    I don't honestly know. I personally think her mother new full well what she was and sought to kill her to prevent the return of the voidbringers. (Judging by the reaction) As to her friend no idea? He managed to overcome Shallan's father in a fight so i would guess he was trained in combat but i can't remember if there was a decent description of him but i think if a had to choose between the factions i would probably choose the Diagram faction sisnce they are the ones for saving humanity supposedly. Ghostblood's always get even so i don't think it's them and the church faction would probably encourage surgebinders so i don't think it's them.

    I don't think he is a Herald but i cant imagine he might be important. There seems to be too much detail just for a run of the mill encounter with a Bridgeman from a different squad.

    Stormlight is a glowing substance brought by the Highstorms like an energy source. Gemstones whether bare or encased in glass spheres, left outside during a highstorm will become infused with Stormlight, which will remain within the stones for a week or so, the Stormlight can then be used to fuel the operation of fabrials and lamps or used to fuel Surgebinding abilities. When held by a Surgebinder or leaking from damaged Shardplate, Stormlight appears as a luminescent white vapor.

    Im more worried about this mysterious relationship with Restares (who Gavilar mentioned as a possible employer for Szeth) Also the one who convinced Amaram to steal the Shardblade from Kaladin, since he was trained in using the sword and accustomed to the Plate and to get rid of the witnesses. This guy has unknown allegiances and seems quite manipulative too!
