[Full Book Spoilers] Parshendi Bonding Nahel Spren
cris34b replied to Moogle's topic in Stormlight Archive
The Stormspren, though, are creatures of Odium's big bad spren like the evil equivalent of the Nightwatcher and such. These Parshendi "Gods" are splinters of Odium, not only that, but Odium himself is still alive. How I see it is that this is almost identical to Ruin controlling the Steel Inquisitors through their Hemalurgy, which is a forced change in the Spirit Web. Odium controls his Voidbringers through their corrupted spren, and as we see here when Eshonai transforms. So yeah, looks like this was forced onto her, likely changing her spirit web in a way that allowed Odium to take over her mind, just like how when she began to think rebelliously against this, her mind was suddenly -yanked- back onto course. (edit) I agree with Youngy entirely. The Voidbringers are entirely too similar to Hemalurgically effected people from Mistborn. -
Yes, also on page 727 in the hardcover book, Wit admits to having Perfect Pitch, making music much easier. "He hummed softly to himself and nodded. 'Perfect pitch,' Wit said, 'makes this all so much easier than it once was....'" So here's some more evidence for Wit's trip to Nalthis, and possible exchange with Vasher. Breath for Stormlight. However, on the topic of Vasher being Zahel. I'm not sure about this, since there is a planned sequel for Warbreaker now, and I would really like to know when this story happens in relation to that. You know, since he can't jump between worlds mid story. Makes no sense.

Also on page 641: "'She's far too young for me, child,' Wit said. 'That's right,' Adolin said with a nod. 'Stick to women your own age.' Wit grinned. 'Well, that might be a little harder. I think there's only one of those around these parts, and she and I never did get along.'" This implies many things. 1. there is probably another worldhopper nearby. 2. If there isn't a worldhopper, then its some other sort of immortal person, or being, Wit's age is hard to guess. 3. I'm going to hazard a guess and say that the 1 woman nearby that is Wit's age would be Cultivation, and that they don't see eye to eye. 4. If it isn't cultivation, that means that someone else from Yolen managed to survive and is on Roshar. But probably Cultivation.

I actually screamed at my book when I swear, the actions of minor characters can make you crazy. And when that happened, I just legit screamed at the chick in the book, and I was in school at the time, and the teacher's eyes were like dinner plates. God, I get too into these books... I did not, and never will apologize for my love. Sanderfan for life.

Oh god, right? Took so long in WoK to read the smudged tiny letters. This set took me about 2 minutes.

During the Ym interlude, Ym says "We are Irali, and part of the Long Trail, of which this is the Fourth Land." The Long Trail? The Long Trail to Urithiru? I don't know about you, but Ym somehow knows something about the trail to Urithiru, and perhaps even knows where it is. Do any of you know exactly where this interlude happens? And if so, can you find 4 adjacent cities, countries, etc that might be a sort of trail to Urithiru? It might give us a direction to look for the city.

Just realized the dates I posted were not the actual code, but instead were example dates. *facepalm* And back from scratch we go...
-
Year 1173, Month 09, Week 06, Day 05. 5 days between dates. (not including the actual dates written here.) Year 1173, Month 09, Week 08, Day 01. 5 days between dates. (not including the actual dates written here.) Year 1173, Month 09, Week 09, Day 01. 5 days between dates. (not including the actual dates written here.) Year 1173, Month 09, Week 10, Day 01. 2 days between dates. (not including the actual dates written here.) Year 1173, Month 09, Week 10, Day 04. 5 days between dates. (not including the actual dates written here.) Year 1173, Month 10, Week 01, Day 05. 5 days between dates. (not including the actual dates written here.) Year 1173, Month 10, Week 02, Day 05. 5 days between dates. (not including the actual dates written here.) Year 1173, Month 10, Week 04, Day 01. 6 days between dates. (not including the actual dates written here.) Year 1173, Month 10, Week 06, Day 03. 5 days between dates. (not including the actual dates written here.) Year 1173, Month 10, Week 08, Day 04. This looks very much like a list of high storm dates, and the regularity of their occurrences, all but 2 happening 5 days apart from each other lends to the theory.

On Page 406 of the hardback edition of Words of Radiance, there are 5 lines of the Alethi script on the Navani's Notebook illustration. I learned the Alethi script, and have thus translated these 5 lines. From top to bottom, they translate as follows. You're welcome. Enjoy the book!

Okay, so we know that Roshar has three magic systems, right? Surgebinding, Voidbinding, and something to do with Spren and Fabrials. Surgebinding seems like a pretty physical power system. Whatever the magic system with Fabrials is, it uses Spren, which are cognitive aspects. And the Void is often used as a reference to the afterlife, which i think will make it a spiritual power. Will Brandon make 3 sets of powers, one for each physical, cognitive, spiritual aspect, but with similar outcomes? Or will the outcomes be completely different? I don't know, but I like the idea of each one working with only one aspect.

Crystal nails? Are we sure they are crystals? Or is it at all possible they are gemstones? Because the thought of Axies being a strange breed of Chull entertains me to no end.

I like this idea. Also, with Scadrial, I feel like one could make a ship out of steel and iron using the Southern Continent's feruchemical machines. Then the rocket would be weightless on the planet, and would be able to go extremely fast with a bunch of stored speed to start with. Not to mention a few good Pushes would get it moving well for a liftoff. In fact, with a tall enough metal tower, I doubt that the Scadrians would even need fuel to get their ship into space. Roshar seems to have a good setup, since even if not going FTL, they can Soulcast their own food and water, though they'll need to figure out how to permanently store Stormlight. I wonder if on Nalthis, they could just Command something like "Teleport things" Or "When commanded, move fast" Idk, but some serious expiramenting on their part. Sel would have a hard time going from world-to-world mainly because of how fast the planets are orbiting and spinning, and of the hugely perfect distance equations needed. I guess they could go while in a large space ship and move the whole ship, then, use the ship's form to create new Aons in space, since it will technically be the only landmark around, and so will be easy to make new Aons out of. (make it a big ship, preferrably in the shape of the same Aon as Elantris.) Then they could keep trying to get near and teleport into orbit before landing. With Sel, my guess is they will need to train people to quickly identify new ways to make Aons, aka send Elantrians around Sel and have them see how to make new Aons for the surrounding locations, then they can better use AonDor on other planets.

I can imagine an army of Necro-Squirrels moving down from the Northwest to take over the entirety of the U.S.A. That would be the zombie apocalypse. I'm sure nobody expected it to come in the form of a squirrel. No one but the members of the 17th Shard... Prepare yourselves, the end is near.

Inspiration for this idea goes to xbauks. So, everybody has been looking for the Shardpools of Roshar's splinters. But think about this. Within greatshells, gemhearts can be found. Gemhearts that grow very slowly and, though they renew, can be used up. These gemhearts can be used to do extremely powerful soulcasting. I think these gemhearts are a strange form of Shardpool. Perhaps they are Cultivations, since they seem to grow within creatures that have to age and live first. I don't know, all speculation. But I really like the idea that gemhearts are shardpools.

A conversation I definitely want to see happen... Jasnah, Lightsong, Shallan and Wit. I know now it will never happen, poor Lightsong, but still, Jasnah Shallan and Wit, maybe throw in a Navani and we'd have the single funniest dialogue in all of Sandersonian History. Cultivation would laugh so hard, she'd pass a kidney stone and the Everstorm would come.

I wonder what qualities you can lock into or change about Spren, since you can lock in anything that is possible, aka give it a size within a range it can manage. Here is a list with some interesting potential, you guys give me a yes or a no on each. 1. Size: How big is it? 2. Shape: What does it look like? (This has some interesting possibilities with changing spren like artspren) 3. Color: What shade/color (Flamespren cannot be green. /cry) 4. Translucency: is it see through? 5. Reflective: Can I turn a spren into a mirror? 6. Movement: Is it moving in a specific way? (Falling, marching, breaking, perfectly still, etc. Could you use this to move a spren from one location to another, which brings up another one. 7. Location: Could I write down coordinates and teleport the spren away? Perhaps the coordinates have to be in a close location the spren could have moved to on it's own, or perhaps it has to be possible to get to (Not in a closed container) 8. Tangibility: Can I touch it? Because I wanna touch it. 9. Visibility: Invisispren. Note, if you can change both location and tangibility, could you make a spren tangible, grab it, and then have someone teleport it to get a cheap knockoff of the Transportation Surge? Probably not, but it'd be funny to watch the scientists try. Edit: visibility is probably too similar to translucency to keep there, but I won't change it for the sake of the original idea.

Thank you so much for finding this. I knew I'd seen it somewhere. I wish I knew how you people are so good at finding quotes. Anyway, yes, this. This is exactly what I was referring to.

The thing that bugs me the most is that friggen pipe at the end. My theory is that he is somehow retaining the power of Tel'aran'rhiod in real life or something. No clue, but it hurts me to think about it.

Words Of Radiance Back Cover Questions
cris34b replied to Colateralwar's topic in Stormlight Archive
I personally wouldn't mind a Jasnah book. Seeing as the flashback we got of her was a super interesting look into the less-than-usual and very direct way in which Elsecallers develop their Surges. Also, Jasnah's shadow moved towards the light.. So does an Aiman's. The shadow was probably just her Spren, but its still an interesting thought. Hmm, this has convinced me to look further into Axies. He seems too important to just be a random character, having shown up in the Rysn interlude as well. I don't expect him to get his own book, not by a long shot, but I think he'll show up at least once or twice in each book for a while until either the end, until he teaches one of the main characters something important, or until he shows us a huge insight to the world of spren, which, seeing as how WoR will be Shadesmar intensive, he just might give us this insight soon. -
Oh god, I can't specifically remember where, but I remember a quoted conversation someone posted, and they asked about the supposed 30 magic systems on Roshar, and said they knew of Voidbinding and Surgebinding, what is the last one? And he was all like 'The third system has something to do with Fabrials.' I know that is a terribly vague answer and I'm sorry, I'll look for it. But in the mean time, if anyone else can find it first, that'd be amazing.

Crap, I just realized that you have to be touching someone to give them your breath, so that wouldn't actually work... Maybe I'd just have like a weird setup in the audience, like have tables, and go table to table, making sure everyone is touching me. Regardless of how I did it, I would be such a scam artist, stealing all of the Breath. #16th Heightening.

Oo On the aspect of leveling up Voidbinding, Kaladin's Surgebinding skills leveled up a bit more with each of the Ideals. So maybe they all have those levels?

Congratulations, you can turn food into Stormlight! However, as a curse, not only can you not use it to Surgebind (You can still heal and move very fast, and have great strength and such), but you're now unable to comprehend the difference between bread and any form of technology beyond a flip-phone. I'd ask for the ability to Soulcast without a fabrial(aka, including a modern equivalent of the tridaily highstorms and gemstones) I can imagine leaving a basket of pennies outside on a sunny day to infuse them with Sunlight.
