the Wheel of Time prophecy of the Stone of Tear falling when the Dragon wields the Sword that is not a Sword, except no one was allowed in but the High Lords of Tear.
  5. I'm glad I found this thread! I've been wondering about what would happen if a woman on Roshar was left-handed. I can definitely picture parents trying to force their daughters to become right handed since things like the the left hand being the safehand and only women being able to read seem so strict. So here's another question... What happens when a woman suffers a great injury to her right hand and can no longer use it very well (if at all) for everyday life? Do you think society would make an exception for her to use her left hand for everything or would it be frowned upon even though there is nothing that can be done? Or.. can the people on Roshar make some sort of fabrial prosthetic hand?!
  6. Hilarious post!!! Not to mention awesome prizes!!! Side thought... I wish one of the prizes was a coppermind to help me study for my final exams!
  7. I love the idea of T-shirts!! My friends make fun of me at work because I have so many fan type t-shirts Preferably, with the total cost (including shipping) staying below $25. The "Ask me about Hoid" idea sounds awesome, along with the 17th shard logo... Would it be a huge hassle to get a license from Brandon to do logos? I mean, this is the official forum/fan site right? Maybe it is something you guys could work on? Plushies sound like fun too, $20 actually seems a little high to me, but I don't know how much they would cost to make. I also like the idea of being able to donate - especially if you can donate in small increments like just $5. I dislike the idea of ads, but I understand that they are often necessary to help with funds. I agree with everyone requesting that they are localized to the side or bottom to make them easier to ignore!
  8. This is SOO awesome!!! I am definitely interested :-) The runner-up prize is fantastic, and the grand prize winner will be so lucky! Please pick me
  9. Hi! One of my coworkers sent me an invite to G+ and I haven't really used it all that much, but when I saw this topic I figured I'd add some of you guys to a 17th shard group! My name is Krystal Kerney
  10. I LOVE think geek! That, and w00t shirts! I showed one of my coworkers the think geek website a couple of months ago and she said she was so impressed, she wanted to buy all of her christmas presents for people from that website!
  11. I love this!!! We like to find funny comics by them to post in our cubicles :-)
  12. You guys are awesome! Widespread blackouts = no good... learning about the symbiotic relationship between squid and the bacteria they carry that have bioluminescence capabilities and how microgravity affects that relationship, then using all of this as a model for how microgravity might affect human-bacteria symbiotic relationships = good... erm, or is that getting to technical?
  13. Yes I do! In fact, one of the labs I worked in earlier this year sent up experiments with the last two space shuttle launches called "squids in space" it was awesome! And thank you very much!
  14. Hello Everyone, Let's see... I always have a hard time figuring out what to write in these kinds of threads... Just like I spent at least half an hour trying to decide what my username should be before I actually registered to be a member here! Anyway, I decided upon the name WindSpren and, well, here I am! I first started reading Brandon's books after my research mentor at the University of Florida (Go Gators!!) gave me the Mistborn Trilogy for my birthday. He happened to have two sets of the books, and figured I would enjoy them since I love to read! He also suggested the Wheel of Time series to me, but at the time I was about to start my senior year of college and didn't want to get into a huge series. Alas, I loved the Mistborn series, and after which I read Elantris and Warbreaker. Unfortunately, I read them all so fast that I was only a few months into my senior year so I proceeded to start the WoT series anyway. Point being, I loved all of Brandon's books! I just (actually just a few minutes ago!) finished Way of Kings for the second time. The first time, I read the hard cover, and I just finished listening to it on audiobook. It is amazing how despite reading/listening to the book twice already, I still feel like I could read it several times more and continue to pick up on new things that I didn't notice before. I can't wait until he is able to continue work on the Stormlight Archive!! I have also preordered the Alloy of Law, and am looking forward to that coming out too! Of course I feel obligated that I am also not-so-patiently waiting for A Memory of Light to come out as well... I am excited about posting some of my questions and theories on this forum, however it might take me a little while to go through what you guys have already posted. I don't want to sound like a broken record asking about things that have already been gone through in detail! What else.. hmm.. I have my Bachelor's degree in Microbiology and am working at the Kennedy Space Center in a research lab. I am/will be taking night classes for the next chunk of time in preparation for applying to grad school for Biomedical Engineering. I enjoy photography, dancing, singing, watching movies and silly scifi shows, but most of all, I love reading! Thanks! And I hope to join into some interesting conversations soon! WindSpren
