What if we are looking at the healing from progression all wrong. It's not actually "healing" but instead it's a form of isolated time displacement. So when lift uses Growth on the seeds she doesn't actually make them grow but instead alters time in such a way that it appears like they grow. The same can be done with the Regrowth she performs. It works on the recently deceased because it isn't actually healing the body but instead shifting it back into a time where they were alive. I assume this doesn't work on the spiritual aspect so it cannot heal someone that has been dead for awhile. I also like EMTevors ideas. Since Illumination is about how one perceives their surroundings it's possible that they don't actually slow down time but instead slow down the persons perception of time. Relis appears to be hesitated but instead what's happening is it's taking his body longer to perform the actions because of this altered perception. My wave physics is pretty bad on the macro level so not really sure if this line of thinking is correct so hopefully somone more knowledable can clarify. If the truthwatcher was able to slow down all the light Relis's eyes were receiving would he experience a slow time of time and if he would would his body then slow down as well since it's receiving information at a slower rate? edit: Seem it would be akin to "lag". Living in the past so to speak on a merely perception level. Anyway the surge of illumination is actually fascinating. Shallan's use of it is rather unimaginative so hopefully Renarin shows us what it can do.

Queston/Theory: Corruption of Text [Mistborn Spoilers]
Numb replied to Halabalabash's topic in Stormlight Archive
The stones being holy may have something to do with how Roshar has no tectonic plates. If people started any large scale mining the continent would slowly be destroyed as the only thing currently keeping it alive is the highstorm dropping crem. It makes sense for this overtime to become something more holy/mystical than merely practical -
Maybe I should ask this in the Mistborn forums instead since I'm struggling to understand how Hemulogy works then. It seems to have no common medium if it works on any metal on any planet. Everything else requires some change to the persons sDNA and a conduit to use the power. If hemulogy works on everyone does that mean that every human on a shardworld has some common sDNA that lets them use Hemulogy? If that's the case then how exactly did Ruin make the magic system on Scadrial. It sounds like the system was around even before Ruin but he merely altered it.

Queston/Theory: Corruption of Text [Mistborn Spoilers]
Numb replied to Halabalabash's topic in Stormlight Archive
Hoid does mention some essay or document that became the basis of the gender roles in Roshar. I'm not sure if that implies it was Cultivation that wrote it or someone else. From what he said it seems that the author just wrote down all the things she felt fun as what woman should do and everything violent as men. -
At the end of the day it comes down to what the WoB said. Kel is from Scadrial and he'll do anything he has to to survive. Dalinar is from Roshar which is bound in all these reals and laws of Honor. Kel would just find some way to exploit this to kill Dalinar so there would never be a "fair" fight between the two. The only reason Kel even fought out in the open was because he saw a chance to become more than a man. Fighting is what Alethi do but they do it in a very strict and formal way. Kel has no formal training other than being a mistborn so why would he ever allow himself to get into a fair fight with someone that outmatches him in that regard. If shardplate doesn't stop emotional Allomancy I could see Kel pulling the trick Vin did on Lord Venture. A moment of complete emotional overload would give the perfect opportunity for a killing blow. The only reason it's never done again is because everyone Vin faces after that is either Mistborn or Inquisitor.

Dalinar´s thoughts on Galivar´s assassination
Numb replied to Edgedancer's topic in Stormlight Archive
I find it odd that Gavilar almost beat Szeth when he dismantles Adolin/Dalinar so easily. Did he get better over time? As for the God thing I feel that's a question Sanderson wants us to think about. Is power itself Divine or is being Divine something more? -
If Eshonai becomes a Radiant is it not possible that she would tell the writer her story? That's partly why I like Sizgil, he gathers stories and is in the perfect position to do just that. It could even be Eshonai herself!

Lift does call him darkness and Nightblood oozes black smoke. Maybe that's some kind of connection but I doubt it. Sounded more about Lift perception of the world

There's already some discussion about who the author is in this thread http://www.17thshard.com/forum/topic/7777-back-cover-flaps/ -
Stones Unhallowed 10.5% Accurate Predictions: Kaladin
Numb replied to Confused's topic in Stormlight Archive
The difference between Shallan and Kal could be solely due to their orders. Cryptics are rather liberal where as Honorspren seem far more bound. Kal is a natural leader and protector but he still had to say specific oaths about protecting. There are issues with leadership he still hasn't been able to grapple with. One of those being his inability to let his men go. He believes he has to protect all his men regardless of situation which is something a leader can't do. His men are willing to die for him and he has to accept sometimes he can't save everyone. I feel this next book will deal with that. I imagine a situation where a group of his men have to sacrifice themselves to save a group of people and he has to be willing to let them do it. -
Stones Unhallowed 10.5% Accurate Predictions: Kaladin

It seems more likely the Ideal will have something to do with leadership or responsibility. He seems to have the protecting part rather covered. -
If Ruin built in the flaw it should be possible for Harmony to remove it. Although if it works on all shard worlds does that mean that it actually is of Ruin? Does metal only from Scadrial work? Does one need to be spiked on Scadrial or can you spike anyone anywhere? Hemalogy didn't seem to be known pre-TLR so I don't really see how the heralds would be hemalurgic unless Ati told Honor about the magic before his mind got bent by the shard.
-
Oh I assumed it was just the nature of spiking that let shards control them. If TLR intentionally put it in then it seems even more likely harmony removed it.

Seems like any crime is punishable by death in Nale's eyes if you are a surgebinder. Ym's crime I think was giving poisoned wine to a woman but it seems as if it wasn't intentional so most likely would be a man slaughter charge. Lift's only crime was stealing food and trespassing which isn't really something that is punishable by death. These instances make me wonder if Nale actually follows the law or if the law itself doesn't define punishment? I find it hard to believe each of these societies view these crimes as enough to warrant instance execution. It's almost as if he only cares about what one needs to break the law and not everything else. A country like Azir which is all about paperwork should have some kind of trial system as well? Having said that none of them protested about killing her right there so maybe they don't.
-
We don't know if Harmony actively controls them like Ruin did or they merely follow Harmony's orders. I wonder if Harmony could have changed them in some way so active control is no longer possible. Seems to be too big a liability for a worldhopper if any shard could just take control.

Don't think Vin channeled hatred towards Ati when she did that. I read it more as her knowing that it would kill her so while she still had a reason to live she wouldn't attack. Vin didn't seem to really hate anyone, she just wanted to survive and protect the people she loves. That made her perfect preservation holder as she knew in order to "preserve" humanity she had to destroy. Leras couldn't manage the second part.

Eshonai confirmed for Knights Radiant?
Numb replied to Adolin_Dustbringer's topic in Stormlight Archive
I don't remember reading anything about Eshonai wanting to kill Dalinar before the stormspren happened. When she fought Dalinar the first time after the betrayal we don't actually know of she meant to kill him or merely put him into a position where she could talk to him. Remember her people didn't share the same view she had on the truce and Alethi are rather bloodthirsty so it makes sense to first defeat Dalinar before being able to talk to him. She wouldn't know that Dalinar actually wanted peace himself. If anything her "trust" of Dalinar leads me to believe the bonding theory. Seems every Radiant in training so far instantly has some kind of trust for the big man. I imagine Willshapers as people that do what they want when the situation allows it but are able to rise to the occasion is needed. This leads to the prejudge that they are inconsistent in temperament as when things aren't dire they are just fulfilling their desires. Eshonai still desperately wants to go journeying about but instead she stays as an anchor for her people. -
Moash didn't see destruction in the world when Ruin actively used him, he instead saw beauty in destruction/ruin. I'd imagine the same thing might happen if Odium would take over someone. They would view things/acts of hatred as beauty instead. That's why Moash basically always wanted to be controlled by Ruin so he wouldn't have the pain of his actions.

Since we have confirmation it's not the writer of AAA I think the removes Khriss or Nazh as well as they are both possible candidates thought Khriss is more likely the author than Nazh.
-
It could also be the same spren/unmade that was messing around with Szeth. It seems capable of changing it's voice and speaking directly to a person's mind.
-
That's really cool, didn't even see it. He reminds me a lot of Cett from Mistborn series who was really cool. He has the whole "i have to be viewed as bad" thing going but being Roshar and not Scadrial he isn't as ruthless.
-
You are kidding yourself if you think we would be Bridge four, more like the unmade or better yet lustmade?Pornmade? We would then have Pornlach, Nergapornl etc.
-
My initial thought was it's the writer of the AAA but the tone is far more storybook than that. The writer has a flare for the dramatic so I think it's not Mr. T and I also think these were written long after the events of SA which means it doesn't have to be someone that has access to the knowledge during the time. I feel it might be Sigzil since it's written like a storyteller and he seems to be a person that could survive. I also didn't realize how well that Eshonai description leads into WIllshapers
-
I don't mean as a worldhopper. I imagine some huge epic battle towards the end of the Cosmere books on a universal scale where as a last desperate attempt by Harmony to save his people he calls on their ultimate champion. Queue epic gladiator music with explosions everywhere as Vin strolls into life. On the topic of the Kandra. If one was on Roshar could Harmony still communicate with it?
