i would think that size matters only to a certain extent. Shards still have Physical bodies somewhere. Either that or they have so much power that their physical form move temporarily (while they are alive) to another realm. The part the I don't yet understand with Nightblood is what happens to the things he destroys. As previously mentioned in this thread, 1000 breaths doesn't seem like enough power to do what he does. My personal belief is that Nightblood feeds off the Investiture he consumes. He may leak some, but he stores the rest. This would possibly explain the magnitude of his power since he was used to kill his creator, who was at the 9th Heightening, plus an uncounted number of others. While he may leak power when unsheathed, he is normally contained. The God King has an enormous store of breaths, but he is still human sized (if a bit large as a Returned). I don't see why a sword couldn't contain a similar amount of power.

There's also the issue of Susebron being GodKing. Try telling him that he isn't married to his wife and he may not agree with you. Explaining legal fine print to a man who's title is God King probably won't get you very far. Similar issue with Dalinar getting married in Oathbringer. If the remnant of Honor's power preforms the ceremony, who is going to argue with him? Random Ardent: "Stormfather, I don't think you have the right to do that." Stormfather: "YOU ARE WRONG"

I was referring to this annotation. Historically, Aluminum was very rare due to the production issues. Napoleon had a set of Aluminum dinnerware that was worth more than the gold and silver ones.

There's a WoB that he originally was going to use Silver instead of Aluminum in Mistborn, but Silver would be way too common for the time period. Aluminum, while abundant in modern times, is very rare without the proper production processes in place. I do not believe that Aluminum has been confirmed as the sheath material, but it's the only metal known in the Cosmere that has the right properties. It may also be an unknown alloy; but I would guess that it has a high Aluminum content.

The Kaza interlude. She is going to Aimia to seek a cure for her condition. The rumor or legend is that the Soulcasters came from there. This is probably true since all of the barrier spikes were Soulcast.

I think this will definitely become an issue/advantage on more technologically advanced worlds. The biggest issue with Aluminum production is electric energy consumption. The smelting plants in my area have their own electric plants on site.

That definitely makes sense because of the whole crab/cremling/chull motif. It just seemed odd to me that Axies would still be studying the spren after so many years, but I guess we're still exploring our world and finding new things today. The origin of Soulcasters was intriguing. The Aimians we've seen seem to be aligned with Honor, but also seem to be more neutral than other parties. From what we saw in Edgedancer, they can be a formidable force when threatened.

Excellent point. Even if the Heralds sat down for the portraits, the artists would have taken some liberties. To put this in modern context, think of pictures of celebrities without makeup or photo editing. True or not, there's a story about Charlie Chaplin losing a Charlie Chaplin look-a-like contest. Having an accurate picture of what someone last seen 4,000 years ago looks like would be nearly impossible. From the Heralds point of view, they can narrow their suspects down to a small handful of people. There's not that many immortals floating around.

[OB] The third Bondsmith and Urithiru
kmosiman replied to FirstSelector's topic in Stormlight Archive
What about the power source for the city? While we don't know exactly what happened when Honor was splintered, his Perpendicularity was missing. When Dalinar reformed it, all of the nearby gems became infused. While Honor's Shardpool may be at the Origin; Origin could also be a non-shard related power source. If this is the case, then Honor's Shardpool and Perpendicularity could have been located in Urithiru. Either that or the Bondsmiths provided a direct link to the power, which is why 1 of them needed to be in the city at all times. As Honor was slowly splintered, the power fueling the city would have faded slowly as well. When Honor died, the city died with him. I know that this doesn't account for Cultivation's portion, but she may have needed to withdraw her power when she went into hiding or she may have been unable to maintain the city on her own. -
Slightly off topic, but what do you think about origin of Aimians? Axies the Collector is a Siah Amian, but when he was asked if he was a Voidbringer or Herald, he said Voidbringer. Is this an indication that the Aimians are from off world like humans or just a coincidence? He could have just as easily said that he was a Herald

I believe that Brandon confirmed that Vivenna would be in Oathbringer. While it is entirely possible that there is another character from Nalthis that knows Vasher and Nightblood; the easiest explanation is that Azure is Vivenna.
-
Would the Oathpact prevent this from happening? I don't believe we've seen the actual term of the deal, but Shards evidently can't break oaths. I think he might be able to stop a few of them, but if 1 of the Heralds dies normally or returns willingly then they would be able to take their place again.

[OB] Be wary of anyone who claims to be able to see the future
kmosiman replied to lordofsoup's topic in Stormlight Archive
I think part of the aversion is the risk of despair. If you buy in to something happening then you are less likely to prevent it. Renarin was crouched on the floor waiting for the deathblow to come before he was proven wrong. He had given up hope and KNEW that his father would become Odium's champion. If he believed that his visions could change then he could have fought against them. -
[OB] Azure's Identity (+Warbreaker spoilers)
kmosiman replied to Beggar's topic in Stormlight Archive
I would doubt that Vasher has completely lost his extra breath, though he could have given it away or had it consumed by Nightblood. In this case, he would be trapped on Roshar unless he could get back to Nalthis and get an extra breath in a week. We also saw Hoid Awaken a rag doll to find the little girl. He then changed the doll's command and left it with her. -

Sorry I forgot about that, quick reading and late nights. I need to start my reread. I noticed that she wrapped her cloak around her arm. That could be for awakened strength, but she could be hiding the tendrils if her sword acts similarly to Nightblood. It doesn't vaporize though, so it must be less of the black hole that he is. -
[OB] - The Cosmeric implications of Oathbringer's ending
kmosiman replied to rdog2213's topic in Stormlight Archive
The part that doesn't fully make sense to me yet is the rejoining. I guess it may be similar to stars and planets forming or maybe once a piece of power gets used to being separate it stays separate. Otherwise the other splintered Shards should have reformed. My personal theory is that Dalinar has reformed some of Honor's power but is still missing most of it. Over time he should be able to reform it, except the Stormfather mentioned that some wounds do not heal, so maybe Shards can't reform on their own.- 69 replies

[OB] Azure's Identity (+Warbreaker spoilers)
kmosiman replied to Beggar's topic in Stormlight Archive
I believe there are a few WoBs or notes in the annotations that the sequel will involve Yesteel who may be working on other Awakened blades. It should be interesting to learn what advances have been made with them. Of course, we never saw her blade fully drawn so it could have similar effects. Hopefully the word DESTROY is not part of its command. -
[OB] - The Cosmeric implications of Oathbringer's ending
kmosiman replied to rdog2213's topic in Stormlight Archive
I'm leaning towards theory number 1. In Mistborn the shard holder was killed and the power needed to be held together by a new host. Honor was actually shattered by Odium, but he left a good chunk of power with the Stormfather. In Mistborn when a person Ascended their physical body disappeared while they held the Shard. Dalinar still exists in the physical realm, so the same thing hasn't occurred. He can also directly provide Stormlight, but this tires him. This is not to say that he cannot gain more power and come closer to reassembling the Shard. If I'm counting correctly, he only made the 3rd oath of the Bondsmiths. The next 2 should greatly increase his power.- 69 replies

Odium. Or to be a bit more serious, the biggest problem right now that Nightblood can solve is the Fused. Kill one and it's back tomorrow without the Heralds holding them back. Kill one with Nightblood and it's gone for good. The Thunderclasts would be an excellent target as well.

[OB] [Oathbringer Spoilers] Soulcaster side effects
kmosiman replied to iamstick's topic in Stormlight Archive
Well that's a interesting thought. It be kind of like the Fused but still different enough. I'm not sure if it would work for all of the orders though. -
I don't have the exact timing quotes, but I believe that the current Stormlight books are slightly before Bands of Mourning. These books should happen in the planned time gap between the first 5 and last 5 Stormlight books. I'm not sure if Hoid came (or will come) to him openly, but one of the epigraphs was obvoiusly written by Harmony in reply to a request for help. The Ars could have been written after BoM as well which could have affected the wording. The commoditization could also be in reference to the inventions of Southern Scadrial which had been developed well before the current Mistborn series.

Revision to my previous statement. I was quite tired when reading the ending and missed the section with Oatherbringer. Rock gifted Oathbringer to Dalinar as repayment for saving the bridgemen from Sadeas. The other set is still his then. Long live the eventual King.
-
I definitely agree with that idea. One of the recurring themes has been that things are happening that have not occurred before. Some of the things that Dalinar does surprise the Stormfather when they happen. While he has existed "forever", he has not had the same abilities and has not been bonded while he has the level of power he has now. Just because he said that he knows of no way to restore a broken spren doesn't mean that he can't now.
-
Despite his reluctance to fight, Rock killed Amaram. This, by normal right of conquest, means he has fulfilled his brothers quest to be the first Horneater with Shards, as he has claim to 2 blades and the Plate. Rock had stated before that the first Horneater to win Shards would become King of all the Clans. While I’m not sure if he can or will claim them; Rock may now be a King.

The smaller size could also indicate lesser Voidspren that could be unleashed. A spren like Ulim might be trapped in a smaller stone.
