Mid-Range Game 67: 'Twas the Night Before SA5
Araris Valerian replied to Mat's topic in Sanderson Elimination
Or I'm just ignoring your claim because you're you . I do think it's the sort of attention-grabby proactive thing that a villager would do to be rude to some poor elims that are just trying to kill everyone. But every time I've figured you out as elim it was later in the game, so I'm not worrying too much about you right now. -

MR 56 was a complete train wreck for the two of us, so I hope you’re not implying I’m an elim trying to replicate it. That seems about as reasonable of an explanation as anything I can come up with. Might be a bit biased since it makes Cash and I look kinda village. But in reality, an Archer NK just seems odd, he had votes on him all C1, so there was always a risk he’d get switched onto. And he wasn’t widely village read, that I could tell. -

Alright, I think I see where you're coming from, and how it's kinda a NAI thing. In response to the folks voting me because of mass raven death, is there an implication that I was trying to save Aeoryi/some other teammate? Or does e!me just really want Archer dead C1? And bonus food for thought: Why do the elims kill someone voting for Archer in the first place? If one of the Archer votes is elim, that narrows a POE. If the elims wanted a low-info kill, plenty of folks didn't vote. It may be possible that there are 2+ non-voting elims, and that they would want to avoid narrowing the non-voting POE. -

Is this because you are more confident that Ash is a villager than that you are yourself? Because usually we exe people based on what we think their alignment is.- 1220 replies

I was reading through quickly and thought I saw you responding to suspicion. It would for some folks, but the ultimate nature of the play is to make people feel awkward about leaving a vote on you, and Archer definitely understands that. Villagers have been pulling this kind of thing frequently enough that I think it’s inevitable an elim does it just for the cred, and a D1 SK claim fits right with that for the reasons I mentioned earlier.- 1220 replies

Mid-Range Game 67: 'Twas the Night Before SA5
Araris Valerian replied to Mat's topic in Sanderson Elimination
I'm still content to leave my vote on Archer; his stirring up noise doesn't say anything about his alignment, and doing a "reaction test" like that is an easy way to get village points. Nobody should believe your claim. And on D1 sticking your head out is just asking to get voted on. I think the natural variation in players is going to far outweigh any alignment distinguishers with this ploy. I saw something about Kas and just want to mention that exeing Kas D1 is never a good idea. If he's village we want the elims to worry about Brandon protecting him, and if he's elim it will become patently clear (perhaps not to me, but definitely to others) well before the game ends. And if it doesn't, then that means Kas has become more comfortable with elimming, which I'll gladly trade for a loss.- 1220 replies

Long Game 98: A Tale of Mists and Metals
Araris Valerian replied to Araris Valerian's topic in Sanderson Elimination
As another day drew to a close, it seemed that Rem would be killed. Arwhin, looking put-out that nobody had taken up his and Sirta's call for Pending's death, raised his hand to call the day when Rem and Rilla dashed up to announce that they supported the execution of Pending as well. The townsfolk retreated to their homes once again, and none of them noticed the triumphant smiles upon Rem and Rilla's faces. Well into the night, three figures scurried across town, and in their wake an orange glow slowly enveloped the town, starting with the now-abandoned homes of those who had been mysteriously killed in the recent weeks. Someone ran out of a house, screaming, "Fire!", but one of the arsonists came upon them from behind with a dagger, cutting off the shouts. The blaze continued to grow, pushing back the mists and reflecting off the river it's namesake color. Near the north end of Copper's Bend, a group of villagers had clumped together in the street, staring aghast at the inferno where their homes had once been. Pending immediately took charge of the crowd. "Dasenk, you can use Pewter, yes? Grab some buckets and form a brigade. We can still save some of the buildings near the river. Jorrick and Sirta, you two follow him. I'll see if I can spot those responsible for this." Those three ran off toward the river as Pending turned back to the center of town and burned Tin. Immediately the heat and the light of the fire nearly overwhelmed his senses, and he had to fight against the urge to extinguish his metal. Squinting against the sensations, Pending managed to focus on two of the figures dashing through the streets, making out Rilla and... "Arwhin!" Pending called out to the mayor, "What is the meaning of this?" The mayor took in the unfolding destruction as he approached Pending, an angry expression twisting his face. "This is your fault. Twice the votes were tied because of you. And even if the town had somehow managed to be saved, you'd have tried to take over. No, better to let things run their course. As Ruin says, everything must come to an end, eventually." A flicker of shock passed Pending's face as he took in Arwhin's meaning. "You... are a spiked? You're a selfish, conceited old man, but I never thought you'd stoop so low to be rid of me. So be it. This corner of Copper's Bend still stands, and now everyone will see who deserves to be its leader." And Pending brandished a dueling cane as the two Spiked rushed him. Toward the river came a crunching sound, followed by a great splashing of water. Rem had struck at the makeshift firefighters, smashing the Dasenk's two massive buckets with apparently enhanced strength before jumping on the other man, bearing him to the ground. Those nearby tried to help but were thrown aside by the pewter enhanced blows of the two fighters. Between the blaze and the brawling, there seemed little chance for even the little bit of the Bend to remain unscathed, until a great tremor struck the earth, throwing everyone present to the ground, stunned. In the relative silence, a blinding white light flashed through the misty skies, and someone yelled, "Alendi! The Hero has reached the Well of Ascension!" As if in response to the cry, the earth began to reshape itself, a mound rising from beneath the Copperneck River as the nearby buildings fell. With a mighty roar the river burst from it's bed and surged towards the fallen Spiked and their victims. Folk grabbed for something to cling to as the water swept across the town, shattering the burned homes and leaving scarcely a trace of the town that had once been known as Copper's Bend. The Spiked have won! Congratulations to Archer and Quirksliver for the destruction of Copper's Bend. I'd like to thank @Devotary of Spontaneity for IMing the game, and everyone for excellent RP that made this game a lot of fun to run. I'd love to hear what y'all though about it and whether it's worth running a similar game in the future. Note: I called the game before parity because the village had basically no agency left, and the elims would win unless they attacked Dasenk before Rem got voted for. Apologies to anyone who thinks this was the wrong call, in retrospect I should have consulted a few people prior to making that decision. As a consolation, all the living villagers can decide their own fates. Doc Links: Player List: -

Deep into the night, Onon found Arwhin on the mayor’s porch, gently rocking a finely crafted chair in the mist-filled darkness. Noticing his friend, Awhin raised a hand and gestured to the seat next to him, an invitation. Onon took the seat, sighing lightly as he rested his wounded arm. The two of them sat silently for some time, enjoying the simple pleasures of each other’s company and the cool night air. Eventually, Onon turned to the mayor and spoke. “Things are bad. I’m expecting the Spiked come for me tonight.” Arwhin grunted his reply. “That’s what you get for sticking out like a sore thumb. And yeah, it looks rough. If it weren’t for that Pending…” The mayor’s face contorted in anger. Onon glanced over, concerned, but decided not to confront Arhwin about his rival. The mayor spoke again. “I’ve got something here for you… Augh!” Arwhin, in the midst of reaching into his pocket, recoiled in shock. “What is it?” Arwhin reached back in, more gingerly this time, and withdrew a somewhat squashed frog. “I’ve no idea where this came from.” He tossed it to Onon. “But it seems to have been swapped for my note. No matter. Wouldn’t do any good if you’re right about the Spiked. Maybe you can divine something from that frog’s spirit about how to live the night.” He said the last words only half-jokingly. Onon caught the frog, frowning at it. “Maybe I’ll do just that. Thank you for the seat. I needed this, in the middle of everything else going on.” The two men clasped arms, and Onon stepped out of the lantern-lit porch onto the mist-covered road. As Onon neared his home, a cloaked form stepped out of the darkness, brandishing a knife at Onon. He flung out his arms in reflex, and the frog flew into the attacker’s face, who let out a sudden cry. Onon fled into a nearby alley, a grim smile on his face at the success of Arhwin’s “gift”. Another person stepped out in front of Onon, and a shock of recognition registered on Onon’s face before the second person swung a sword, neatly severing Onon’s head. Onon Khentii was a Vanilla Villager! Day 3 has begun, and will end at 6PM EST on Saturday the 2nd. Player List: -

Long Game 98: A Tale of Mists and Metals

Following Rem's survival, Sonoluminescence was quick to acknowledge that she was had not been involved. Unfortunately for her, the townsfolk had trouble stomaching the presence of so many loyal villagers with access to pewter and iron. Arwhin and Pending had both been emphatic about the danger Copper's Bend was in, and most everyone trusted at least one of the two. Near midday, Pending caused something of a stir by the means of an obscure Terrisian holiday. As none of the current residents of the Bend had been to Terris, they didn't object too much (aside from Arwhin, who nobody took heed of). But when his disturbance ended, nothing much had changed besides Sirta's temper being roused and some beer staining a wall of the local tavern. When the votes had been tallied, Pending, Rem, and Rilla cornered Sono, intent on her execution. In a last ditch attempt to preserve her life, the architect burned iron, only to realize that the folk coming for her bore no metals. Sono checked the other blue lines her power revealed, but none of them was substantial enough to grasp, and shortly her reserves of iron ran dry. Empty of power, and abandoned by friends, Sono was unabe to stop the crowd from hauling her off the the gallows. But upon inspection of her corpse and belongings, it became clear that Sono was a loyal villager. Sonoluminescence was a Village Lurcher! Night 2 has begun, and will end at 6PM EST on Thursday the 30th! Vote Tally Sonoluminescence (5): Jorrick, Onon, Pending, Rem, Rilla Pending (3): Dasenk, Sirta, Sonoluminescence Player List: -

Rem awoke with a start to the squealing of hinges. No matter how much he greased it, his front door would never stay quiet. He rose slowly out of bed, reaching around before closing his hand on a solid wooden staff. A figure crept by his bedroom, a knife clutched in on hand. Noticing Rem was already alerted, the intruder stood up, appearing to weigh his options. Rem hefted his dueling cane, then opened his other hand, revealing a coin. "You come after me, maybe you win, and maybe you don't. But we both get hurt. So how about a wager? Heads, you leave. I haven't seen your face. Tails, I'll make it easy for you." The masked figure hesitated for a moment before nodding. Rem tossed the coin and both of their faces were glued to the bit of metal as it tumbled through the air. It bounced twice on the wooden floor before tipping to one side, displaying the face of a Khlenni ruler. Rem glanced back up to see the intruder slipping out into the night. He was doubly lucky, to have won the toss and to have been attacked by someone with at least a scrap of honor. Somewhat unfortunate, that he'd likely never be able to wager with higher stakes for the rest of his life. Revir spent his nights in a warehouse, full of an assortment of supplies that Arwhin had traded with the Hero's passing army for. No food of course, the mayor kept a tight grip on food, ostensibly to distribute it fairly. But medical supplies, fresh lumber, and even some spare weapons were stacked in neat piles in the otherwise open space. Of course, Revir had stolen the warehouse, which made all of the supplies his. Tonight he was returning from the mayors house, slightly disappointed with what he was adding to his stash. Arwhin had pulled a Spiked from Wendarr's body and taken it back to the manor, but Revir hadn't been able to find it anywhere. As a consolation, he'd taken a silver paperweight from the fellow's desk. Better than nothing, he supposed. Rounding the final corner, Revir caught an exclamation, carried by a breeze through the mists. "Gotcha!" He felt a shock of terrible pain as a handful of coins sprayed into his body. As Revir fell to the ground, a cloaked figure strode out from the mists and pried the object from his hands. The attacker stared in shock at the paperweight for a moment before muttering, "Well, that's not a spike." Dropping another coin, Revir's killer lauched up into the misty night while Revir's vision faded to black. Jorrick was up early, intent on putting some finishing touches on the gallows. The mayor had been rather urgent in his request, so Jorrick had complied, but good work couldn't be done that quickly. The carpenter smoothed some of the edges around the front before rising to inspect the raised platform. That was when they noticed the message, scrawled across the supporting beams, presumably by the same Tineye that had been anonymously delivering messages. It read: Rem was attacked, but survived! Revir was a Vanilla Villager! Day 2 has begun, and will end at 6PM EST on Wednesday the 29th. Player List:- 421 replies

Stranger though he was, "Lord" Pending had done an excellent job mingling with the folk of Copper's Bend, seeking out their opinions and apparently making an effort to root out the Spiked. Arwhin had to admit to himself that his initial impression of the man was wrong. Pending was not just a silly fop, but had some idea of how to lead. Pending's first accusation had been made toward Sonoluminescence, which he'd surprisingly been able to pronounce on his first try, and the rest of the villagers considered his opinion for much of the day. Still, the rest of the folk were set enough in their ways to have sided with Arwhin in regards to the leadership of the town. Of course, they didn't come out and say it, per se, but Arwhin figured that making fun of Pending's name was basically the same thing. The psychic, Onon Khentii, led this coalition of dissenters, likely motivated in part by Pending's dismissal of his abilities. Revir briefly followed his lead, and for a while Arwrhin was hopeful that Pending would be dealt with, not bothering with the fact that the two folks opposing Pending were perhaps the sketchiest of all of the Bend's residents. When the day's end drew near, the vote was tied, with Onon joined by a defensive Sono supporting the death of Pending against the unlikely pair of Dasenk and the gambler Rem, each pushing to kill Sono. Seeing his chance, Arwhin stepped upon the platform supporting the gallows and called to everyone present. "The vote is tied, but we cannot afford to give the Spiked any more time. Grab Pending! He's the stranger, surely he is more deserving to die than Sonoluminescence, who designed... uh..." Arwhin scratched his head, unable to think of any architectural work that Sono had actually done. "Never mind that. The point is, Pending butted in here and is clearly a Spiked trying to disrupt our chances of catching them. Arrest him!" Silence fell over the square, but nobody moved toward Pending. After a short while, Pending face spread into a smile, and he addressed Arwhin directly. "You forget, 'mayor', who came up with this plan. The rules state that nobody will hang if the vote is tied." Turning to speak to everyone, he continued in a louder voice. "And if we can't trust the voice of the folk of Copper's Bend, well, what can we trust? I suggest you all retreat to the safety of your homes for the night." His words were met with a scattered applause followed by the mass desertion of the square, leaving just Pending and Arwhin facing each other. Pending tipped an imaginary hat to Arwhin as he turned to leave. "Nice try old man, but you'll have to try harder than that to get rid of me." Nobody was executed! (for real this time) Night 1 has begun, and will end at 6PM EST on Monday the 27th!
