  1. I kind of hate Daredevils sidekick. Mostly because I remember early speculation that the shadowed bo staff wielding dude was Gambit, and seeing Daredevil paired up with him wold have been hilarious. But I know nothing about not!Gambit, beyind him not beibg Gambit, so...
  2. Don't ask questions! I mean, Bendis only had exclusive use of Havok for months before Secret Wars, you expect him to wrap up every plot point? (Or...any plot points. Wrapping up any plots would also have been good.) Honestly, no idea. Janet also had a daughter with Havok who has been abducted by Kang the Conqueror, but that hasn't been mentioned since either. See,Marvel's last event, Secret War, kind of...broke everything. Literally, the entite multiverse died. ReedRichards of the Fantastic Four fixed it, then Marvel jumped ahead 8 months in universe. So, presumably, during that 8 month gap, stuff happened and DON'T ASK QUESTIONS. So... Janet is full size now, I guess. (Also Miles Morales is now 616, Peter Parker is Tony Stark and Wolverine is a girl, and she is awesome.) If yiu like Black Widow, I'd check out her current ongoing series, by Mark Waid. I haven't read it yet but I hear phenomenal things about it.
  3. She does now! Sort of. She's been introduced as the All New Wasp, though she isn't related to Janet; she's the daughter of Hank's first wife. She died waaay back -like, the 60's?- but it was recently revealed that she was secretly pregnant. I think Hope might have been abducted and raised as part of the Red Room project, the same Russian project that Natasha went through, but I might be wrong on that point. Point is, through the magic of movie synergy, Hope now exists! (If you're curious, Janet is still alive. She was turned evil by the Red Skull, then un-evilled, then her still-evil mutant boyfriend Havok shrunk her down, put her in his pocket and ran away. Then she showed up again and no one is talking about what Havok did. At all. Because that plot point was dumb, and talking about ehat Havok did wastes page time when we could be talking about WHAT CYCLOPS DID without actually tellibg us what he did...)
  4. That's fair. Hope was a pretty cool character. So...here's hoping. And sorryfor rambling about comic stuff everyone.
  5. Surely Natasha/Steve is a thing after Winter Soldier? But yeah. Sharon is so poorly done in the movies; it feels like a really forced way to give Steve a romantic interest, and it just doesn't work. Actually, do any of the pairings in the Movieverse work? I thought Thor wasn't put together right. But I liked Jane...though it sounds like Natalie Portman is uninterested in comibg back. Pepper Potts?
  6. My Elhokar theory is based mostly on metatheorising, philosophising, and trying to outtwist Brandon. So, at the moment, it seem's there are three lead candidates for 'Honors Champion'; Kaladin (main character), Dalinar (bonding the Stormfather implicitly ties him with Honor), and Adolin (his duelling skills chekov gun). And those three are more likely, sure...which is why Elhokar would be so unexpected. We're introduced to Elhokar in less than flattering terms; in fact, throughout the books, he doesn't make the best impression. He's paranoid; he's needy; he's petty. He doesn't have the strength of personality, the authority or will, to command his subjects loyalties. At the end of WoR he ends up being force fed like a child, after being completely drunk and helpless. He's kind of pathetic. Which is why he should be Honors Champion. Because the ending of WoR has such a major arc for him; he admitshe is terrible, and he wants to be better. The question of leadership abounds in the Stormlight Archive. Knight Radiants are leaders of squires; leadership is one of the roles of the Windruners; Dalinar is commanded to lead them. The first book is named for a treatsie on the morals and mores a king should adopt, the way they should act. I would just find it very satisfying if Elhokars plea to be taught to be better wasn't the alcohol talking; if he has had an epiphany and set's about becoming a better peson. He doesn't have to become a Radiant; he just has to become a proper king, the kind of man who will protect those beneath him, the kind if person who is worthy of respect. If Adolin has the potential to be a better Dalinar, Elhokar should have the potential to be a better Gavilar...and I really like the idea of this character, the source of so much mockery and scorn, whose only action scene so far was to fuel his own ego in a wastefully capricious Greatshell Hunt, becoming the Champion of Honor a very satisfying prospect. Elhokar has already attracted Gloryspren before, for selfish reasons; why not do it again for selfless one? Kaladin believed his role as leadership of Bring Four means protecting all his men. If Elhokar is a king, what greatest purposefully -what higher Honor?- can he aspire to than to protect all the men beneath his rule all of Alethkar, as their Champion? Alethkar was found as the nation if warrior. Why shouldn't their king be the one to representing that? (Also, the idea of rereading the series and knowing that one of the great heroes of the books is often so undignified would be kind of fun and interesting, I think.)
  7. So... I'm debating whether or not to give online dating a shot? Partly for the practicality. I barely have any free time these days; meeting, and being able to talk to, someone online first would fit into my schedule a lot easier than -gasp, shock- socializing would. Just...yeah. Wondering if it's a good idea or not.
  8. Not to mention that just because they say they are House Venture doesn't mean they are descended from House Venture. Geneology is a ridiculous complicated concept. It might be that some minor family saw they had Venture blood in them from a while back, and decided to approrpiate and go by that name, since being related to Elend "The Last Emperor" Venture is more impressive socially than being related to Some Dude. Brandon doesn't give us a lot of information on that kind of political backbiting, geneology and noble family trees in the books, so... I'd say there are a lot of potential ways that a House Venture could have survived or been reborn. Unless we get WoB on the subject, I'd just invent a reason and roll with that. There's enough precedent for it in our real-world history.
  9. Hah. I remember that story. ... I haven't been on fimfiction in months. I still need to reset the password on my account, and I haven't had time because of work. Damnation.
  10. Probably the first volume. I don't think libraries stock floppies. (Mine doesn't, anyway. If they did, my bank would be better inflated than it is right now). On which note, you might be itnerested in Gotham Academy. It's a really fun series.
  11. Random funny thing I just read:
  12. Serious question, do you think Rita Skeeter wouldn'twork for muggles directly? Because I can totally see it happening. Her animagus trick was so good it lasted years in the wizarding world. Imagine how lobg she would get away with it in the muggle press. Frankly, I'd almost be more surprised if she didn't have a sidejob doibg muggle tabloids.
  13. Or; why are the Shard and Honorblades confined to Roshar? Granted, this might just be because we haven't seen them off-world yet... but I can't help but think that Shardblades and Honorblades are sort of obscenly powerful. I mean, sure, if a normal sword hits you in any of the places a Shardblade does, it's going to cause serious damage... but Shardblades have the added bonus of being able to cut through anything, and being very difficult to block. So... how is it that they don't appear to have left Roshar? Is it possible there are worldhopper shardbearers foating around, and we just haven't seen them yet? Or could it be a case of the various, Cosmere-aware powers agreeing that Shardblades are too destructive to be taken off Roshar (a world which, frankly, even it's inhabitants have written off as somewhat apocalyptic) and imported to worlds which are in less danger.
  14. One step closer to Gary status.
  15. Again; I was a lot younger, and a lot less secure. The fact that my brother was kind of derisive about the fact that I liked playing female characters in video games, and my own self-conciousness made me sort of embarrassed. Irrational, but, eh. That's teen years for you.
  16. I'm actually not sure if I like the diea of Rapunzel as a monster... mostly because I think she works so much better as a victim. After all, her entire life is one tragedy after another; she get's bartered away as a child; she get's locked in a tower for her adult life; she get's seduced by a prince, probably not really understanding what that means. (One version of the story has her out her relationship to the witch by accident because she doesn't understand what pregnancy is. That is the level of education she recieved) Rapunzel is a horrifyingly tragic character. That could work as a monster, but... not the direction I'd go with her. Also, I kind of had an idea for a queer, Game of Thrones take on Sleeping Beauty.
  17. I remember, back when I was considering picking up Mistborn, one review described the fight sequences as very anime-like. I'm not quite sure if I follow with that... but some of Brandon's characterization does strike me as not being unlike anime in certain respects. The reason I ask this now is because... I was just suddenly thinking about the Cosmere, and about how important perception is to magic in the world. Specifically, I was thinking of this line of Brandon's from an interview: And... it kind of made me start to think, that that sounds a little like a certain anime shonen trope; where the characters, seemingly defeated, are able to push themselves back up for one more go around, where they suddenly are much more powerful than before. And, yes, those instances are usually tied in to characters reaching some sort of a change of perception regarding themselves, or how their powers work -see the likes of Ryuko from Kill la Kill, or Simon from Gurren Lagann. Or, if it isn't based upon that shift of persepctive, it's driven by sheer determination; whenever I think of Kelsier's speech to the Lord Ruler about being Hope, my mind flashes back to my childhood, which Goku declaring himself the same thing to Freiza. I get that those aren't tropes specific to anime; Kelsier's declaration would also fit pretty well into the superhero mythos, for instance. But there is a vibrancy to the Cosmere which, I think, makes me drift more towards the anime scale when it comes to influences. I was just wondering if anyone else had the same thought.
  18. Personally, I have a theory that Elhokar could be positioned as Honors Champion. Kind of a crazy meta, so, I'll leave it there unless people are interested.
  19. You know, when I started posting here, 'Warbreaker is Best Cosmere' was a minority opinion; everyone seemed to vote for Mistborn of Way of Kings in that regards. I've held Warbreaker as Best Cosmere from day one, so. I get hipster cred.
  20. When I think of the end of the world, whether that means Final Desolation or Ruin on Scadrial, there is one song that always, always, always comes to mind. (And, what the hey. Instrumental version too, why not.)
  21. ...Edgedancer quoted a reply from Twilyght, dated an hour ago, responding to something I posted 11 minutes ago... WE HAVE CROSSED INTO STRAIGHT UP EUCLEDIAN GEOMETRIES, GUYS.
