This is a nice theory but I don't think the highstorms are caused by a natural process. The stormfather chose to send one early which he couldn't have done if they were dependent on moon position (unless he moved the moons which I don't think he is capable of). Considering that he is part of the highstorm, I think they are mainly dependent on the investiture he puts into them and where he is.

I really like this theory, but I see a hole in it. The names of the shards are based upon the primary personality trait that the shard pushes on the shard holder. How would you describe someone's personality whose primary personality trait was being regionish. Racist? =) Except racist implies that I have a region/society that I identify with and I look down on people outside of it. Whereas Dominion (by this theory) is more inclusive of all the regions. I just don't see how a personality can focus on the trait of dominions. Any thoughts?

Where do burned metals go? Are they transformed into energy without mass? Do they break apart when burned but then coalesce and exit the body via the normal exiting process? Is it possible to deplete a world of it's metals by continuous allomantic activity over a long time-span? This reminds me of a planet in the Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy where the tourist population is so large that you are weighed upon arrival and before departure so the difference can be surgically removed from you to prevent the planet from disappearing. =)

I guess we don't know enough about the shattering to say that couldn't happen, but I always just imagined it being similar to a transfer of power like we've seen. Maybe the force of the shattering happened in multiple realms and caused the shards to end up in different places in all three realms.

Adonalsium being on Roshar doesn't count as a fourth shard because he isn't a shard. However, if he had shattered there then there would have been more than 3 shards on Roshar. Ergo, he did not shatter on Roshar.

I like this, but it does seem like the heralds have already shattered their "true bonds". And that begs the question, if you become more like the ideal associated with the herald whose blade you hold, does your bond increase with that honorblade? And if so, would Szeth have been far more powerful if he had held the sword of the Skybreaker herald?

Back to the original question: If a surgebinder was using multiple surges then they would burn through stormlight faster. It isn't like there are separate sources which can each be ingested. There's a limit (it seems) to the amount of stormlight you can take in, and if you have to share that with multiple surges you'll run out much faster. Not that it couldn't happen that way, but it's a limitation to think of.

I've always wondered if all epics are gifters but just choose not to gift. I mean, what about being psychotic makes you want to give your powers to someone else? It just seems like we've got a lot of unwilling test subjects and so we can't prove a negative (like some of them can't gift). Do we even have any evidence other than David's word that there are epics that can't gift?

I wonder what Lifts stormlight conversion rate is. IE, if Lift has stormlight, then fills an emerald with it, then it is used to soulcast food, then she eats the food, how much light does she have left? a = start Stormlight b = efficiency of transferring stormlight to gem c = efficiency of stormlight converting rocks into food d = efficiency of conversion of food to stormlight e = end stormlight e = a*b*c*d Lift conversion cycle efficiency = e/a = b*c*d So how good is she?

Theory: Maybe the shadowblaze and the forgotten are two halves to an original piece. They kind of fit the light and dark, good and evil, chalk and charcoal meme. (Am I thinking of The Dark Crystal too much?) That would mean there were an even number of shadowblazes and forgotten. Then, like Ruin vs Preservation, they are opposing each other and trying to captivate the other. It's possible that the ancient american people were the ones to first separate them.

I like this idea, but I'm not sure it's supported by the text. Also, is the Nahel bond of Honor? It seems to be more of the spren since they made it up in response to the heralds.
