With Ruin Beside Us Welcome back to Emperor Elend’s Luthadel. King Penrod has been growing more and more, irrational. Ordering people to fight each other for their daily bread. Speaking to the mists as if to Emperor Venture, rubbing his chest whenever he talks. The Physicians whisper of the attack, the inquisitor that tried to assassinate him. Whisper that he has recruited others to continue his foul work in the city. When the Government is broken and corrupt, The Citizens must rise up, as the Survivor has taught. But his Heir has warned of the servants of a darker God, the Spiked, who will try to destroy you all. But the Survivor does not expect you to do this on your own. He has gifted you all with power of the Mist, Allomancy. Use his gift to hunt down the Spiked. Welcome to MR20: With Ruin Beside Us. This is a standard Elimination game. Each cycle will be 48 hours long, and will have a lynch. Each player may use their role, or faction ability, every cycle. Possible Roles: Coinshot: Attack one player. Unprotected players are killed. Lurcher: Protect one player from one attack. Thug: You have an Extra Life. You can survive one attack, or one Lynch. Tineye: You can start PM’s with players. You have to be in the PM. Soother: Cancel a Player’s vote. Rioter: Double's a Vote Smoker: Seekers, Rioters, and soothers targeting you all fail. You can target yourself and one other. Seeker: If a Player took an Metallic action, you will learn what it is. Regular: You know whether or not this game is Role madness. ???: This Role is secret. What could it be? ###: Is this even a role? &%&: Am I just trolling you at this point? Alignments: Spiked: The Spiked will have a doc, and a faction kill. They win when all the citizens are dead. Citizenry: The Citizenry win when all the Spiked are dead. Miscellaneous rules: PM’s are closed, except for the Tineyes. Only Tineyes can start PM’s. No Pinch hitters or inactivity filter. Only the lynch reveals alignments I will not differentiate between Coinshot kills and Eliminator kills. I will neither confirm nor deny the existence of Secret roles, rules, factions, players, cycles, characters, moderatoers, or the treasure of the Count of Monte Cristo. All may or may not be in this game. The same rules, but with a bunch of Frequently asked questions added onto them: Anyway. I have a lot of free time. So when you sign up, please vote for when rollover should happen. It can happen any time between 4pm PST and midnight, PST. Also, to the newer players, who haven’t played a game with me as a GM. Ask an older player if you really want to. If the older player likes you, they’ll tell you no, Joe is a troll, and a bastard, who powers his laptop with the agony and hatred of his players. If they don’t like you, they’ll tell you to play. Wilson, did i forget to tell them anything? Quick Links:

Long Game 30: Journey Before Destination

And what if Liespren only cost 2 honour? Then when you spend all 4, 2 will be wasted anyway. -
Long Game 30: Journey Before Destination
Jo and the Bush replied to Amanuensis's topic in Sanderson Elimination
You're looking at this the wrong way Naihar. It's the classic prisoner's dilemma. Everyone can either choose to spend their honour, or to save their honour. If they spend their honour, and you don't, they will receive a spren, and you won't. If multiple people spend their honour on the same spren, and you save your honour, then you'll have even less of a chance to get that spren, as it will go to the next in line. The best option, which you might actually be doing without my knowledge, and I'm therefore ruining for you right now, is to convince everyone *else* to save their honour, while you spend it willy nilly. Actually. That's a good idea. Ignore everything i just send, and be sure to save your honour. Keep it wrapped up, like the man who saved his talents. Let the foolish waste their honour on spren that others are taking. -

Here's my list from greatest trust to greatest suspicions: Wonko Wilson Wyrm Stick Hero ---------------Would defend anyone above this line. But remember, confirmed good is not confirmed right! I am suspicious of two people above this line.--------- Drought Conquestor Assassin Stink - unkown role (I just learned i never PM'd him? oops.) ---------------Would Lynch anyone below this line. But remember, confirmed good is not confirmed right!--------- Seonid Gamma - unknown role Magestar - public claim of smoker Araris Jondesu Orlok - Unknown Role Elbereth - Less suspicious due to the bandwagoning on her, combined with her defenses. -public claim of roleless Sart Hemalurgic Headshot - public claim of thug. Everyone from Seonid to HH has claimed Thug, smoker, or roleless, or not claimed at all.- 1403 replies

Long Game 30: Journey Before Destination
Jo and the Bush replied to Amanuensis's topic in Sanderson Elimination
Jonly nodded along to the spren's words. Her thiughts on reflectionspren certainly matched his own, but he disagreed about Lie spren. Surely no one was as stupid as Sani had been, as to reveal all the digramosts in a supposedly secure message. Of course, reflectionspren would really be useufl if theuy could team up with an honour spren. -

Guys, in Elbereth's own words: "Confirmed good is not confirmed right." Just because I'm confirmed good does not mean you should follow my vote absolutely. Like hero said, that kills discussion. I'll post all my suspicions when I get home to my computer.- 1403 replies

Anniversary Game 3: The Curse of the Koloss
Jo and the Bush replied to Metacognition's topic in Sanderson Elimination
I'm voting for Elbereth. I had asked drought to kill her last night, because she was one of the few people who refused to reveal their role, for reasons of 'PM safety'. That, combined with her inactivity made her the best target I had. I'm also perfectly fine with lynching magestar, or really any of the smokers. We have far to many smokers for Arinian to have seeked so successfully.- 1403 replies

Long Game 30: Journey Before Destination
Jo and the Bush replied to Amanuensis's topic in Sanderson Elimination
There were only four people at this gala that interested Jonly. The Lord Bondsmith interested him in an almost academic sense. Jonly had met him once before, on the fields of slaughter, when he had been the Backthorn. The Dark First of Alethkar. The man who destroyed the highprinces almost singlehandedly. He had reveled in the slaughter, in warfare, in conquest. He had served Moelach with all his soul. A monster of the finest sort. But, somehow, he had renounced his vileness. He had separated himself from the darkness, yet remained strong. He was the first man Jonly had ever heard of to go so far in changing. No longer a monster, yet still strong. Redeemed, but still a Tyrant. Jonly would have to make certain it never happened again. Especially not to him. The second man of interest was the Wanderer. The Sand on the Wind. The Last of Wisdom. The Meddlesome. Hoid. Jonly had sparred with the man before, and had lost. If ever there was a monster greater than Jonly, it was him. His arrival had nearly convinced Jonly to flee. One did interact with a monster of that scale and come out unscathed. Hoid dragged chaos and destruction with him like the corpse of a child tied to a Noble’s carriage. But Jonly had to stay, and to learn. Teresh was of even more interest to Jonly. He had watched in delight as Sani revealed herself as a diagrammist to the ghostbloods, and had been even more entertained when she turned them all against themselves and united them all behind the Diagram. But, he had also watched Sani hang the man. And stab him in the neck for good measure. But here he stood, using a false name, and attempting to conceal his identity. How had he survived, and what plots were the ghostbloods laying now? They had their own Radiants to train. They had no need of learning from the Lord Bondsmith. So Uther was here for sinister purposes. Jonly would have to be certain to kill him early on, just to see if the man could die, or if he was one of those who had found a method of immortality, as Jonly himself had with Sani’s help. Blind Hithon was of much more interest, as he was actually unmade as of yet. He was craftable, teachable, breakable. When they had first met, the blind man had mentioned that he didn’t trust Jonly, because the darkness that terrified Hithon was attracted to him. The poor fool. There was no darkness that wasn’t a part of him. Hithon was afraid of himself. Afraid of what he saw in Jonly. Afraid he saw his own future. And he did. Jonly would make certain of that. The world needed Monsters. As Jonly observed the other initiates, he listened. They spoke of things they didn’t know, and sought to predict the future. They spoke of bonds, and orders, trying to guess which spren would bond with whom. The Spren would decide who they would bond with. All the Initiates could do was act in a way that might attract them. Idly, Jonly wondered which ones would be attracted to him. Highspren were right out. Jonly had no use for Law and Order. Honour spren would be useful, especially if he could find a Truthwatcher to work with. Though being the Truthwatcher would play more to his strengths, especially later on, when the Highspren begin to make bonds. Jonly had no love for those who worshipped Law and Order. Valorspren were useless, except to remove them from the game. Jonly had no wish to be killed by some idiot who fancied themself a monster hunter, and the spren themselves were too strict for Jonly’s tastes. On the other end of the spectrum, Cultivation spren were equally useless, except to keep out of the hands of those who needed to be killed for the greater good. Liespren would be equally useless. After all, Sani wasn’t an initiate. Heh. But Inkspren, They were a useful spren indeed. Transporting oneself with another lended itself to all sorts of interesting thoughts. Jonly saw no use for Adventure spren either. He could shape people to his will with his words. He needed no spren to do it for him, and having one would just attract the wrong sort of attention. And Trustspren. Jonly snorted at the thought. Him? Bond a trust spren? Never. If a man could not save himself, he did not deserve to live. So, Reflection, Honour, and Ink were the most useful spren to bond with. Jonly could do any of those, but which one? He would have to think more on that after he talked with the other initiates. -

You know what they say about assumptions. You make a corpse out of everyone.

I'm physically incapable of living shorter, longer or even the same amount of time. With that out of the way, can you at least give me a hint of where's the joke?
-
There's an old saying about assumptions that goes "You know what they say about assumptions: You make an chull out of U and ME" Because chull, U, and ME spells out Assume. This saying means that when you assumes something is true without evidence, you're often wrong, and mess everything up for everyone.
I took the first part of the saying: "You know what they say about assumptions: You make---" And then an extreme ending onto it. I set up an expectation for something slightly funny, but switched to gallows humour.
The joke comes from the juxtaposition of the lights amusement of the original phrase with the gallows humor or everyone dying because you messed up.
the emoji serves as punctuation and emphasis of the desired expression and emotion felt by the reader. a blank 'What' face, due to their confusion because of the bait and switch.
Twilight went further, playing off of another old joke. "That's what they say" is an old phrase. some people have made the 'They' into a joke. Who is the 'They'? Why do the 'They' say such things? That joke is simply in taking a metaphorical phrase literally. So twilight reacted literally to my metaphorical joke, extending the humour.
When you replied that you didn't get it, i replied with 'Good. You'll live longer' calling back to my original joke. Because you didn't assume what the joke was, you won't be one of the corpses of people who assume, like Twilight will be, if this joke was actually literal.

I still don't know why i was killed. That was probably the most frustrating bit of the game. Mage said it was because i asked him to move my PM with Drake. Is that the only reason? -

Long Game 30: Journey Before Destination
Jo and the Bush replied to Amanuensis's topic in Sanderson Elimination
The Monster lurked in the darkness. From corner to corner he skulked around. Always watching, always learning, never speaking, never staying. The Monster was among them, and of them. They had let the Monster into their midst, and the Monster was ready to learn and grow, and lie and destroy. Jonly was ready to do what must be done, to save the people that wanted salvation. Jonly was ready to destroy the wicked, who used their powers to subjugate and destroy. He knew full well the hypocrisy of his journey. But that was it. He knew himself. The victims never did. Jonly watched as one by one, Initiates entered the city. One by one, broken people accepted the call. One by one, they took up the mantle of Hero. One by one, they lied to themselves about their goals. Which ones would become the monster they had to be to save the world? Which ones would look at themselves, ask the hard questions, and give the wrong answer, the true answer. Jonly had asked himself the question on a mountain not unlike this one. His Question had been “Having taken the life of my family to save the world, do i join them to atone for their deaths?” The right answer had been yes. The right answer had been the coward’s answer. Jonly had said No. Suicide was not the path to atonement. There was none. The only thing left to do was to be the monster, to keep others from having to ask the hard questions. Sometimes it worked. Sometimes it did not. Sometimes he helped another monster on the path to acceptance. Sometimes he killed them. The Monster decided their fate. Jonly knew he would over hear a lot of hard questions from the other initiates in the coming weeks. Chief among them, “Why do I deserve this power?” That was the wrong question though. None of them deserved anything. No one deserved anything. People got what they got, through fortune and strife. Jonly looked hard at the other initiates. Smug Lomot, who called himself an honest man. Was he the thirteenth? Or was the Thirteenth yet to arrive? Araon Darkblade, so ignorant, yet so confident. The man was lying to himself about the hard Questions. He believed he could bull his way through them through sheer certainty. Gladium, solemn and pious, afraid of what he had to become. Afraid of what he had to do. Who worshiped in hatred. Kintas, the fifth initiate, a lie made flesh. Jonly didn’t know what the lie was. But he intended to find out what the creature hid. Ranatar, the most honest of them all. The man who saw the truth and the lies, and questioned them both. Sareth, who wrapped lies about his soul as a knight wraps his flesh in armor. Rea, who saw what he could be, and ran from it. Who hid his abilities even from himself. The Nameless man, who carried a mountain the size of a boulder. A man bitter and hateful. A man Jonly could grow to respect. Arinonium, who painted evil with pretty colours, and admired it as good. Hess, who hid from the world, and peeked out through a mask of laughter. Veriq, who doubted himself, who was afraid not of failing, but of succeeding. 12, including himself. 12 men, with broken souls filled with the blood of a god. 11 allies in the fight against power? Or 11 enemies to be brought low? And who was the thirteenth to come, the one who would bring the gods? Jonly watched, and waited. Disclaimer: Jonly's opinions are not shared by the author (Well, at least two of them are.) Any insults made by Jonly are made by him, and mean no ill will to the author of the work they are directed at. -
