  1. Edit double post - it did not show up - so I retyped it & now they both pop up GRRRR @junior Renerin was not bonded either but he showed a reaction as soon as Adolin handed him the blade.
  2. I agree that Syl's reaction would not have caused Relis to react like this. Also when Adolin handed the Salinor's Shardblade to Renarin after the Salinor Dual, it is obvious that they both would be touching it at the same time. So Adolin who is used to Shardblades, surely would have noticed if the thing was screaming at him as it was at Renarin. Renarin "grimaced" as he took it. Obviously hearing the screams and trying to be brave/manly/macho like the rest of the men in his family. But Adolin had no such reaction - we are in his POV so he surely would have noted it in his own POV. It did not happen! So by this - the Relis Dual has to be something else. BUT - Flaw in my original theory - if Relis has a Spren, why was it not screaming at him for touching his own blade before his Kal attack? The only ways that I can (so far) think of that makes all these pieces fit together are: 1. If Relis had already reached a Shardbearing Surgbinder stage. Shallan got her blade a long time ago (11), so maybe Relis was advanced enough to have a Shardblade, but like Shallan was not to the full KR stage. Beats me what KR he would be, but it would have to be one that could be killed by Relis trying to kill an unarmed man in a "somewhat friendly" duel. If that was the case, he would have had to be "hiding" his original Shardblade. Assuming he ever had one - most likely did because I think that it would be noted if he just popped up with a unknown blade. I think that this is the least likely as he has not been displaying any powers that are noted, but then Kal, Shallan, Jasna & Renerin were pretty good at hiding their powers. A case For this theory is that he was the TOP dueler for a long time. Might have had a little Stormlight boost? Just because he was an chull is not an argument against - as Kal & Shallan were also somewhat annoying at times. 2. The only other option (that I can think of so far) is that Relis said the words associated with his dead Blade & was in the initial process of reviving it. Similar to what I think that Adolin might be in the process of doing - except that Adolin has not stated the right Words yet. So maybe his blade was starting to "talk" to him in his head, but by trying to actually Kill Kal, he violated the oaths (he had previously said) & killed the semi-dead blade spren again. Both of these scenarios seem to meet all the FEW known facts. I am kind of partial to the last one - because I would like to see all the blades "revived" and it adds to that theory. So what do you think? Anyone else have another option that actually meets all the puzzle pieces?
  3. I can't see that as being the case from his reaction: Relis dropped the blade as if bitten. He backed away, raising his hands to his head. "What is it? What is it! No, I didn't kill you!" He shrieked as if in great pain. Then he can be heard running off screaming far into the other room / hallway This is not the reaction from a normal "screaming" Shardblade. Neither Kal or Delinar or Renarin experience such symptoms that drive them from the room screaming. All their symptoms disappear immediately. The only thing similar was when Kal lost Syl in the Chasum fall, & that knocked him immediately. If he had been concious - I propose that he would have been effected the same.
  4. Relis apparently had a Spren at the dual and apparently it would not let him attach defenseless Renarin, but he thought it was OK to attack Kaladin. Obviously is was not OK & he "Killed" his Spren when he swong at Kal. Both Kal and Relis hear the Spren's dying scream. Then: **Relis dropped the blade as if bitten. He backed away, raising his hands to his head. "What is it? What is it! No, I didn't kill you!" He shrieked as if in great pain, ** So what kind of Spren was his Spren (Can't be honor yet - as so far Syl is the only one of those. Do we have any other clues from the book somewhere? Will Kal help him recover his Spren? What type of KR would Relis be? I can't find much to go on, but thought I would see if someone else could find some clues. Would Kal even want to help Relis recover his Spren - The guy was going to kill him. Thoughts anyone?
  5. Nalen does need to Die - Per what he said to Lift - He does not (Actually) care about the Law, he is obviously just using it as an excuse. Destination BEFORE Journey type of thing. He is just using the Law as a one man Kangaroo Court in an attempt to stop a Desolution, which is not the intent of any law that he is suposedly upholding. The same for Ym. Nalen is more of a murder that Ym, because it is obvious that Ym was an unwiting pawn used to kill that person. There is no culability, he just delivered a package like a postman. Ym would never have been found guilty and most any reasonable Legal system, except for Nalen's Kangaroo Court.
  6. The way I read the chapters, she was generating "light" glimmers/displays that she would play with. Kind of like Kal probably enhancing his fighting ability with Stormlight long before he "connected" with Syl. In a world where Fearspren, Windspren, Painspren +++++++++ are always poping up around people, it is/would be very difficult to actually notice a particulay Spren that is "yours" versus just another wounderful magical thing that pops up in the world for reasons that you never really understand. Point in fact, Kal never really paid any attention to Syl, until she actually started talking directly to him. Even then, it took a couple times before he realized it was something unusual. Then take that and apply it to a 10-- year old girl & it would be even harder for them to figure out that something unusual was happening. Then at 10 she Kills he mother & deliberately blocks all the memories out. The monster in the Safe was her Shardknife that she killed her mother with. Her father took it away & locked it up - & it turned to "mist" but she always thought it was in the Safe, for years after.
  7. What was it that Broke Shallan? Because she was clearly manufesting her powers and had already Said the Words - Before he mother tried to kill her! He Mother wanted to kill her because Shallan was manufesting "powers" apparently "Playing with the Light". Spren come to KR because they are "Broken" so, Shallan was already a surgebinder at 10 and that "scared" her mother & her friend/lover & they decided that they had to kill Shallan. He Father fought the guy, & the Mother took a knife to try to kill Shallan, but Shallan was already far enough alone to produce a Shardknife" & killed her mother in self defense. So even though this was given as Shallan's "Breaking", clearly her Breaking actually happened much earlier. Is this an Error or will we get the rest of the story?
  8. Yes, I feel the same. Her growth in this book was just great. & the way she pulled up the people around her, similar to Kal but different in her own way, using hew own skills. I can't wait until Gaz grows a new eye. Also, I kind of think that she will be actually weaving illusions on some of her "team".
  9. I think that it is clear in the Lhan interlude that there was and Eleventh lamp at Kholinar (he referred to it as for the memory of the Tranquiline Halls or some such. But I am pretty sure that it is the "Lock" that blocks its use. How the "Lock" is removed though, I am not sure. Maybe it just "Unplugs" from the wall? then the others can be used?
  10. When Dalinar bonded Stormfather at the end, he specifically states something like "I will not give you ShardS" and you must give up THAT Blade. That was Shards as in plural! I agree that Adolin has an excellent chance of "awakening" his blades Spren. But I think that he needs 2 or 3 things - depending on how you look at it. 1. He needs a complete Set (The Same Shardblade and Matching Shardplate) 2. Not just talk to his Blade (Talking is good), but he needs also to give the Matching Oaths for that KR Type. I think that Shallan, now that she has finished her last KR step, will have her Shardplate. Kal still has Issues (the slave brands) before his Shardplate will appear. 3. Adolin killing Sadeas, also may be his "breaking" that is required for him to bond with a Spren. What Adolin did was not "honerable" but that would only block an Honor Spren. (but all the characters have done BAD things before they bonded). I thought that Adolin would be going the "Justice" route but from what I read above - was obviously wrong. I do not see him as an Edgedancer, so I guess it will be the Dustbringer.
  11. Unfortunately, there is not going to be a lot of time for character development, or Reunion The Everstorm is coming soon and Kal needs to stop at a lot of places to get people preparing for the Wrong way Storm. No one was believing Delinar's spanreed warnings, but they would be hard pressed to ignore a glowing KR flying in to tell them to their asses moving. Even worse is that all the lands are mostly in turmoil. He can't personally warn everybody Where is Urithiru and Hearthstone in relation to Kholinar? So many possibilities, & BS will make it go the way he wants. I really hope that his Mom & Dad are not dead when he gets there But my guess is that Laral will be married and have 3 kids after being married to Roshone for 4+ years. She will be very abused. Kal will save her, her children, his Mom & Dad and most of the townspeople using the bowl of spheres that his Dad had. But he will not save Roshone, as he can't save everyone. So that will not break his Oaths. He will maybe have enough Stormlite to take them to Kholinar, Unlock & use the Oathgate from there. Maybe he gets help from his Dad, who better to give the Honorblade to than his Dad. That is the one person that he knows that would Never, Ever, Ever abuse it.
  12. Thanks to all of you. Very helpful information. From reading all of those (a few times) that is what I thought, but did not want to assume that was the case & end up missing something important. Also, thought that there might be a few others like me, that could not get the book early, and might appreciate knowing for sure as well. Going to be a long night waiting, followed by several long nights reading. See you in Divorce Court ...... I mean, Se you after the read. Again, thanks to all who responded.
  13. I obviously do not want to miss anything, but also do not want to delay my Core reading with re-reading what I have already read several times
  14. My view on the this event and the chipped spheres afterward was that either Delinar or Elhokar were sharply draining the spheres through unconcious Surgebinding. Most likely it was Delinar because he is the one under the most stress and catching & holding a Chasmfiend
  15. Will Amaram recognize Kaladin? Do you mean before Kaladin beats him to a bloody pulp? or After? Just asking.... :/ Can't wait to see how BS plays this. Don't like what I hear on the reviews that he streatches it out so long. Hope they are wrong.
  16. I'm not sure if I agree with that. Lift only just used her advanced Surge (Growth and then Re-growth) for the first times in her current POV. Ym appears to have been using the Regrowth for a while. So his first ability (Running super fast - I hope) should be well practiced like Lifts (anti-friction). But I am somewhat (slightly) resolved to be disappointed, since being "enlighteded" by Moogle. I even presented that posability in the original post. By the was - If he was killed (Still hope not), but if he was - can his Spren go bond to someone else? & how much will he remember from Ym? Does it depend on how long it takes him to find another? That would be my guess. P.S. I never did consider Darkness to be a Szeth level assassan. So he does not need to kill Ym to "prove" himself. But if he did "upgrade" and kill Jasna (or at least try) or start going after the other "Big Guys" Kal, Delinar, Adolin, Selidas, I would seriously consider him a much greater threat. He just seems too "cool" in a bad way to be wasted on "Newbies".
  17. In a Szeth POV he thinks that if he dies, his Blade will go back to the original owner. Also in a Dalinar WoR POV, Dalinar is talking to the Brightlord during a battle on the Shattered Plaines & thinks that the Brightlord has Permanently loaned his Plate & Blade to the Fighter in the battle. But the one who is fighting with the blade must have a lot of trust. The "bowerer" must be able to dismiss and summon the blade in a battle, but the "real" owner could always "call" it back & leave him in trouble. (Not exact words)
  18. Spot ON!!! But don't kill my Cobbler!!!
  19. Well, I can't fault you about the comment Forsaken being Incompetent. They were that as a minimum, but also complete and utter clueless fools. Ishy being the only one that even understood what was really going on, and he was bat-rust crazy. But I hardly put Darkness in the Forsaken class. He is more of a clueless Darkfriend with a Cool Weapon and amazing (not understandable) intel. I do not even put him in the Szeth class. We do not know if Darkness even has an Honorblade (probable) or if so, what powers he gets from it. All we know is that he apparently can hold Stormlight (Lift saw him leaking it) and he ran fast, but not fast enough to catch her. But to me both Mister T and Darkness reek of Forsaken class cluelessness, in that they say that they are working to prevent/prepare for Desolations, but that, from what I have seen so far, is not something that they can actually accomplish. And if they can’t do it, then they are making it easier for the Desolation to be successful. According to the words that they are spouting, they are not working for Odium. But their actions seem to be working for him. Are they both “Forsaken Clueless” or are they both just spouting gibberish, for anyone who might be listening? I think Mister T, might be doing just that. But Darkness does not seem to be that type of guy. That said, he might only have the abilities of growth/re-growth from the Honorblade. Not much use in fighting other Surgebinders. That is probably why he mostly seems to concentrate on beginners, so he has a better chance of success. But I still have hopes of seeing more of our "ONE of Many, Kindly Old Cobbler, Story Collector, Philosopher, Good Samaritan" Ym. But you have put a significant dent in my hopes. In the line of making Darkness actually do something, so he would be more threatening/competent. I would be OK with him taking out a Somewhat advanced Surgbinder, like Jasna. THAT would be an accomplishment that would kick him up in the story Threat Level. Not taking out my Kindly Old Cobbler.
  20. I took it to mean that the Haralds had already departed as the fighting was done (maybe all killed as it was a very bad one) and Nohadon was wondering about the next Desolation and how prepared mankind would be with 9 out of 10 dead and all of civilization to rebuild. ddsd
  21. Can anyone confirm this. Were the "Readings" final versions?
  22. OK, the Last we saw of Ym was "Then he ran" He is an Old Man ""Grandpa Old" according to the child he was talking to. It is unlikely that a normal old man could out run Darkness, but we already know that Ym has already mastered "Regrowth" which according to Lift's Wyndal, is an advanced ability. So my guess is that Ym's first ability is to RUN real fast! if he could "teleport" it would not say "run". That is assuming that he did not "die trying to run". So what do you think and what type of KR would that make him?
  23. I'm just saying that I think that it would be best if she can do both. Two sources vs only one source. & at this point, I think that will be the case. Can't think of any reason that it would not be both. The only thing is that Wyndal seem to know that food is is not the norm (Very Special), but somehow has not communicated to her the option it use Stormlight from Spheres. She was even carrying one for light.
  24. Yes, that is my concern. I do not think that it is the case, but it is a concern. 8 days & we find out - I hope.
  25. What I do not understand is that Lift has been with Wyndal and "Manipulating Friction" for many weeks. Wyndal seems to know a lot, but has not taught her to take Stormlight" from Spheres?
