If pure Investiture seeks out a cognative form, why haven't the mists and their forms (lerasium, Well liquid) done this? Why havn't the highstorms (which are similar to the mists acording to WoB) done this? I certainly think that Splinters always seek out a Cognitive form, but not all unbound investiture does so.

Theory: Aluminum changes the Spiritual Aspects of metals
Elementalist replied to Elementalist's topic in Cosmere Discussion
Metal poisoning would still be an issue, and there's no evidence to support that they're transmuted at all. I realize there's no evidence that they would be destroyed, either, but let's look at this from Mr. Sanderson's prespective. Random and unnessesary transmutations seem out of place in Mr. Sanderson's well-organized and well-thought out magic systems. It's just too unnessesarily complicated. On the Soulstamps- I had always thought of soulstamps as making the object think its past was different. As we know from Soulcasting in WoK, an object's Cognative idea of itself directly affects its Physical form. The difference from Soulcasting is that Soulstamps "convince" the object that it is different, wheras Soulcasting uses Stormlight to "bludgen/brainwash/bribe" the object. The result is that Soulstamps have to be more plausable, whereas Soulcasting has a much wider range of transmutations. Edit: Grammer. Edit 2: Bad use of idioms.- 13 replies

Theory: Investiture only exists in the Spiritual Realm
Elementalist replied to Elementalist's topic in Cosmere Discussion
Thanks!EDIT: Found a word of Brandon that may or may not have influence on this theory: This is the last straw condemning my original theory, but I don't think it contradicts my second theory- that the Investiture of an Invested object is a part of the spiritual aspect of that object. Still, it's food for thought.- 23 replies

Theory: Aluminum changes the Spiritual Aspects of metals
Elementalist replied to Elementalist's topic in Cosmere Discussion
Yes, according to Mistborn: TFE aluminum does destroy itself. It's different from duralumin in this way. Also, I just think we should stick with the established terminology: Spiritweb for creatures and sDNA; Spiritual aspect for objects. Like I said, it's a matter of semantics.According to US toxicology reports, aluminum is highly harmful. If other metals were transmuted into aluminum, the burner would get sick from metal poisoning, but this is not the case. Therefore, the metals are not being transmuted- or at least, not being transmuted into aluminum, and it doesn't make sense that they would be transmuted into other metals. Plus, see my previous post for information on the Realmatics of transmutations. EDIT: I really like your theory on Lerasium, but keep in mind that making the burner a Mistborn is only a side affect according to the Coppermind. If a Mistborn were to burn it, it would have an unknown effect that may or may not affect the Spiritweb. It would most likely just give you the same "infinite allomancy" that burning the mists gave Vin, as Lerasium is the condensed form of mists. EDIT 2: Spelling.- 13 replies

Aluminum is weird. I think we can all agree on this. Anyways, remember that most aluminum alloys are unburnable according to WoA. In it Vin tests multiple bad alloys of aluminum to try to find its complement, and none of them did anything but make her sick. According to Wax: Or something like that. Entirely new metals may share some properties with aluminum, like being anti-allomantic, but this doesn't mean they'll have the same Allomantic and Feruchemical properties.EDIT: I think some people get confused by Kelsier's statement that you can sometimes get a bit of power from a bad alloy. My belief is that he was referring to bad proportions in an alloy. He didn't mean that you could get a bit of power from an alloy made with the wrong metal, or from using an alloy when the Allomantic metal is supposed to be pure. EDIT 2: Spelling.

I personally think associating Elendel with AonDor is pushing it. I think it's made the way it is because Sazed thought it would look cool and be organizationally easiest for its residents.

No kidding!

Resonance or frequency sounds good to me. Ties into sound, which has been discussed as a possible focus on Roshar (dawnsingers, a clear sound when soulcasting, humming helps soulcasting). Also ties into waveform conspiracy theories which make my brain ooze out my ears but I'm sure make sense to people much smarter than me. =)

As far as I know, there is no "Aon Aon" (the base point for all Aons) in the design of Elendel. Of course, it being a different Shardworld, perhaps the base Aon would be different. Maybe instead of mirroring the landscape, it would mirror locations of metal deposits or something.

Theory: Aluminum changes the Spiritual Aspects of metals
Elementalist replied to Elementalist's topic in Cosmere Discussion
If we take the hint that the Spiritweb is related to the Spiritual realm, I doubt it could be used for transmuting. The only confirmed instances of transmutation we've seen are Soulcastings, which rely on the Cognative realm. Of course, we don't know enough about the Spiritual realm to truly understand everything it can do, but I believe Mr. Sanderson wouldn't have added the same mechanic to two distinct realms. It seems redundant to me.Also, do objects have a Spiritweb? I always thought that they only had Spiritual aspects, and the Spiritweb and sDNA are only a part of living things. I realize that this is a matter of semantics- you could say that the Spiritweb is the collection of a living thing's Spiritual aspects- but the word Spiritweb implies bind points, which I doubt objects have.- 13 replies

I don't care if this theory was partially debunked; it shall always remain a part of my personal head-canon.

Theory: Aluminum changes the Spiritual Aspects of metals
Elementalist replied to Elementalist's topic in Cosmere Discussion
That's a great quote; I wish I had found it. It establishes a direct connection between Aluminum and Investiture. It doesn't discuss Chromium, so I hold to my belief that with enough power you could affect more than bodies. Chromium savantry likely wouldn't be enough, however. You would probably need an enhancement metal or Hemalurgic enhancement.- 13 replies

Theory: Investiture only exists in the Spiritual Realm
Elementalist replied to Elementalist's topic in Cosmere Discussion
I fear a RAFO on a question that direct.EDIT: Sevi found this quote, which is interesting: This says, cleansing the spirit of unwanted effects of other investitures.. It directly connects the Investiture invested in a human with the spirit, which likely means the Spiritual aspect of the burner. This doesn't prove my point, of course, but I thought I should share it anyways. It definitely has some relevance in regards to this theory.- 23 replies

Theory: Investiture only exists in the Spiritual Realm
Elementalist replied to Elementalist's topic in Cosmere Discussion
I suppose you're right, we don't have enough information to make a final decision. Someone should try to ask Mr. Sanderson about this; it would certainly shed more light on the mysterious Spiritual realm. Maybe someone should ask, "Does an Invested object think of itself as being Invested?"- 23 replies

Theory: Investiture only exists in the Spiritual Realm
Elementalist replied to Elementalist's topic in Cosmere Discussion
Whether or not it is cognitively different is not what I'm trying to prove; I apologize for going off topic. What I'm saying is that the Investiture Invested in the iron is not a Cognitive aspect of that Iron; it is a Spiritual aspect. However, on the subject of how an object views itself, I always thought that that was only related to the "boundaries" of the object- like if you were to Soulcast a table from wood to jade, it wouldn't Soulcast the wooden floor under the table as well. I didn't think it was related to the energy contained in the object. Maybe that's just me.- 23 replies

Theory: Investiture only exists in the Spiritual Realm
Elementalist replied to Elementalist's topic in Cosmere Discussion
The thing about Atium/Lerasium is that rather than being Invested, like the rest of the metals, the God Metals are Investiture. They are the solid form of Preservation's Investiture. I've changed my mind from my original theory; I don't believe all Investiture exists in the Spiritual realm. Instead, I now believe that Investiture is a spiritual aspect of a mundane object. However, pure Shardic investiture like the mists or the God Metals makes its own object around it, and therefore is governed by separate principles than an ordinary Invested object.- 23 replies

Theory: Investiture only exists in the Spiritual Realm
Elementalist replied to Elementalist's topic in Cosmere Discussion
Found this on theorland: It's the closes I can get to what I'm trying to say. Perhaps they're not identical in that realm, then. Good reasoning. However, I don't think that a different origin memory would result in Rosharian metals being unburnable. I hold to the theory that it is a spiritual aspect unique to Scadrian metals, and that that aspect is Preservation's Investiture. Although you are in the cognitive realm when you add the Investiture, that doesn't mean that investiture is a cognitive aspect. Also, investiture doesn't fall under any of the 10 soulcasting categories in my opinion. I'm not saying it is the spiritual aspect, I'm saying it is a spiritual aspect. I hadn't considered the fire and light. Perhaps our soulcasting arguments should go on another thread, "The Nature of Soulcasting" or something. Also, what does it mean to doublepost?- 23 replies

Theory: Investiture only exists in the Spiritual Realm
Elementalist replied to Elementalist's topic in Cosmere Discussion
Iron might view itself as access to investiture (Preservation's investiture) but that's not the same as viewing itself as having investiture. I don't personally believe that Scadrian iron even views itself as being access to investiture; I think that it is access due to the small amount of Preservation's investiture it already has.- 23 replies

I think that it was cleverness on Odium's part that allowed him to separate those shards, not an overall greater power level. I don't think Shards can only fight if their Intents are opposite (although I could be wrong). I think there were other circumstances involved that prevented Honor from choosing to fight Odium.

Theory: Investiture only exists in the Spiritual Realm
Elementalist replied to Elementalist's topic in Cosmere Discussion
That's part of my point. There is WoB that only Scadrian metals could be used for Hemalurgy, at least. The only difference that we know of between Scadrian metals and other metals is that Scadrian metals are Invested by Ruin and Preservation. I'm trying to prove that this difference is not a Physical or Cognitive one, but a Spiritual one. Proving that would by extension prove that Investiture in objects is a Spiritual aspect of said objects.- 23 replies

Theory: Investiture only exists in the Spiritual Realm
Elementalist replied to Elementalist's topic in Cosmere Discussion
Scadrian iron wouldn't have a different cognitive aspect than Nalthian; that's one of my points. Despite the fact that everything on Scadrial is invested according to HoA, it thinks of itself the same. The investiture does not change its cognitive aspect. I disagree. Why should Preservation's investiture be any different from Investiture from another shard? They all came from the same place. However, you're right about the mists. Perhaps a better way to phrase my theory is that Investiture is a Spiritual aspect of an object, and gains its own Physical form when it manifests in Pure form. You forget, Soulcasting is limited to the Ten Essences. Investiture isn't one of those essences.- 23 replies

Shardlet is right that the Well did not contain a part of Ruin, and Darnam is right that my basic point is still the same. You've each proved your points. I'm sorry that there was confusion, I should have stated my original post better.
