Long Game 2: The Devil's Den
Metacognition replied to Metacognition's topic in Sanderson Elimination
The Inquisitor needs to use the body of a dead Misting that was killed within a cycle ago. So they couldn't use one from Day 1 anymore, if there had been a Misting death on that day. They will be able to use Weiry and any Misting that died today, but they can only convert once during the night turn. So, lets say you guys accidentally kill a Smoker. The Inquisitor would have to choose between them and they wouldn't be able to use the power from the other one (due to the next day turn happening before they'd get another chance to convert someone). UnSnapped players are not revealed within the write up. The only way to find the Unsnapped is via Seeker or them snapping. Thus, the Inquisitor cannot use an Unsnapped player to fuel conversions.- 1232 replies

As stated in the game thread, I have an idea for a new role. I don't have a way for it to fit into games yet and it needs to be balanced out a bit, but here's the start: Proxy - You're hiding behind someone else, who is acting in your place. It's a good thing too, with all this murder going on around you. If you are targeted for death, your proxy dies in your place. This also keeps you from being scanned, as they will scan the proxy first, which will register as a Regular _____. When your proxy dies, it will be revealed in the write up. It's basically a Thug mixed with a Smoker without the Smokers additional powers. In my opinion, that's a little too powerful on it's own, so we need something to balance it out. The only thing I can think of offhand is a 25% chance that the proxy won't do what you want or that you can't use any other roles you might have until your proxy is dead (like if you're a Seeker as well, but you can't seek until after your proxy is gone). Maybe both and make it an additional role to add onto another role? It'd be a neat way to hide additional roles in a game.

Long Game 2: The Devil's Den

As everyone argues back and forth, the hours seem to fly by. Just as the sun is a fiery red ball on the horizon, something strange happens. Rather than continue to fall, the sun stops in the sky and... seems to be reversing? The mists start to come out, only to realize that it is still daytime. "What the he-" they seem to say before poofing out of existence. The sun reaches its zenith in the sky and hangs there for a moment before returning to its trek across the sky towards dusk. It's too bad the Crew didn't see any of it, for they would've been amazed. Unfortunately, they were too engrossed in their debate. The Day has been extended by 12 hours. You now have 13 and 1/2 hours before the end of the day. Edit: By the way guys, we already have more pages in this game than we did for the entirety of the first game and it's only day 2! That alone blew my mind.- 1232 replies

While yes I am, there's no way I couldn't lump the two together. If I allowed such things, then it would effectively give Quiver Thug-like abilities and soon we'd have everyone working through at least one proxy, if not more! On another note, this is an acceptable means of changing your vote. As I go through the posts to record votes, I would've hit Wes's first vote and recorded it. Then I would get to this one, realize that he's retracted the vote I have recorded and voted for someone else. If there's been a lot of talking since your last post, I don't want to force you guys to have to go back through multiple pages to find your last vote.- 1232 replies

I'm counting it, due to how Quiver is playing his character (which is very interesting and fun btw). A vote for Lord Ollivier or Quillion will count as a vote for the same character considering that is how Quiver himself is playing it.- 1232 replies

I've been thinking about the Kandra as well. Evidently, everyone loves the idea of them for this type of game! What I'd probably do with them is make them a one of or two of in a game with their own victory condition: to survive. I'm not even sure I'd put them in the OP as viable players, so that no one else suspects them at first. The game doesn't end until all the evil faction and the Kandra are dead and the Kandra don't win unless everyone else is dead. Because of this, they'd get special treatment. They'd be immune to every form of allomancy (if they are killed once, they are labeled as a thug in the write up), except for emotional allomancy and even then, the allomantic use is different. A Rioter or Soother could either affect someone's vote, or flare their metals on someone and see if they are a Kandra. This means that, even though there are two roles that could search them out, if those roles do that, then they can't affect the voting. As far as their blessings go, I don't know yet. If you base them on some of the powers already in the game, I don't think that they'd be too overpowered?

I didn't mean to imply that it didn't exist, just that numbers be crazy, yo. It's like the whole 1 = 0.99999999.... debate and ℮^iπ+1=0, if you look for it, numbers do some amazing things. I didn't mean crazy as in, 'this is ludicrous and fictional.' I meant it more as, 'Holy cow! How does that even work?' (and then your brain explodes) I actually enjoy math, I was already aware of its use in string theory like that, so sorry you got the impression I was dismissing it.

Long Game 2: The Devil's Den

Day 2 (Making up for Lost Time) Ffnord was shaken. Typically, poisonings were very much a part of his world. It was a quiet, subtle thing, much like himself. It seemed as if everything was being turned on its head. Between the gruesome way Modeft was killed and the blatant disregard for the stealthiness of the poisoning, Ffnord felt far too exposed in this crew. So it wasn’t surprising that after his initial, and incredibly unusual for him, outburst, he found himself trying to find somewhere he could be alone. It wasn’t even that he disliked people; he was just so used to being ignored that he was now comfortable in his own thoughts. While some of the crew reveled in a twisted form of defiance, Ffnord just wanted peace and quiet. This entire crew was far more garish and loud than he was used to and it seemed like some of their behavior was rubbing off on him. He needed to get back to the familiar. He was sure he’d be able to figure this entire situation out if he could just get some silence. He found plenty of that in the mists. As he expected, the silence seemed to help him think. The entire world was changing around him. From major events like the Lord Ruler’s death, to the minor things, like the tiny movement of that shadow near the top of the Harrows. Perhaps he could use that. The crew might be exuberant, but what if he started looking for littler cues? Something as small as a small twitch very well could give them away. Yes, this was the path he’d take. While Peng and the others moved about obviously, Ffnord could put his training to use and find the killer that way. “Wait,” thought Ffnord stopping in startlement. “The tiny movement?” Ffnord spun towards where it had been, but it was too dark, the shadows concealing anything that might be hidden there. Suddenly, a glint of metal shot out of the shadows, appearing as if the darkness itself had spit it out. It took Ffnord directly in the neck and he didn’t have time to cry out. He fell to his knees, strangely calm. Everything had gotten too loud. This wasn’t his world anymore. His final thoughts were, “At least they were silent about it.” --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- One wouldn’t think that the Harrows would be have anyone to sweep up the ash. The more chaotic ranks of society didn’t typically get a name as the most clean bunch. Even so, without people like Lam, the canals would likely be filled to the brim with ash. Besides, cleaning up the ash came with a few unique opportunities. Opportunities like the one he had tonight. Within the huge piles of ash that were carted and shoved out of the city, it was a simple thing to hide a body or two inside for easy removal and it was a nice supplement to his income. Lam liked to use a cart for those times in which he needed to get rid of a body as well. It made it far easier to get it outside the walls without being noticed. Just pile up the ash high enough and anyone looking for it would have to dig deep to find the body. It may make the job a bit easier, but it was still backbreaking work. When Aspren had given him Modeft’s body to dispose of, it had still been early afternoon. It was well into the night before he finished up. He’d needed a very large pile this time. For one, it wouldn’t do to have anyone discover Modeft’s body. If someone could recognize from the wounds how he had been killed, they would all be in trouble. Throwing one last shovel-full of ash into the cart, Lam wiped his face. It was stained black from the sweat and ash, but it was done. He could haul this load out and probably still make it back in time for a drink. He was just about to put the shovel back up when it came to life in his hands, the metal blade swinging straight for his head. Lam yelped and tried to force it back, but whatever was pushing on it was too strong. The best he could do is turn the blade so instead of chopping through his head, it smacked him with the flat end. The blow knocked him off his feet. The second blow, of his head hitting the street, knocked him out. A figure stepped out of the mists. It was vaguely human in shape, but it seemed to have tendrils rippling all over its body. Without a word, the figure picked Lam up as if handling a child and shoved him into the ash pile until Lam disappeared from site. Lam would never wake up. The ash would suffocate him just as well as water would a drowning man and now the cart had two bodies ready for disposal. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Weiry felt somewhat responsible. Considering he was one of those that was on watch the night Modeft was killed, shouldn’t he have seen the Inquisitor coming? He was one of the best they had and he had missed it. Of course, thinking back on it, Modeft almost seemed to know. “Make sure no one leaves, Weiry. After tonight, we can’t let them get away,” he had said. Now, knowing about the poison, Weiry didn’t know if he had meant the Inquisitor or the crew. Maybe both? Either way, Weiry had been focused on keeping a watch on those already inside, which he continued to do so now. Modeft was one of the better crewleaders he’d known and he wasn’t about to let the Inquisitor get away after what they’d done. Weiry was up in one of his spynests. The Harrows were built shoddily against the walls of the canal and mist filled the walkway, but Weiry had found a few good hiding spots where he’d have a view of areas that might have a breeze that parts the mists every now and then. The mists were tricky, but if you knew what to look for, you could learn a lot about what was happening in them. The only thing Weiry couldn’t see was directly behind him, which is exactly why that is where the Inquisitor now stood. As Weiry studied the night, it pulled a spike out of it’s robes and waited. Hemalurgy was a messy, but precise art. If Weiry pulled the wrong way at the wrong moment, the spike wouldn’t hold onto his allomancy. Something sounded below and Weiry tensed. His eyes strained to make out the humanoid figure in the night. It was in that moment of perfect stillness that the Inquisitor struck. Like a cobra, it moved with a burst of speed and before Weiry’s body could topple to the streets below, the Inquisitor was already gone. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Shiv, Gamon, and Cessie never made it home. They had all passed out in the bar and were still there when Dyring came back in the morning to open up. He expected to still find them there; the potency and volume that they had all drank last night could’ve put down the entire crew. Dyring had no idea how they did it. What he was not expecting was the scribblings on the wall. Did one of them write it? They were all so passed out, he didn’t think that even if Kelsier were to show up right in front of them, back from the dead, that they’d be able to wake up, let alone write. But if not one of them, then who? The message read: “Mistress DEATH lurks Here among us Thy WANTS now are Naught but distrust It has behooved Peng the Mistborn To find poor Lam And leave him torn VENGEANCE is sought For blood we thirst May we find her 'Fore we die FIRST” ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Well, an hour late is better than nothing, right? Sorry guys, this one is not my best work, but I’m sure you’re all ready for the night to end anyways, right? Day 2 has begun and will end 36 hours from now unless someone asks for more time. Ffnord was a Regular Crew Member! Lam was a Regular Crew Member! Weiry was the Lurcher! Happy Hunting! Updated Player List- 1232 replies

What, didn't you know? Everything is 16. I think there is very likely a reason he's picked these two numbers (10 and 16). After all, if you're just drawing numbers out of a hat, you don't keep hitting on the same ones that easily. As far as his reasoning behind it; I have no idea. Maybe he was influenced by King (though I find that unlikely considering when 19 became important to King, as Quiver points out). More than likely, he just likes the symmetry of them. The problem with studying it too in depth is that numbers get crazy. I've seen someone try to prove that 1+2+3+4+... and so on to infinity equals -1/12. Numerology lives for these types of coincidences and odd math. That doesn't mean that there isn't something there. If I said that, I'd have to discount the entirety of statistics, but I think we need a few more solid examples to work from. Preferably from Elantris and Warbreaker. Personally, I plan to see if I can find them!

Long Game 2: The Devil's Den
Metacognition replied to Metacognition's topic in Sanderson Elimination
Q&A time! If they were just a Regular Crew Member, they would die. A thug would survive, but they'd be down one life. All night actions happen simultaneously, so even if something like that happened and I wrote it a certain way, that wouldn't mean it couldn't have happened the other way. In those cases, I'd pick the order that made for the most fun write up. You can get an idea of how this works in the Day 4 write up from the first game. Anyone converted by the Inquisitor loses their allomantic abilities in favor of the one they are being spiked with. This means that if they fail that roll and don't gain the ability, someone could go from being a Misting to being a regular Spiked villain. On top of this, I want to address a misconception that I think you guys are working from about the Inquisitor's Ruin-granted abilities. The Inquisitor has access to all of their powers at any given time. They can only use one of them per turn, but they can use any of them. They are not like the Mistborn. That should help you all sleep well tonight! Then the only way to kill such a person would be to have 3 people try to kill that person, 4 if it's a Thug! One Lurcher would cancel one attempt, then the second Lurcher would cancel another. If only one attempt were made on a person, then one of the Lurcher's actions just wouldn't be used. Also, I don't know what you're talking about, Mailliw. I know I can count, I just know I can! Sorry, Calculus has killed my brain. Fixed- 1232 replies

Long Game 2: The Devil's Den
Metacognition replied to Metacognition's topic in Sanderson Elimination
Night 1 (Poisoning the Well) After many pales faces and even more vomitting, the crew finally worked up the nerve to get Modeft down. Dyring did his best to keep the ale flowing, partially to help people take their minds off of the events and partially to pad his pockets. Modeft hadn’t gotten around to paying him for last night and now it looked like he never would. As they were wrapping Modeft’s body up for Lam to dispose of, something shiny caught Wes’s eye in Modeft’s inner pocket. With skilled hands, he snatched it up just as Aspren finished rolling him into a tarp. He climbed up to his perch, still clutching it tightly. He didn’t want anyone else to see it yet in case it was indeed valuable. Unfortunately, when he opened his fist, he found a capsule of some form, nothing special about it other than the fact that it had been polished to a shine. Still, whatever inside might be worth something so he pried it open. He frowned when he pulled out a couple of sheets of paper. That was definitely not the kind of prize he was after. He almost burned the pages then and there, until he spotted his name at the top of the first page. Wes, it read. Quit being a dolt and get out of the rafters. Get the rest of these papers to Aspren or I’m haunting you for eternity. Wes just about fell off his perch in shock, but barely caught himself. Thinking about it, the note might just be on to something. He shimmied down and went to find Aspren. ----------- “If you’re reading this, then I’ve been killed,” Aspren read. He had gathered everyone back together after finding out what was in the note. “My guess is that it was an Inquisitor. If you haven’t figured it out by now, our job was to take them out and they likely got to me before we finished the job. “But this one will not get away. You see, I’ve poisoned you all. A poison so potent that it will even take down a Thug eventually. It was in the air during our first night, so even our spike-headed scum has been infected. A delaying elixer is in the water at the bar and I’ve made sure to it that each of you has been getting a dose. What this means is that my killer can’t go far without dying themselves. So here’s your new job. Kill them for me. Only then will I reveal the location of the antidote to you. They have to be hidden amongst you. Root them out and butcher them. May the Survivor bless you.” The crowd was shocked into silence. Some of them had been planning on fleeing during the night. Now it looked like they were all in it till the end. “Wait,” said Maxill. “If he’s dead, how is he going to get us the antidote after we kill the… Inquisitor?” “This is Modeft,” Aether stated. “He always finds a way. It’s like he’s guided by the Survivor himself!” “Well then we had better get started,” Ffnord said. “Who’s it going to be?” “I’m too pretty to die!” Gamon complained. Luckily, cooler heads prevailed. Everyone decided they needed more information to go off of before they could just start chopping people’s heads off. After all, they were thieves; not murderers. Just as everyone was calming down and getting ready to discuss how they should proceed, after a cooling round of water for everyone, Peng, who had been mostly silent jerked straight. There was a fire in his eyes and his hands kept curling themselves into fists. “I’m tired of talking! I don’t know about the rest of you, but I want whoever did this dead! Maybe this is the Inquisitor who got my parents, maybe not, but I’m not about to let another chance slip by to kill one of their ilk! That’s why I’m a Mistborn and you’re all going to listen to me!” He met every eye in the room and surprisingly, many people seemed moved by his speech. Eddy tried to start a round of applause, but he kept missing his hands. “Now here’s what I think we should do,” Peng said. They started planning as night fell around them. Modeft’s spirit just smacked himself in his ethereal head. “Avenge me already, you lazy, no-good, miscreants! I swear, I’ve never seen a more cowardly lot!” --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Day 1 ends with no deaths! For shame on all of you for being reasonable! Night 1 begins and will last for 36 hours. I’m not that far behind for it to make much difference. If you have any night orders, send them in. If you decide not to use your night action, send me a PM saying as much! (Seriously, I didn’t hear from anyone during the day round and no one used their powers….) Fair warning guys, I may be a bit late with the write up. The day will still end on time and no votes will be counted afterwards, but I've got some calculus homework I need to finish before I do anything fun. Besides, doing the write up will be my reward for finishing the homework (it would've been more of an reward if you guys had planned to kill someone! ). Depending on how much later it is, I may adjust the amount of time in the night. It won't be drastic, but there may be only 35-34 hours in the night, rather than 36. I've added an option to vote for none on the first list. As I suspected, I can't fit everyone on a single question, which makes it a bit harder for an easy count to be established, but not impossible. On top of that, it doesn't readily express who has voted where. I'll give this a fair go, but I'm not entirely convinced by it yet. On another note, this day will continue for the 48 hours, but it seems that even with as many players as we have, 48 might be a bit much considering how quickly things have died down after only 24 hours. If everyone agrees, we'll go back to the 36 hour times and if a turn needs additional time, people can request it being extended by 12 hours. If even one person posts, asking for an extension, it will be honored and that turn will gain an additional 12 hours. Thoughts?- 1232 replies

I almost forgot that we wanted to try using the poll system. Note: voting on the poll does not count as an official vote. If you want your vote counted, you must still post your vote count in Red and retractions in Green. This is just to give everyone an idea of where the voting is at during any given time and if it feels like it is taking away from the game in any way, I will stop using it. This is just a chance to see how well it will work for our purposes.- 1232 replies

Any votes that are not clear will not be counted, as well as any vote made without switching previous votes to green. Just trying to clarify it for everyone. I could see that, but I think the confusion and intrigue is worth it at this point. If everything becomes too clear, we risk losing part of the fun! Going that route very well may make mob rule easier, or make people less likely to speak up if their opinion doesn't go along with the poll. Not to mention that it'll make it easier for people to just vote with the group without explanation, which loses you guys a lot of information. Plus, we haven't dealt with the issue of other people being able to vote. While I think most people on the forum would respect our wishes and not add their own voice, it doesn't take a lot of bad apples to spoil it for everyone. We'll give it a try though. When I get to my home computer tonight, I'll look into the poll options and see if it's something we can work with. No promises that we'll keep using it, but I'm open to trying different ideas. Just don't be too surprised if I cancel it later if it seems like it's making the game less complex and chaotic.- 1232 replies

Aether only has to do lists if he wants to do lists. Which, like Bartbug said, I'm pretty sure he enjoys it. I have all of my Docs for keeping track of things and if you guys would like a vote count sometime during the day round, ask and I can quickly put one together. Note, I will not reveal any powers being used within those preemptive counts, even if I have their orders in, but I'll give you guys an accurate representation of who has voted where. Besides, as Peng correctly points out, the polls are annonymous. That part alone would make it insensible to use them, as that is half of the information you get during the day rounds! I wouldn't want to take away such a powerful tool for both sides.- 1232 replies

This is my baby. I came up with it on my own, though the group I play with on another forum are very good about figuring out how to switch things around into different settings (right now, we have a game taking place on a mission into space!). As you said, Mistborn was just an easy place to start. That said, I think the people of this forum are some of the best equipped to come up with new and unique roles. Not only are we constantly immersed in incredibly deep and fantastic worlds thanks to Brandon, we also have an entire other layer underneath them that we eagerly explore with little information to go off of. While I think the idea of using established roles as templates is an excellent idea, I don't want to quell any creativity by us trying to force Sanderson's worlds into certain roles. We should strive to make the roles fit the world, not make the world fit the roles.

Those are actually pretty good! By putting a cap on how much a Feruchemist can store, it does help balance it some. A few things I noticed that worry me though: - The Pewter Ferring wouldn't ever need to charge up to 4. A triple shot gives him enough to pretty much kill anything, at least as it stands right now. - There are a lot of scanning roles hidden in there. The Zinc and the Tin both have abilities to scan people. The reason this is problematic is that scanning is one of the most useful roles in the game. Without some roles that show up incorrectly or something to that extent, scanning roles can take away some of the mystery of the game. One of the biggest benefits the Evil faction has is the ability to lie convincingly. If you take away that ability by introducing too many ways to scan people, you lose a lot of balance, in my opinion. -The Feruchemist works out fairly well as a balance to the Mistborn. The ability to store an ability away for later use is already a huge bonus, I don't think it needs the ability to possibly store more metals. The Mistborn has to use their abilities while they have it. The Feruchemist may not be able to reach the higher charge rates, but they'd be able to hold onto a charge indefinitely. That's pretty balancing as is. All that said, I think you've given us a great start for figuring out how to incorporate Feruchemy into the game! Bravo! I'd love to see these modified and maybe we can make them work. That goes for everyone. If you think you can help balance these, feel free to chime in. A reminder though (and this is in general and for everyone) the simpler a role is, the better. The more factors you add, including random factors, the more you have to take into account.

It is a valid vote, but if someone were to get two or more votes for them, they would die. I'm sorry for the confusion. It is more of an abstaining from voting than it is a vote for no one to die. It is more for clarification purposes. If you don't want anyone to die, say so in red and it will be recorded as such, that way it is easier for me to keep a tally. Also, the Inquisitor does indeed have some unique abilities. They can use these abilities until they use it up in the process to convert someone. They can only use one of the abilities at a time, but if one is a day action and one is a night action, they will be able to use them both within the same cycle.- 1232 replies

Long Game 2: The Devil's Den
Metacognition replied to Metacognition's topic in Sanderson Elimination
Almost forgot guys: There is indeed a Tineye among the crew, so PMs are allowed, but for the purposes of making sure everything is good to go, I want to be included in any PMs between players. I will remain silent, but the behind the scenes stuff is some of the most fun! I'll also tell you this though, there are a few duplicate roles. Edit: It takes a minimum of two votes to kill someone, so be very careful how you proceed. If there is a tie, no one dies either. The problem for you guys is, if you just sit, you don't get anything to go off of later, but if you kill, you might kill someone important. Decisions, decisions. Oh, and yes, a vote of No Kill is acceptable.- 1232 replies
