I'm with king of nowhere on this issue. Personally I don't think plot holes (or suspension of disbelief as he calls it) matter as long as they're not stupidly obvious while reading (or watching in case of movies), as long as novel or movie are engaging enough that people don't notice it at that time. As for Parshendi not doing as OP has suggested, do remember that no military leader is perfect. It could just as easily be a tactical mistake made by them, after all we suggest things one could have done differently all the time in hindsight.

^^ That's even more ambiguous than the previous one. Does it mean like the one you posted before or along the lines of "Odium has killed at least one OF THE ShardS you don't know about."?

^^ This. Most of the Mistborn magic system, if they do manage to get the budget for it, wil look like telekinesis to those who haven't read the books. The entertainment of that magic system comes from imagining it in our mind & I don't think they will able to make justice to that. Edit: Also I don't like the idea of Brandon getting pulled out of his writing to adjust his novels to screenplay, instead of giving us new novels.

When did Venli and the scholars try out Stormform?

Something is affecting Eshonai's mind too, persuading her not to pursue the matter further. -
Alethi Codes of War (The actual illustration)

The picture showing last clap is of a regular sword, not shardblade, so Rosharians at least believe in ninjas catching swords by hands. :-) -

While that may be true, in the history of fantasy genre whenever there's student teacher fight, student has trumped everytime, from Darth Vader to Gawn Trakand. -
Does this mean we don't have to use spoiler tag for WoR content anymore?

What is the usual time for fixing these typos? Also I've a kindle, do the kindle books get updated as & when you spot mistakes or does it take some time too?

Even if there's a backdoor, I sincerely hope Brandon doesn't use it to give villains entry to Urithiru. It's been done too many times before. Anyone remember Trollocks using waygates?

Brent Weeks, The Lightbringer Series

The ending gave me a pause too. I don't know how well that'll work out in next novel. -

Err...I think you have gone for the reverse, i.e. if WoT was SA. -
Brent Weeks, The Lightbringer Series
harry31j97 replied to Catalyst21's topic in Entertainment Discussion
Just finished The Broken Eye. It's the best novel this year after WoR, I would say even better than the Tower Lord. I'm with Gabriel here, italicizing thoughts is not strictly needed, if done properly, as it's done in The Broken Eye. Biggest plus of this novel is, I think , the way political intrigue is shown. Just wonderful. Character development is beautifully done. I think Brent weeks is getting better & better. The night angel was good, but not among the best. This though is right up there among the best fantasy series. Highly recommended read. -
Ah... My bad. Thanks for the quote. One question though, why was he chasing the highstorm instead of going the way I assumed he was going? My route would have provided him with stormlight on the way & the warning he wanted to give was about everstorm, not highstorm anyway, so even if there was a delay, it wouldn't have much mattered.

But that's what I'm saying. 3rd oath is 'I'll protect even those I don't like as long as it's right'. It's a natural progression from 'I'll protect those who can't protect themselves'. Whatever next oath is, you're saying Kal has to understand 3rd to proceed & that's fine for him, because it was very convenient that one of the persons he hated just happened to be under threat of assassination. You honestly can't say that every windrunner will just have that one person lying around him, that he hates, needing his protection. So if there is a fixed order of Ideals, should that windrunner be stuck on level two & not progress to next level if none of the person he dislikes is under threat?(Or there aren't that many dislikeable persons around him? Even if he has ,hypothetically speaking, the experience necessary to say the 4th oath? To progress to next level in bond then, he'd have to actively hunt for the experience to say 3rd oath. In short it shouldn't matter what oath to say in what order, because life isn't going to conveniently provide experiences in the order that you need to say the oaths.Edit: I should say this will likely matter very less in the actual novels of SA as there's likely to be details of each order from point of view of only one knight of that order. But Brandon is known for solid background & this seems like a weak link to me.

Dalinar, Kaladin & co were at Urithiru at the same time that highstorm was at shattered plains. I don't see Kaladin waiting much before setting out for his home to give the warning. So for highstorm to pass him before that (i.e. cross the half the continent), it would have to move very fast & so it would have to be much more frequent than is shown in books (that is if we consider it to circle around planet & come to origin again rather than it getting dissipated at west coast & getting started anew at the origin after a long interval).
-
After reading this transcript, I've a question, did Kaladin encounter the highstorm during his journey? The reason being, according to Rosharan scholars Urithiru is at centre of continent, in Emul or Tu Bayla,& so when Kaladin is going to Alethkar he should meet the highstorm which is blowing westward from the shattered plains. So if he did meet it, why didn't his depleted gems get filled up with stormlight & if he did not meet it, then why not? One reason in that case that I can think of is highstorm doesn't blow for the complete area under a specific longitude, that it occurs in patches of areas & Kal might have avoided it.

This works with the third oath of windrunners only because it's natural progression from the 2nd. But if 4th oath is not a progression from 3rd but a branching progression from 4th, it doesn't work. Say if 4th oath is 'I'll not protect someone if they're wrong just because I like them' (a little silly I know, but I'm just trying to come up with something that'll show that both 3rd & 4th can follow 2nd oath, in stead of 4th following the 3rd) then rigid nature of order of Ideals to be spoken will actually require that Kal must experience life in such order that he understands & speaks ideals in required order. Brandon will likely take care of that in story, but I'm still not sold on that idea, because realistically speaking one can't determine the order in which what life experiences one can have, so the Knight in training might get stuck at a particular oath. Again, I'm saying Brandon will come up with oaths that'll work, but if it was a real world & KR were real, this requirement of speaking oaths in particular order doesn't make sense. Well what do you know, Lightflame will be dancing to know Lift can have a shardfork. Lol..Anyway thanks Jeremy.

My bad. Thanks for the quote.

In chapter 52 'Into the Sky', Kaladin tells Syl, "Szeth called this a Lashing." Question is, how did he know Szeth's name? Alethi have only ever known him as the assassin in white. I couldn't find anywhere how Kal came by Szeth's name. If someone can confirm this, we could add this to the typo list.

Same could be said for WoT, series gathers steam in 2nd book. Until the end of LoC series is absolutely wonderful, somehow loses speed in books 7-10. Books 11-14 are a lot better, as has been said before by many.

This is a fantastic thread. Here I came to know that Malazan gets better 2nd book onwards. I had previously read Gardens of the moon 2 yrs back. Got back onto the series after reading this thread, i'm now reading 3rd book & can't keep it down. Trust me, it's a really wonderfull series.

Why (I think) that Kaladin is a better hero than Dalinar
harry31j97 replied to Patrick Star's topic in Stormlight Archive
Lol. Lots of 'Kalidan' from two different users. Have they set their minds on alethi names being in the form of Dalinar or Gavilar? Regarding Dalinar's backstory, I think we'll not get as much of it as we've had it of Kaladin or Shallan simply because he's been alloted 5th book in series & last in the 1st arc. The main story is going to take precedence over his backstory. So whatever the ans to this debate, we are more likely to have it in next book, when Kaladin is going back to his home & then to capital to control riots. How will he handle rioters or the queen who are certainly going to have bad view of his slave scars? -
