Hi everyone,
I'm new to the board and I hope I do not start an unnecessary topic but I could not find something about this with a quick search and I didn't find a thread for such small questions. So here we go:

What happened after Gavilar's death to his Shardblade and his Shardarmor. From the first book it seems obvious, that Dalinar was a famous Shardbearer before Gavilar's death (while they fought for unifying Alethkar etc), so he had his own blade and armor, and Elhokar got his blade and armor from Dalinar, who won it while fighting the Parshendi - and Adolin got his from the family of his mother.
I think it would have been obvious that Elhokar would have gotten the Shardblade and Shardarmor of his father, and if not him then Dalinar as the most notable general and warrior (or his brother), but this seems not to be the case.
And we also know that Szeth did not take them - and it seems unlikely, that the Parshendi took them (or even had the oppurtunity to take them) - I guess they where already leaving while Gavilar died.

So what happend to his Shardblade and his Shardarmor.

Because this question is just a small one (maybe there's something more behind it, maybe not), I also wanted to ask if here is a thread for such small questions like on other boards, or if you maybe could open such a thread, so that not every question needs a new thread - there are a few questions floating through my mind, but this one was the most precise one.

Its intriguing. However, as many threads have already speculated that Gavilar was the Parshendi Shardbearer that Dalinar meets (and who Dalinar is recognized by) because when Gavilar died, he became Parshendi (you might want to look that up if its confusing), then this seems the most likely place it went (with his body).

However it is very much open for debate.

Thanks for the answer - as I said I did not find something about it with a quick search - and I'll look for this theory here (sounds interesting, nothing I would've ever guessed so far) and maybe answer later if I can contribute something.
I thought that the Parshendi Shardbearer who recognized Dalinar was one of the first expediton Dalinar met, or one of the "leaders" who made the contract with Gavilar (if they were different persons).

Here, to make this search of yours a little easy, I perused a number of recent threads and this one seemed to fit the gist of what I mentioned, however unsure if there is a better one. If this doesn't cut it, you might want to search a bit deeper than I.

Elhokar got his blade and armor from Dalinar, who won it while fighting the Parshendi

Could you give me a citation on this? I though Elokahar did get Gavilar's armor and Blade, especially since the Blade is named.

Thanks very much. Was looking on the first "most baseless parshendi theory" while you posted this. Looks both interinsting. Have to leave now, but be'll back on the morrow. I really love discussing such theories, especially in the beginning of such a series with so few information (I didn't read something else of Brandon's Cosmere works until now).

I thought the same as readerat2046. I am pretty sure that elhokar has gavilar's which is the property of alethkar. Dalinar's belongs to the kholins. Adolin's is his mother's family.

I can't give you the exactly quote (as I read the book as german translation), but it is in one of the earlier Dalinar chapters after the hunt. I think it was when Dalinar told Renarin, that he would give him a Shardblade and a Shardarmor if he would win them (in opposite to the oppionion that they should be given to the most skillfull warriors), because all other Highprinces kept the ones they won, while he gave an armor and a blade, he won, to Elhokar (because he thought it would be most usefull to keep the king secure) - so no one could blame him for giving others to Renarin.

I'm pretty sure that quote says he gave it to Elokahar to give to somebody else whom Elokhar thought needed it. In other words, Elokhar got the Shards, but not to use for himself.

I'm not sure that just because Elokhar's Blade is named, that it is Gavilar's. It would make more sense that Elokhar named it himself, if it is a new Blade. I believe however that Dalinar's came with the Blade, because it was a Kholin heirloom.

Dalinar has won two sets of Shardplate and Blade on plateau-runs. The first he gave to Elhokar, the second, IIRC was Adolin.

I'm pretty sure about the first one, because when I reread that part, I wondered about where Gavilar's stuff went.

Thanks for the catch. Well, that rounds that off. But as for Gavilar's Plate and Blade, I think it should be continued here. Or at least, if your curious, you should give Chicken's first post a scan.

Well, I really had to leave, but when there was the thing about the quote, I could'nd stay from finding it:
It in the chapter called "Highprince of war" (or something sounding similar, it's my translation from german to english) and it's in part two of the book ("the luminous storms" or something like this). The quote appears short before Dalinar tells Renarin that he would give a Shardblade and Shardarmor to him. It's (translation^^):
"Dalinar had hard-earned a Shardblade and a Parshendi armor while the first year. He had given both to Elhokar, because he had thought it was very useful for Alethkar and the war."

Edit:
Well, you could say, Elhokar could have given them to one of his bodyguards or warriors, but we know that both are Kholin men - which means that they are Dalinar's men, as Elhokar has no own land and no own army, and his guard is made of Dalinar's men - so it would be more obvious, that Dalinar gave both to one of his on men (guards), to protect the king, if it wasn't for the king himself.
(Well, maybe contraditing my thoughts could be the fact, that Dalinar later told Renarin, that he could give him the Shardblade and the Shardarmor, while no other Highprince gave them to the king - this thought is ambigious to my previous thought/quote, I have to admit).

The line in English is "He’d given both to Elhokar to award to a warrior he felt would be the most useful to Alethkar and the war effort." He gave them to Elhokar; Elhokar gave them to someone else.

Peter, can you then confirm that Elokhar's Plate and Blade are/n't Gavilar's?

Thanks Peter! And that's what I call a bad translation... there was nothing in about a warrior... - disappointing... - so if my vocabulary wasn't that bad i'd really think about reading english books in the original language... it would be much cheaper and well, more satisfying...
Anyway

Hope for an answer on Odium's_Shard's question ;).

What is the exact line in German? This is the second report recently of the German translation not being good, so if you give it to me I can report this to Brandon's agent.

The line is:
"Er hatte beides Elhokar überlassen, denn das hatte er als äußerst sinnvoll für Alethkar und den Krieg betrachtet."
