I always saw luck as, well just luck, fortune, and 'bad luck' as just the lack of luck. Assuming luck in the cosmere only affects you, than storing luck would make it so when you make a guess, choose a direction, some kind of choice, it will more likely be a bad choice or wrong guess. I toss a coin and choose heads, I have a 50 percent chance of being right. If I'm storing luck, than the chances will be less in my favor. But that wouldn't stop me from being able to learn something and do it right. If I'm an expert sniper, and never miss, than even if I'm storing luck, I wouldn't loose that skill and miss.

It all comes down to pride, being so powerful it's ridiculous, and possibly loosing his mind due to Ruin trying to influence him for a thousand years. Though I'm guessing you could avoid insanity by storing and tapping identity, and compounding it might be the same as a kandra with the blessing of presence. He was caught off guard because he had nothing to worry about (with good reason) and he didn't know that someone would be able to absorb the mists.

Significance of Steelhearts Ability To Turn Objects To Steel, Why?
Cstryon replied to Moash's topic in The Reckoners
I got the impression that he turned things to steel when he lost his temper, or cool, not something he consciously controlled. But it's been a while so I could be wrong. But I agree it seems to be just another weird quirk that comes with being an Epic. And also has the added effect of creating an interesting setting and plot device. -
I believe curing a hangover with what caused the hangover, is a step towards addiction. Sandersonoholicism.... I successfully recovered from the Wheel of Time, but it was hard. I didn't reread it, but I went through several wiki articles filling gaps in my head. Now, back to The Way of Kings second read through.... I'm in denial.

Being a narcoleptic, I could see myself easily being addicted to Feruchemical bronze. I would go to sleep at a regular time at night, if I can't fall asleep, I'll start storing wakefulness, not all night, but just enough to be sleepy enough, and fall asleep. And then when I'm having the occasional hypersomnia, tap wakefulness, instead of needing medications. But I'd find myself taping it every morning just to be awake. And if I was a dual bronze twinborn, I'd never sleep again. Take my metal minds, I'd end up sleeping for days on end.

Maybe being Yolish, since they are supposed to be the first humans (as I understand, please correct me if I'm wrong) the potential for every magic system could be in his sDNA. So maybe he just needs to be exposed to the power long enough to awaken it. We know Feruchemy was around long before the FE. Maybe that power was not necessarily from Ruin/Preservation, but a similar enough ability exists on Yolen, and our Scadrial shards just imitates this power. BS did say it just requires some hacking to use different powers. Maybe it's just that much easier for the Yolish humans.

We do have to consider Steris has a lot of pressure, socially and politically to marry, and be a good wife. For the good of her house's reputation. Her abhorrence to Wax's "uncouth" manner, could be her attempts to rid herself of that...unpopular behavior, because of the pressures she's having to endure in the society she's in. This could be an internal struggle, having to give up on the one she loves (Ranette?) who, not only represents the uncouth lifestyle, but also represents the socially unacceptable idea of homosexual relationships. This combined with needing to provide an heir to continue her family line and house name. Being able to pursue her true love is just not possible in her world. Ranette's bitterness could have something to do with this as well. I feel like Brandon has touched on these kinds of forbidden relationships in other books (at the moment I can't think of another example, maybe someone could help me out here). His world building is such that he touches on so many aspects of life and social structures, adding more realism, and relatable characters. Though, I feel he might not focus to much on this (if they are lovers) more than just adding another personal struggle and conflict to make his characters more real. Very interesting, but we'll have to see if he goes in this direction. Although, if Steris is able to break out of the social demand, and embrace her true love, that could lead to it being possible for Wax and Marasi to fall in love.

Is it Possible to Store Death with Feruchemy
Cstryon replied to Lightsworn Panda's topic in Mistborn
I could see using duralumin to store connection being used to store life sense. The same sense you get with breath. Storing would of course take away your connection, but is it just human connection, or connections in general? Imagine tapping connection and suddenly being very aware of everything going on around you. Feeling people looking at you, getting the feel of the general emotion in a crowd etc... -
Yes thank you. Maybe the sound thing is just a habit she picked up on.

WOK/WOR vs.Warbreaker (spoilers included)
Cstryon replied to Airsick Lowlander's topic in Warbreaker
I think the use of shash is evidence of a common origin of people on the shard worlds. We've also seen that people on Roshar are often named after some of the important people in their history, Shallan and Shalash. I bet there could be a connection between Kaladin and Kalad. Once again related to a common origin. Kaladin does complain that he has a lighteyes name. -
The first chapter of Warbreaker, where Siri goes into the kitchen. Mab is humming (wouldn't that be drawing attention to yourself?). Mab is making a stew, a couple times in the scene, Mab taps the side of the pot and listens. The second time she does it it says something like Mab knows how well the stew is doing by the sound. I don't have the exact quote because I have the audio book. So I also don't know the page, maybe someone could help me with that? Another thing that I think could support this, is there is the alternative version that Brandon wrote where Mab goes with Siri to Halandren (spelling?). Maybe in future warbreaker stories, we'll learn more about Mab?

I've always been of the mind that "magic" is science, just not understood yet by most. I was raised LDS (like Brandon! But I'm not really practicing). I've been taught that all matter is spirit, and spirit is matter. Brandon seems to touch on this with his Physical Spiritual and Cognitive aspects. If we assumed that there is no such thing as magic, than all this "magic" just isn't fully understood science. I personally think Brandon is going in this direction with his magic systems since there are so many rules and processes in them. The God Beyond just might be some scientific genius! Adonalsium could have been a person (or collection of persons) that had reached a higher level of existence becoming closer to the God beyond. He/she/they could have made a mistake, or was sufficiently attacked (by Hoid and the Dragon maybe) that they lost this power and was shattered.

AAt the end of AoL he was being executed, they took his metal minds. But the first couple of shots he healed. I would assume this is because he swallowed gold dust/pieces and had stored "stupid" amounts of health in them incase he had been separated from his external minds.
-
So was Sazed aware of this when he remade Scadrial?
-
Wow, Nymp, now I'm seeing the last chapter of the Cosmere being an epic battle, God of Balance Vs God of Hate.... But without hate, where's the love? Sazed's brain is going to blow! Maybe he'll give up some preservation for the survivors, so he can use Ruin, to destroy Odium. In all seriousness, I really like the idea of Sazed being part of the end story, though, I might have trouble reading a story where the main characters are God like shard bearers.

I'll admit, so far many little interesting things seem to mean more in the Cosmere. But this could just be Brandon inventing original names and they tend to sound the same. Though, like you said, surely no accidents? That's who Tevidian was! Thanks! Some of the names I can see similarities, but until you've read all the Cosmere works, I don't want to really discuss them.
-
I'm not going to comment on all the names. I don't know if it's coincidence or design. Veil and Vin... Very interesting! I don't remember who Tevidian was, though I've read everything published so far.

Soren is my middle name! Perhaps there was an auto correct by Ruin to hide my true nature!

Drops all his weight, meaning nearly weightless when he pulled. The coin would now weigh more than him. I don't know if there is a limit to how much mass you can drop. What I meant to impress is the inquisitor, now weighing far less than the coin, is now pulled in that direction. While he's already going that direction, at a good speed, that's when he compounds and gets massive, if needed, he could do it at the last moment before impact. No coins on Roshar doesn't matter, no inquisitor either. I doubt any coinshot/lurcher is going anywhere without small bits of metal to throw around.
-
Lashing the inquisitor doesn't do much, Feruchemical iron fixes any weight problems. Plus if shard blade and plate are too invested, I'd argue if this inquisitor had so many spikes, he'd be too invested to lash. Compound iron, toss a few coins, Feruchemical zinc, Feruchemical steel, drop all the weight into a mind, pull on a coin, he's flying. Any metal on this windrunner or even the coins he likely ignores they clink off his plate is purchase too pull straight at the windrunner, while in motion, compound the iron again, burning pewter (probably won't need Feruchemical pewter) and this windrunner just got smashed by a very massive object flying at very high speed. If the inquisitor had enough metal arts, and was creative enough, his powers become rediculous.
-
To be fair was intending for the windrunner to be on his own and no plate. Just finished words of radiance. Spoilers following.... Say for example, Kal, at the end of WoR vs Marsh at AoL. But even without a full compliment, what Kal did seemed a lot like... Trying not to be a jerk, just thinking of Vin, and I'm convinced. The inquisitor would have to have started out like the Lord Ruler with full Mistborn and feruchemist. Than got some added strength with spikes I am thinking. Wow.
-
Fair points. Great points actually! Generic vs generic, the windrunner wins. But this one has around the same number of spikes as Marsh, and he is at least compounding atium. So I'd assume this one has to be compounding. So what powers from hemalurgy is it going to take to make this fair? Can we assume my previous expected metals are being compounded (Gold, iron, pewter)?
-
What we do know of hemalurgic spikes doesn't say they will block shardblades, nor do we know if they can't be lashed. I'll admit, I'm not done with Words of Radiance* but as I understand, you have to touch something to lash it right? So that means the Windrunner has to actually get close to the Inquisitor. Remember, he's got a lot of spikes, which means it's very likely he's compounding several types of metals. As soon as he see's that this Windrunner is not afraid of his obviously inhuman appearance, he's not going to just stand there while the Windrunner comes attacking. The Windrunner's most obvious advantage is the shardblade. Large blade easily wielded by an otherwise (considering how intimidating Inquisitors are) normal looking warrior. The inquisitor isn't going to simply let himself get hit, even if he didn't think anything was special about the blade, it's a huge sword carried easily, obviously the guy must have powers, maybe a Pewter Misting? So the inquisitor will be on the defensive if the Windrunner goes in for any lashings. Now if it did come down to hand and hand, assuming the Windrunner is faster than the Inquisitor, once the inquisitor realizes he's being lashed (getting heavy, having trouble moving, obviously something is different with me), one Pewter enhanced, maybe even compounded punch would end that. Assuming the Windrunner doesn't KO with a Pewter compounded punch, he'll have to heal after that, and will use a lot of stormlight to do so. That might be enough to lose the lashings, if not, the inquisitor is still Pewter compounded and not quite feeling the lashings. Remember Miles in AoL compounding gold? Sure there may not have been a shardblade involved, but I'd argue that healing like that would fix a shard wound. Maybe using a lot of reserves, but he should be able to survive enough hits to realize he needs to not get touched by that blade, time to get creative. I'm not saying the Inquisitor would live/win, but I don't think that this would be that easy for the Windrunner. Remember, he's only got the blade, not a set of shards. I guess to make this a little bit more of an even fight, would powers should the Inquisitor have received from the spikes to reach a point that you guys would feel this is fair? I'm already thinking, both f and a gold, iron, and pewter. But is that not enough? Should we establish exactly what this inquisitor is powered with before we try to pit him against this windrunner? Told you I was obsessed . *I am almost done, if you have spoilers, you know, just be considerate of anyone that hasn't finished yet and maybe warn of spoilers before posting. Me personally, I can deal with spoilers, as long as I don't get too many. And usually it's my fault I read it.
