Long Game 98: A Tale of Mists and Metals
Araris Valerian replied to Araris Valerian's topic in Sanderson Elimination
The first light of day shone upon Arwhin's desk and the mess of scribbled notes thereupon. The mayor, who was slumped over the desk, twitched before blearily opening his eyes. He'd been up well into the night working on a plan for uncovering the Spiked, but nothing had really stood out. Still, part of being mayor was projecting an air of confidence, even if you didn't really feel that way. Arwhin did have a plan. If you could call it that. Hopefully some information would turn up before the situation devolved any further. Muttering the words of a prepared speech to himself, Arwhin was approaching the town square when he began to hear someone speaking. As he got closer, it became clear that, in fact, someone was giving a speech. Arwhin pushed his way through the small crowd that had already gathered and caught the last words of a stranger, dressed in a rather ostentatious Klenni suitcoat, speaking before the townsfolk. "... and that, my good fellows, is how we will defeat the Spiked!" Arwhin squared his shoulders and marched up to the newcomer. "And who, if I might ask, are you?" The stranger smiled patronizingly at the mayor. "Why, I'm Lord Pending, of course. Sent by the Hero himself to administrate this region. Good thing too, seems like the lot of you are in a pickle. I've just finished explaining to these fine folks how we are to proceed." Arwhin was flustered. "Well, I have here the way that we will actually proceed, seeing as I'm the mayor. Copper's Bend doesn't put stock in lords, we've managed fine on our own. You may claim to be sent by Alendi, but he passed through here only a week prior. Certainly you'd have been with him then." "And how, if I may ask, were you planning on finding the Spiked?" "By consensus, of course. Let the townsfolk discuss and vote on who the believe to be Spiked." Pending scoffed, "Why, that's the precise plan I proposed. Surely you must be joking. I'll wager you sat in the back of the crowd, listening to my ideas. Can't be much of a mayor, can you?" Speaking over Arhwin's objections, Pending addressed the crowd once more. "Go along now. Daylight is burning, and I think we need as much time to discuss these matters as we can get." He waved his hand dismissively, and to Arwhin's dismay, most everyone followed the suggestion, dispersing to various corners of the town to discuss. Arwhin turned to confront Pending again only to see the man vanish into the daymists. Just this morning he had wondering if things could get any worse in Copper's Bend, but apparently they could. Day 1 has begun, and will end at 6PM EST on Sunday the 26th. PMs are Open (but must be RP of some form). Make sure to include both myself and Devo in all PMs you create. Our IM is @Devotary of Spontaneity, so let her know if you have any concerns about the game. Player List:- 421 replies

Arwhin woke up with a start. He'd been having a rather vivid dream about catching one of the Spiked responsible for the death's in Copper's Bend. As reality slowly replaced the vision, a mixture of dread and determination at what they must do settled into his heart. LG 98 is being restarted, I've pinged the original players below. Please notify me if you were in the game and would like to withdraw. Welcome to the village of Copper’s Bend! LG 98: A Tale of Mists and Metal occurs on Scadrial prior to the ascension of Rashek to Lord Ruler. The mists last long into the day in your village, and strange deaths have been occurring at night. Can you rally the townsfolk and hold out long enough for Alendi to save the world? This game must be played entirely in character, including your PMs. In your signup post include your character's name, occupation, and at least one significant character trait. Feel free to inquire about the setting or add to it as you wish, though I'll be sticking fairly close to my interpretation of the Mistborn canon in my writeups. The rules can be accessed at the link or in the spoiler below: The IM for this game is @Devotary of Spontaneity. Signups have begun and will last for 2 days, until Friday November 24 at 6:00 PM EST. This will be the standard rollover time as well, unless something comes up. Player List: Spectators: Pinch-Hitters: Quick Links: -

Okay, so we are going to restart this game, since I kinda ruined it for the elims. I apologize to everyone, this was completely on me. A new thread will go up asking for signups which will end this Friday at the standard rollover time. Anyone in this version of the game that didn't withdraw I will sign up automatically, so post in the thread if you want to withdraw from the game or change your character name. -

I'm not sure what happened, but I just recounted (again) and nobody had more than 1 vote during C1. Really sorry about that, gonna talk with Devo about what to do. -

Okay, the thread is open again, and I've edited the writeup, title, and VC to reflect what actually happened (I missed a vote retraction from Aeoryi/Scarlet). If anyone needs an extension to the turn to make up for the lost time let me know. -

Due to a clerical error, I'm locking the thread. I'll be busy the next 3 hours or so, and the results of the day may change. Locking the thread, and please don't write in docs or use PMs. -

Arwhin felt a bit guilty when he asked Jorrick to construct a gallows in the center of town. It wasn't his fault that the carpenter had garnered some suspicion, and they had to kill the Spiked somehow. And the fellow's work really couldn't be beat. In stark contrast were the now-infamous meat pies Karis was selling around town. The man claimed he was cutting his own throat with the prices he charged, but like as not, anyone who ate one would be better off cutting their own throat. Still, food was scarce. Even 1% meat was better than they might be looking forward to in the coming days. If only the things didn't look quite so... lumpy. Come the end of the day, the townsfolk had been unable to pick a victim. The suspicions of Jorrick never overtook the early accusations made against Sirta, and they only had the one gallows. It wouldn't be fair to pick one person over the other. If only the Spiked could be counted on to be so indecisive. With a sigh, Arwhin dismissed everyone, steeling himself for the coming night. He couldn't quite decide whether the bad taste in his mouth came from the pie. Suddenly, someone ran up to him out of the mists and notified him that Scarlet did not, in fact, support killing Jorrick. Arwhin quickly reconvened everyone and strung up the rather baffled Sirta before he could object. Upon searching the body, he discovered a spike, proof of the gentleman's treachery. Sirta was a Spiked Seeker! Night 1 has begun, and will end at 6PM EST on Wednesday the 22nd. PMs are Open. Make sure to include both myself and Devo in all PMs you create. Please welcome @DrakeMarshall, who is pinch-hitting for Violet Vote Count: Player List: -

As the end of the day drew near, Arwhin met with each of the active townsfolk in turn, asking for their current suspicion and sharing with them what he'd learned from the others. -

Just a reminder that references to "the rules" and "other games" are not really in the spirit of this game. If you want to say something like that please make something up (or in the case of the rules, refer to the character in-game that's enforcing them). -

Arwhin stood among the townsfolk, or at least those folk that had the respect of their fellows and whose opinions truly mattered. There had been another death in the night, proof that Wendarr had companions that still lived. As mayor, it was up to him to make sure something was done about it. Clearing his throat, Arwhin addressed the gathered crowd, "Men and women of Copper's Bend. Some darkness has overtaken our town, seeking to further the destruction already wrought by the Deepness. I call upon you to root out this evil by whatever means necessary. Come this evening, I expect you to have determined who is most likely to be Wendarr's accomplice. I will carry out the deed from there." Arwhin gave everyone a few moments to digest his words. Contrary to his expectations, most everyone seemed eager to start tearing the town apart for these Spiked. Dasenk quickly turned and began excitedly explaining his conspiracy theories to his neighbors, while Wendawa took the opportunity to pronounce further doom on anyone that was listening. Arwhin sighed, realizing he should have expected no less from them. Seeing that discussion was well underway, Arwhin departed the square. On the way back to his office, he deposited a few notes in a box that has sprung up overnight. Apparently a Tineye was willing to deliver private messages for folks. Could be useful, since the remaining Spiked could have eyes and ears anywhere. Kash was a Vanilla Villager. Day 1 has begun, and will end at 6PM EST on Tuesday the 21st. As a minor rules clarification, the elim kill can be submitted at the same time as another action. Also, while I'm leaving the win conditions as they are, I will call the game if it becomes impossible for the village to win (notably, this means most parity situations will result in an elim win due to tie votes not resulting in an exe) -

Thanks @Fifth Scholar for running this game! Had fun writing a character, even if my overconfidence got me killed early. Nice to know my instincts on Mat were right, even if I couldn't express them clearly. Good game everyone, and see you in the next one! -

Great! You've got plenty of time before the game starts, but I'd suggest you think of some occupation for your character. It should make interacting with the other players easier. If you would like suggestions or information about the setting, let me know. -

Is there anyone on the fence for this game that would likely join if I added some limited amount of OOC communication to the game? Some ideas being night-only OOC or a word limit.
