  1. Unfortunately, in order to prevent themselves from dying a poisonous death, they would have to tap gold, thus screwing up the data. I would rather use willing Thugs in studies, myself. More of them, they're cheaper, they already work in dangerous circumstances, and they can recover more easily than other people. Plus, if we get any human rights protesters knocking on the door of my evil CEO lair, I've got a bunch of brainwashed security guards ready to go!
  2. I think the falling from the bridge was more the stormlight making him stronger, similar to Allomantic pewter. I'd bet every order of the Knights had at least that - some of the powers could get pretty self-destructive without immediate healing from minor injuries. Flinging yourself around with gravitational manipulations could be nasty if you're unable to heal bone stress and windburn.
  3. But just having Sazed dump a bunch of allomantic theory in becomes, quite literally, a deux ex machina. Besides, preservation's memories probably skedadled when Leras died.
  4. We do, kind of. He left the plates in the caches. Probably recorded all his allomantic tricks in copperminds, though... that would be quite a relic to recover, if anyone could find them and get around the feruchemical "thou shalt not use the Investiture of another" problem.
  5. The torture in Hellraiser has always reminded me of, you know.... hell
  6. But this is 17th shard. When a character blinks at a strange moment, we create several pages of graphs, physics equations, and tables showing the exact theorized abilities of nonexistent characters.
  7. Not in AoL era. Besides, we're talking hypotheticals.
  8. It always seemed strange to me that they sent a single man that would have to convince her to eat the bread to kill her... especially considering that she specifically avoids ardents. It's like sending a lion to catch a dolphin - unless the group happened to be to busy to send anybody else
  9. On impurities, it's possible that gems on Roshar have more a more stable chemical makeup than ours; they may not even be remotely similar to Earth gemstones and are called what they are more as meaning "precious crystal colloquially known to have this colour" than as "a specific crystal configuration that exists through a range of colours, or sometimes doesn't, and can be either'
  10. So the Oathpact could be in fact a pact between Honor and Odium(hatred, rage), almost a wager: There will be Heralds of Honor who are sworn to defend against Odium's Desolations, but they will have the choice to leave. Between each Desolation, they will be tortured by Odium or Odium's minions. If they give in to the torture and abandon Honor, Odium reigns (DOOM DOOM DOOOOM)
  11. Is it a state of mind? A place in the Cognitive Realm? A buried stasis chamber with the unfortunate effect of simulating eternal torture? A different planet? The Spiritual Realm? The middle of the Origin of Storms?
  12. However, Elantrian magic and Rosharian magic differ greatly in concept and implementation -
  13. She told Shallan it was a test of a sort. She may have been lying.
  14. Given that spren are apparently, to various degrees, Cognitive beings, this is a very valid theory.
  15. I forgot you could Soulcast air... Though they are slightly flattened at the bottom, even though it seems to me soulcaster fabrials tend to produce very spherical and undetailed shapes.
  16. Jasnah is an Elsecaller (Transformation + Travel) Despite six months of doing nothing but following her, Shallin didn't catch her til Kharbranth. During this time, Jasnah was not idly sipping tea before travelling again. She was researching, analyzing, mingling with nobility and probably doing some vigilante Soulcasting on the side. I'm guessing that she was using her Travel surge to get to places faster. Perhaps she travelled partly by sea and partly bypassing mountains, islands, deserts, etc with Travel. Perhaps she was exclusively Travelling. My point is, she was surgebinding her way around Roshar by the first couple chapters.
  17. But how are they made? I suppose shoving bits of gem into spheres of some cheap material then soulcasting them would work, but there should still be facilities for making them somewhere. At the least, a spheremakers guild/union/city/etc. would be a major political power.
  18. A simple idea: One Lurcher, one Coinshot, some duct tape and presto, (with a whole freakin' lot of preparation and humiliating experiences) Vin-style horseshoe running. Bonus points if they really don't like each other. Could this work with conjoined twins? What about larger litter-style craft that can take passengers. I can imagine a low-altitude coach powered by slave allomancers.
  19. It was an idea, I suppose. I won't claim to have many good ones.
  20. I recently lost my pen for my bamboo splash. Anyone in the know as to which ones work with which, and where to buy a replacement?
  21. Spheres are ubiquitous there aren't Aimian, Kharbranthian, and Alethian spheres - there are just spheres. Nowhere are they shaped differently, and it's implied that the same value system is used across all of them. In addition, despite being made of glass, we have yet to see one shatter from mundane causes. Who manufactures/manufatured them? Were they originally just "batteries" for surgebinders?
  22. The hit-and-run had gone on as well as could be expected; that is to say, barring a miracle, David would be gargling mud from the bottom of the Thames in three minutes, fourty-three seconds.
  23. What if, as a Shard, he can simply look into the past on a molecular level to get his references? Also, if the Southern Scadrians were given technology rather than genetics to survive, perhaps they weren't actually changed from before TLR screwed things up royally. If so, they could have acted as a blueprint for Sazed to work out the more fundemental body chemistries.
  24. We don't see half the stuff that guy gets up to, anyhow. Almost all the time, he meets with people after they're widely know of already, or while in pursuit of his own goals.
  25. This is a blatant ripoff of 's Really Bad Shard Ideas. Basically, this is where you put ideas that you thought were ridiculous at first, but didn't seem so bad when you thought through them. Or just good ideas I sorta found myself overthinking my submissions and ruining the lighthearted intent, so yeah. Why aren't you posting already? Go! EDIT: Fixing posty linky thingamaboberroos EDIT 2: Maybe now it'll work?
