What's the point of IRL friends if they haven't read the Cosmere?
I have schooled my friends on the Cosmere. My employees. Anybody who cares to listen. I don't want to lose my IRL friends, but I just want to help them, see?

Thankfully, I do have an IRL friend here in @skaa. We will party soon, my friend.

If you would recommend a Sanderson book to someone who has never read his work, what would it be and why?

Knowing Brandon, they're probably short-story length at least. I sincerely hope they're saving them to at some point release the 15-tome leather-bound Retail Unbounded: Transactions of Earth. Bet Isaac's milk bottle illustrations will blow our minds.
You're assuming Brandon is in charge of it. You have no idea how many men I saw in the grocery store during quarantine taking pictures of mundane canned goods like peas, while talking on the phone with their partner (i suppose), and say "I cannot find that brand! This is all they have. Will this do?" Oh poor boys.
Retail Unbounded! Nyahahahahahahahahaha!

Isaac would have supermarket lanes all mapped out, down to shelf intelligence.

I would read that man's shopping lists..
Someone should start a thread that asks, "what would Brandon's shopping lists contain?"
Also, you're welcome!

I have not! I know that I can request it here but still have to ask the google gods how to go about it. I'd appreciate any help!
Just post that you want it here. The admins will delete your post and include you in a PM with the copy of the book.

*nods firmly as she attempts to suppress fangirling at how cool you are*
I think that the people here are the coolest ones on the planet, and that my life was missing a very integral piece the last 6 years. I may have graduated with honors in the school of life, but I love learning and seeing how creativity just takes a life of its own in a place like this, where commonality and diversity exists side by side. It's frikkin fascinating.
On fangirling, I once asked someone that I admired, "how to be you?", and she said, "If you will be me, then who will be you?"

What businesses do you run, if I may ask?
In my lifetime, I've built, run and sometimes sold a total of 12 businesses.
Currently, one business works with schools to establish better engagement with students through the use of technology, primarily Google technologies and the other web apps that play well with it.
The other one is an online art gallery which aims to help artists sell their art - both original work and limited edition prints - to a wider market that is not reached by traditional galleries.
It's fun.

Rated this before as a 9 because of phoenixes. Lowering to an 8.5 because it's starting to look like a green Rorschach inkblot.

Oh wow! Happy birthday! Hope it was a wonderful day.
I recently finished a delicious 15y Dalwhinnie, and your mention of the Laphroig is an excellent suggestion for my next purchase. When I do, rest assured I shall cheer to you.
It was EPIC. For a quarantined birthday party, my friends were able to throw quite a surprise, complete with a sweet sweet sound board. And a pool party the next morning to try and wash away the after effects of the night before.
Ooooh, that is classic whisky, quite delicate and has that very slight sweetish note that reminds of an Auchentoshan 18yr. When you buy your Laphroaig, you get this certificate for a plot of land and if you visit it one day, you get a dram of whisky as "rent". I've been collecting my little certificates and I imagine that my plot of land rests next to Sean Connery's.
Have you taken that quiz? I always wished I could Elsecall, but apparently my values determine me as a Windrunner. Ha, fancy that.
I will protect even those I hate, even if they drink blended whisky.1 -

I think that's the problem! I got my feet so wet I ended up waddling into a perpendicularity

I am indeed a single malt kind of girl: smoky and Scottish are my weakness.
Yayy! You're officially on my party list. I have a love affair with Laphroaig Quarter Cask. I don't really drink much, but if you put down even just a shot of this in front of me, I'm gone. Elsecalled to my little plot of Laphroaig land.
The idea of anyone waddling into perpendicularity is the funniest thing I've heard all day. EDIT: Upvote for you!
And I just came back from my own birthday party. Needless to say, they won't get this.0 -

I was a fool. I am positively deep in the rabbit hole and wanted to participate in the discussion, theorize and honestly be able to talk to people who have the same interest. Particularly now, as RoW and the novella approach.... the hype is real and I definitely want to be here for that!
Once you get your feet wet, there's no stopping you. This is a very very deep rabbit hole.
I checked your profile, and I must say demmm girl, love the contrast of Pokemon/Cosmere and whisky/classic Rock *giggle. Single Malt, I hope? I'm a scotch snob. I cross blended whisky drinkers off my party list.

Hey All, I remember creating this 6 years ago and I'm happy someone took up the mantle. I left it with @Aether but I think he stopped moderating it too.
Just want to say thank you to @Young Bard for copying this and adding more to it. Let me know if you need any help.

Rishi shivered against the cold damp wall at the back of an old restaurant that closed years ago.
She knew that this all started because she believed that beguiling man. A colossal mistake. She waited for a person to pass by and notice her. One did.

Does that mean your name’s Mary?
Do you have any pets?
Do you want any pets?
I just got back from an epic birthday party. Yes we social distanced. But it was still sweet. Started with some pretty great sounds and food and ended up in a pool party the morning after - all of us still a little buzzed from the night before.
--
Yes, my name's Mary. I don't have any pets, although I grew up in a house with 7 dogs and 2 cats (both of them black.)
I think I'd like to have a cat right now. My issue is that I live alone and during pre-COVID, I traveled frequently for long periods of time on business. I try to stop myself from having a pet if I can't make sure that my basil plants will thrive. They're almost always dead by the time I get back.

So many that if one went missing, no one is likely to notice for a while. My question is, may I borrow an island for the weekend? Pleeeeeeeease?
We have 7,641 islands. I don't think anyone will notice if you decide to go all Survivor or Castaway and comandeer one of them.
I've gone on weekends where I just have food and company and we stay in an island overnight. The boat just comes back for us by Sunday afternoon and we're all ready for the coming workweek again.

What time of the day were you born at (morning, night, etc)?
Do you think the time of day you were born at affects your character?
Do you play mtg (if not then you should)?
If the probability of event A is 1/3 and the probability of event B is 1/2, what is the probability of A or B occurring (but not both)?
How do you end parenthesis with smiley faces in a way that doesn't look weird (like I try to do here :))?
Do you have any pets?
I'm a very in-the-moment kind of person. I don't dwell on the past nor hypothesize too much on what can happen to me in the future, so I probably will say no to the offer to time travel one-way. If I could come back, it would be a different story. I'd love to see the past and observe the Renaissance, but the lack of modern medicine, modern bathrooms and dentists, completely put me off wanting to live there for good.
--
I was born at 9:10 AM. Many people say that it affects my character - both in Western and Eastern zodiacs. If you're curious, I'm a Gemini born in the Year of the Fire Snake.
--
I'm quite old, more than double the age of some of the people here. But yes, I used to play MTG a long time ago when I was a teenager. Not anymore though. I run two businesses and I just don't have the time anymore.
--
Are you trying to make me answer your conditional probability assignment for you? Because I won't do that. If you need a reference, check Khan's Academy for help.
--
You don't end parenthesis with a smiley face that you type out. You click on the emoji and insert that intead.

See above answer to @AonEne for my answer re: pets.

Lately I've been going crazy with my syrup experiments. I hate maple syrup with a vengeance. Sooo I went on a quest to find a different syrup I can stomach.
Orange syrup so far tops the list. I eat this with a small scoop of butter and fruit slices on the side. Really plain, except that orange syrup gives it that amazing kick.
