Cycle 5 - Tiebreaker During one of their stops, Svetao had found something in Charlie’s pack - correspondence from a rival company to the one backing Idoya. It seems the expedition had been infiltrated by a number of people employed by one of their enemies, and they were doing their best to stop them from finding anything in this awful jungle. That hadn’t helped the general sense of paranoia either, but fortunately no one immediately started to attack anyone. They reached an obstacle in the form of a 50 foot high cliff face midmorning. Apparently it would take far too long to find their way around it, and put them far out of the way to their destination. Second of the Twilight was a good climber though, and so he scaled the cliff face with some rope, finding a place to securely fasten it up the top, allowing a few harnesses to be rigged to slowly assist everyone to make the ascent. By late afternoon, they were down to the last few people. Third of the Storm and Sherlock were both making the ascent when part of the cliff gave way. Both were left dangling in the air, stuck two thirds of the way up the climb. Fortunately, there were enough people around up the top that they could help drag the ropes up to get the two to safety. Until one of the ropes snapped. With a cry, Sherlock began to fell. And then there was a sickening crack as he hit the ground below. He didn’t move again. Then there was another thump, as Svetao joined him with a knife in his skull, dead before he’d even hit the ground.. Magestar was lynched. He was a Researcher. Daniyah was killed. She was a Researcher. Editing the original will suffice. And yes I know yours is particularly obvious, but I decided to make the ruling that it is still an Ookla name so the rules regarding them applies. I'd also be satisfied with your username being in your member title , or if it was in your sig as being clear as saying you are you.

Long Game 28: The Awakening at the House on the Hill
Haelbarde replied to Wyrmhero's topic in Sanderson Elimination
So, two deaths. Hoping that's a town vigilante role, not a second eliminator kill... If it's a town vig role, which kill do people reckon was the eliminator kill? Stick? Also, we're now up to 5 eliminators, out of 29 players living. If the second kill is any indication, some people have been lucky enough to actually find some useful items/roles when exploring. While I do think there's some sorta limit on how large the eliminator team is allowed to get before it being basically impossible to grow larger, I do think it'd let us reach 7 or 8 eliminators before truly getting improbable. But I don't think that's going to at all help us out. So less exploring is a good thing. Not exploring at night is an easy enough thing for people to do if you've found a role. So more the thing is those who've not been lucky enough to find items/roles. I won't say "Don't explore", because you're here to have fun, and it may be that you'll find it less fun if you don't have items/abilities or something. I'd just ask you to be conscious of the fact that your exploration could generate a new eliminator. Although it's likely the eliminators will explore anyway, so there'll always be a chance of a new eliminator anyway. But your exploring increases the probability of it happening. As far as suspicions go, Ecthelion is probably the player I'm most suspicious of right now. Two of the key things I brought up last night: > They voted on Rae for little reason (they then responded that they were more suspicious of Rae than PK, but none of that was communicated in thread prior to the lynch, or explained as to why they were suspicious of Rae either), > They encouraged villagers to roleclaim in thread, or barring that, PM them. The only way claiming in thread could possibly work is if there was a village protection role. Otherwise the eliminators can just jump in and kill the village scanner. Role claiming in PM's is also a bad idea - this game has a conversion mechanic. Since last night, there are 2 more eliminators, and they could be anyone. Including Ecthelion, if they weren't already. Also, unfortunately an alignment scanner's usefulness (if we have or get one) is diminished until we stop getting new eliminators each night. After it's settled down, scans can carry more weight. And those two things are also about the extent of their contribution to the game so far, as far as I can tell. I'm not going to put a vote down on them just yet, but I'm going to think about it.- 980 replies

Long Game 28: The Awakening at the House on the Hill
Haelbarde replied to Wyrmhero's topic in Sanderson Elimination
Definitely don't say in thread that you have a useful role. If you must tell someone, do so in pm, possibly to more than one player, so if you're unfortunate enough to tell an eliminator your role, someone else can tell the village who else knew, maybe.- 980 replies

Long Game 28: The Awakening at the House on the Hill
Haelbarde replied to Wyrmhero's topic in Sanderson Elimination
So some thoughts: A few people (Rae) have expressed suspicion over Jondesu. So far, my read has been "Inexperienced Villager doing their best to help out". I'm still sorta unhappy with people turning up just to say "I have nothing to add". Because that's false. Read through players posts, and tell me how likely you think each player is a villager/eliminator... As far as generating eliminators is concerned, while there probably isn't a hard limit, I have no doubt that there are systems in place to prevent the number getting out of hand -Wyrm is an experienced GM, and no stranger to running games with lots of moving parts (see his Heirs to the Final Empire game). I think we can afford another eliminator. I'd not be comfortable with more though, I don't think. Not very happy about Ecthelion's vote on Rae Day 2 - seems like that was entirely done for OOG reasons... Activity is vastly down since D1: No posts N1 from: Aonar, Arinian, Assassin, Daniyah, Doctor, Ecthelion, Stick, jefry, Mark, Nathan, Nyali, Orlok, polking, Seonid, STINK, Straw, Chaos, Unodus. (18/33) No posts D2 from: Aonar, Bugsy, Clanky, Darkness, Doc, Elbereth, Stick, jerfry, Magestar, Mark, Nathan, Orlok, Seonid, Chaos (14/32) Hopefully this picks up... That's just the players not posting. There are plenty of players who do post but say little (like myself, for instance). :/ That's all I've time for now. I'll try and get back with something resembling suspicions once I have time to reread the game again.- 980 replies

Cycle 4 - Snackbreak The next day’s slog through the jungle was harder than ever. They lost two men to a particularly poisonous thornweed, and another to some sort of large feline that must have been following them. Everyone was exhausted, and on edge, by mid afternoon, and they had stopped more than usually through the day. It didn’t help that they’d lost some of their supplies in the sandstorm the previous day, and more of the food had been spoiled. If people kept eating every time the party stopped, they could well run out of food. They would probably have to ration it more, but Idoya had other things on her mind for the moment. From what notes she had on where they were headed, and the suggestions of their two trappers, they should be no more than 4 days out from their destination, and so she was hoping to find more evidence that they were going the right direction. All day she had looked, but there seemed to be no clues for her to find. Although, she did find something odd that evening. When they set up camp, she set up her gear under a tree she was assured wouldn’t kill her by the trappers, and when moving around it, she found an odd circular design carved into one of the roots. The carving was nothing like she’d seen before, but for all she knew, it could just have been a random carving from a bored trapper. But she couldn’t help wonder if it could be a clue to their destination. “Alright everyone, think we’re all getting a bit too heated, so I’m gonna say we all take a snackbreak” was shouted by either the guy on the outskirts of the discussion or the guy in the middle of the discussion. Didn’t really matter much, seeing as everyone seemed to also want some snacks to break (is that not what a snackbreak is?)One of the people that was especially happy for a snackbreak was Charlie, who always seemed to be eating the weirdest sandwiches. For the first day, it was just your normal chicken sandwich, ya know? Then no-one really knew what he had on the second day, or any of the time really. But no-one really cared about it, or at least that’s what Charlie thought. So it was a surprise when someone that Charlie had never even seen before came up to him and smacked his sandwich right out of his hands and into the ground, ruining the contents of the sandwich for the rest of time, never to be seen again, never to be loved and treasured, but left to the tiny ants that would never be able to appreciate such a fine work of art. Charlie distantly heard someone say “I prefer pie anyway, like is he about to start crying about a sandwich?” And he was. It was just too much, trying to manage killing unsuspecting villagers, making a sandwich, disposing of the rest of their bodies, and choosing the next villager to kill. But what did it matter if no-one would appreciate the sandwiches? And that was what broke the camel’s back. Charlie left, walking this way or that way. What was the point? The sandwich was left on the ground, ants slowly taking a quick munch before passing on. STINK was lynched. He was a Traitor. Vote Tally: Assassin (1): Wonko Stink (5): Dani, Aman, Ecthelion, Mage, Nyali Dani (1): Stick Wonko (3): Doc, Jondesu, STINK Edit: A reminder: If you participate in Ookla season, please sign your posts with the username you signed up under. Long Game 28: The Awakening at the House on the Hill
Haelbarde replied to Wyrmhero's topic in Sanderson Elimination
I should have posted something like this a lot earlier, but it slipped my mind. The last two days have been fairly busy (I was out for a fair portion of the day at a friends wedding). While I have read the thread through email notifications, I've not given anything much thought. I also need to sleep now, and while I may get on just prior to turnover, I'm not going to have time to think, and so properly contribute to the lynch. I will however try my best to write up some thoughts tomorrow afternoon, as there has been stuff worth responding to.- 980 replies

Cycle Three - Windbreak The detour they had had to make brought them out of the jungle proper into a more open rocky region. While one might have expected that leaving the jungle would make thing safer, that was far from the case. Tracks of dangerous creatures were almost impossible to detect, and the area was home to its own variety of unique monsters, like beasts almost indistinguishable from larger rocks, covered in an incredibly sticky film that trapped any creatures foolish or unlucky enough to touch it, keeping them in place while it poisoned the creature and waited for it to quickly die before unfolding, dragging it away, and messily consuming its prey. That wasn’t going to be a sight Idoya would soon forget. They had lost more time when the wind picked up. The wind had whipped up a mess of dust and sand, dropping visibility to almost zero. They’d had to quickly move towards a cave that the trappers had found shortly before the winds had picked up. Not all of them had made it though. Yazava wasn’t there when they did a head count. And then Nannyberry had disappeared. Apparently he had been forced out back into the winds and dust to find Yazava. He didn’t return. Something did come out of the detour though. Once the duststorm had died down, and they’d continued their journey, they found something remarkable. Stone formations with holes in them for the wind to whistle through. As the wind changed, different eerie notes sang out. And once they’d left the rocks, and begun moving back into the jungle, Idoya had looked back at the hills they’d just passed through. From this point, before the trees obscured the view, she noticed a formation of rocks that resembled something like that of a howling wolf. And now she knew they were on the right track. The mad trapper had mentioned these. Maybe they’d be finding something after all. JUQ was lynched. He was a researcher. Alvron was killed. He was a researcher. Clanky has replaced Darkness Ascendant. Aman has replaced Orlok. Vote Tally JUQ(6): Doc, Polking, Jondesu, Magestar, Stink, Ecthelion STINK(4): Daniyah, Alvron, JUQ, Darkness Ascendant Daniyah(1): Stick Player List

@Elbereth I... Had forgotten I had made that post. It's not exactly conveniently placed either... And a proper article would go into more detail on giving examples, offer other ideas, and maybe explain the reasons why you do each thing. To anyone here who has thoughts on how to contribute when you're a village regular, I'd appreciate it if you could think it over and write something up - at the conclusion of my MR, I'd like to be able to discuss these sorta things, and offer suggestions for how people can play better in that situation.- 980 replies

Cycle 2 - Icebreaker None one really said much. Discussion felt pointless. What was there to say, each and everyone wondered as the wandered through the jungle. A few conversations sprung up here and there, but the mood quashed them underfoot like the foliage. "You know what we need?" A voice rang out. "An icebreaker! A game or something to get to know each other, you know!? I've heard of a good one - there's 2 teams. One team is randomly chosen, and know each other, and get to eliminate one person per round, while everyone gets to vote for someone else. I forget the details, but that sounds fun, right?!" Silence. "Guys?" First of the Noon appeared from behind some trees. "Sounds lame. Who's want to do that? No one would even talk! But we'll be stopping here for the next half hour. The path a head gets too dense. We need to work out a way around." No one spoke as the trapper disappeared again. There were still no words as everyone made camp. First of the Twilight - that was not her true name, of course; she had been born a Mainlander just like most of the others. But she was used to being called that, now. She’d lived among the trappers for so long. She patted her little night-seeing Aviar fondly, ignoring the discussion around her. Talk was immaterial. Actions mattered. And she was tired from standing guard last night. Her Aviar, unfortunately, made her an excellent choice for guard duty, and meant she was constantly tired. So she didn’t notice when the discussion turned to her, at first. Her, and the man murdered last night. She still hated herself for that. She’d been on watch. She was responsible. And it seemed someone else shared that opinion. Several someones, in fact. As she trudged along, the talk turned to action, without her notice. And hands thrust her into nearby brush. Surviving on Amaji had been one thing, with near-perfect knowledge of the territory and enough resources to get herself started on a home. Here? Where she didn’t know anything about her surroundings, and barely had enough food and water to last the day? Impossible. By the time she extricated herself from the (fortunately mostly-harmless, excluding a few leeches which she could brush off without much trouble) bush, the others were long gone, and venturing after them was just as much of a death sentence as staying in place. First of the Twilight stared after them for a moment, then sighed. Perhaps she couldn’t survive long, here. But she couldn’t help but try. A couple days later, First of the Twilight lay in the dirt, feeling like a thousand needles were dancing over her skin. She’d been careless, and tripped over another trapper’s protective trap. In this case, that meant a whole pile of stinging nettle falling on her, followed by a few of its more poisonous and deadly cousins. It was not quick, nor painless. She hadn’t expected it to be. But she had survived by herself for two days on an unknown island, with no help and no resources to speak of. She died alone, but she died proud. And as she watched the blue sky above peeking through the thick canopy, writhing in pain, everything faded to grey, and she died. Caught up in analyzing the notes she had on the muttering of that poor trapper who'd found something on this island, she hadn't kept track of the mood of the party until she noticed that First of the Twilight, a trapper from Amaji who'd signed on with the expedition, was missing. Upon enquiring, she'd found out that the trapper hadn't somehow gotten lost. Rather she'd been expelled from the party intentionally. Everyone knew of trapper rivalries - it was rare to find a pair of trappers who could cooperate enough to help guide a larger party through their island. So why was a trapper from a different island coming along? She should have payed more attention and stopped that from happen - First had been a valuable member of the team, providing a much needed watch during the night, providing their guides time to rest. And how necessary that overwatch had been was all to well demonstrated the next morning, when they found Link, another trapper, with his throat sliced, and his aviar crushed. Link lay awake, staring at the stars above, as his trusty aviar murmed words to him about fantasical stories where he was a hero over a great land which one day would he rule over. He let the words flow over him, sending his mind on adventures even now as he drifted on to sleep. So wrapped up in the visions of glory, he didn't hear the squark of his bird getting grabbed, nor the sound of it's neck being broken. He did notice the hand roughly covering his mouth as a sharp blade was run over his throat. As the darkness enveloped him, he didn't struggle. He just let his mind wander free in the world of his creation... Elbereth was lynched. She was a researcher. Lopen was killed. He was a researcher. Vote Tally: Elbereth(4): Nyali, Lopen, JUQ, Doctor Magestar(1): Alvron STINK(1): Ecthelion Stick(1): Daniyah JUQ(1): Jondesu Player List
