Here's this year's bracket:

http://sf-fantasy.su...t-revealed.html

As you can see, both Moiraine and Kelsier are in the Starfleet Academy: Holodeck bracket. I think it's only appropriate that they're seeded numbers one and two. I can't wait to see Moiraine kick Tarzan's loincloth clad booty!

What fights are you looking forward to?

Wow, it's all ready cage match time again, huh? Seems like the 2011 one practically just ended.

I'm interested to see how Zaphod Beeblebrox does. i would actually love to see him win (douglas adams = my favorite author, no matter how much i love brandon's work)

While I'd love to see Kelsier win, I'm pulling for Moiraine and Kylar Stern.

Let's see...

I'm interested in Bast vs. Seregil (Miskatonic University), though Bast will probably win. And also in Kelsier vs. Gale (Starfleet Academy), of course (I'm betting Kelsier wins this).

Moiraine NEEDS to win against Tarzan, so she can stop Tyrion before he goes too far. Seriously. Somebody stop that short fella'.

Hoping for an eventual Kelsier/Moiraine matchup here.

To be fair (and i believe i brought this up at last years' when i think rand/vin matchups were mentioned), based on the power set, the one power is far more powerful than a mistborn's powers. It would realistically be a non-contest. That's because the one power is pretty much infinite in what it can do, where as allomancy is limited to its particular tricks, and follows a strict set of rules. The one power is basically as instant as thought to anyone channeling it, and has no real way for a non-channeler to stop/combat them.

Even with Atium, they still wouldn't really hold an edge against the one power. Sure, they could dodge anything thrown at them and all that, but there's no possible way for someone to "dodge" the air solidifying around them, or having their head exploded because that so fit the enemy's whim.

(though, of course we all know that cage matches are really more just popularity contests than anything else)

But it does give us fantasy nerds a chance to pretend the skill of each character matters. ;P

Spoiler alert

(for the record, I've already kicked Brent Weeks for forgetting shin guards in Kylar's first fight)

I'm thinking Harry Potter versus Moraine would be good. They both have relatively open-ended magics, so the main thing is whether one can block the other. That'll decide things.

The first round of fights have been posted and voting is open. Since they've listed ALL of the first round fights you have to scroll through a few pages to find all of your favs. Here are the two most pertinent links:

To vote for Moiraine:

True.

Though I am still wondering how, in Seregil vs Bast's fight, it can say in the chart Seregil is distracted by the "ladies" if he is gay 0_o (link).

I will vote for Kelsier and Moraine, but I really want Everis Cale to win. He is one of my all time favorite characters.

Did anyone else LOL when they saw the image of Vin for Kelsier and at the bottom it says,"image of Kelsier courtesy of Tor books." Yet it's not an image of him at all!

What do we do when Morraine fights Kelsier in the Quarterfinals?

(Also, we may have to work hard for votes in order to beat Tyrion, even though Kelsier would beat him up and down the field.)

We vote for both of them and let those who are slightly less conflicted cast the deciding votes.

Kelsier and Moraine pass the first round by landslides! (not that either one had particularly challenging matchups.)

Wow.. round two is fairly amusing. I bet it is kind of hard to write an Allomantic battle if you haven't read the book, but still, I was laughing straight through it.
The comments section gets a little cat-fighty, though.

and Moraine is here:
http://sf-fantasy.su...-dagda-mor.html

with a nice Mistborn reference :P

Ah, Cage Matches... is it that time of year again already? And by "that time of year", I of course mean that time of year in which I threaten all of you to make sure Richard Rahl doesn't win by holding the site's design scheme hostage.

Of course, it's likely going to be Rahl vs Anomander Rake; Sword of Truth vs Malazan. And I doubt the two will kill each other, as much as I would like for that to happen. And Saphira will likely win here match, which (I hope) will put her against Beeblebrox...

Honestly, this year it feels like their scraping the barrel for combatants. I don't even know half the entries...

This propaganda has been brought to you by High Priest and Occasional Pope Archbishop Shivertongue Von Slamdance VI, of the Vibrating Purple cabal of POEE (Paratheoanametamystikhood Of Eris Esoteric).

Remember, we ARE professionals. Honest.
