  1. If somebody is in perfect health (via gold compounding perhaps) and was given a Divine Breath, would they get to keep it? I know that most of the time it's a one-off thing, but if Hoid gold compounded beforehand and Lightwove himself into looking like some link to a Returned's past (or just went to the area on the planet where Returned can be bought/sold to heal things), would he be able to hold it long enough to just...keep it? Make it his own? I don't really have any Realmatics for this, but it would explain a couple things without him being Returned.
  2. I like the idea, but I think that there should probably be some more guidelines, such as: Races (As we're just starting out, it'd be nice to have general guidelines) Possible Planets (I know that there are SO many, and that this will probably turn inter-planetary, but in the beginning, we should probably just choose 1) Social Classes (Rich people, poor people, merchants, etc.) Force Affinity # of Force Users (It'd be rather hard to have everybody be a Jedi) We might also need people to submit applications so that their characters can't just do everything: Example: Dark Jedi born son of a Core World Senator, still has old connections, good at politics, smuggles while simultaneously managing the Droid Factory and Grand Spice Trade. Some sort of alternative area for factions to talk in--it's hard to play your character as if they don't have information that they just read here--I've seen some other RPs like Sanderson Elimination plan things in Google Docs. I don't mean that we should segregate the factions or anything, just that if one side is planning an attack or operation or something and has an in-game chance to coordinate their characters, they should be able to do so without the other side having to worry about trying not to think about the plan. Oh! Also, what's happened if this is circa +400? Any new tech we should know about? I have to say, it looks pretty fun though :-). Death Watch 2.0 anyone?
  3. I do believe that there are either theories or WoBs that a Ryshadium is one of the things many KR got as they...well, for lack of a better term, leveled up. So a Spren bonding to a Horse isn't that unlikely. Who knows, maybe the first Ryshadium were Spren who...wait for it...became horses! A bit silly, I know, but think of it like this: As a KR speaks more oaths, their spren can have more impact on the physical world (the Lift Interlude). So. Shardblade = the ability to kill Voidbringers and Thunderclasts. Shardplate = The ability to SURVIVE killing Voidbringers and Thunderclasts. Ryshadium would just = the ability for KR to GET to Voidbringers and Thunderclasts. Not every order had a travel Surge--would an Edgedancer really want to perpetually burn Stormlight in order to get to a location, or take the time (and Stormlight) to use an Oathgate if they could instead just use a supernaturally fast and bonded horse? It seems like it would make sense.
  4. The only vaguely soul-drinking thing that I can think of is Nightblood, the Honorblade consuming Stormlight might have just been the equivalent of wiggling a spear in the gut of whatever possible spren Szeth might have.
  5. There are two main points I want to make here: 1) Just because they call eachother Knights Radiant does not mean that they have some mystical sense of how one of them has reached a certain tipping point from apprentice to full Knight. They might just be calling eachother this because they're Surgebinders and they intend to speak the old oaths once again. From how easily Dalinar first simply gave Amaram the position of a Knight Radiant, there is probably a lot that he doesn't understand about them. (I'm just using that as one example, there are others.) 2) I would hazard a couple more guesses about prospective Knights Radiant: Szeth-son-son Vallano as a Dustbringer, and Adoin Kholin as a Skybreaker. There are, yet again, two main reasons for each of these guesses. --Adolin Kholin #1: He acts very confidently, and talks about dueling to punish the opponents of his father who are refusing to obey his commands and are siding with Sadeas. If I remember correctly, Shallan even noted how confidently he do everything when they met in the restaurant. In the Ars Arcanum, the two main traits for the Skybreakers are Just/Confident. --Adolin Kholin #2: He does the just thing instead of strictly according with the law and *SPOILER* (I've been away a while and forgot how to put spoiler tags into my text, sorry about that, going to put a couple spaces here instead.) crushes Sadeas like a squirming little bug. I know that Skybreakers do go strictly by the law, but for a potential act, it bodes promise. He did have the right to duel Sadeas, he just did it a bit sooner than the required date. --Szeth Vallano #1: Above all, Szeth was obedient and...if not precisely willing or eager until the end, he was courageous in what he did. Bold and Obedient, the two specifications for Dustbringers in the the Ars Arcanum. --Szeth Vallano #2: After all he's been through, does anybody really think that he would ever be able to pass judgement on others regardless of his feelings? Even though he obeyed his personal code, he most definitely did not obey the law, or even do necessarily just things. At least Sadeas earned what he received.
  6. It seems that Szeth corresponds well with the Dustbringers, as their qualities are that of Obedience and Bravery, but that his bond might have been ruptured by breaking the First Ideal and killing lots and lots of people. (Oh, and did I mention killing LOTS of people? Not exactly Life before Death.) Secondly, Strength before Weakness--he did not use his strength for the good of others, and he caused the weaknesses of others. You get the idea. He's basically a walking code book of First Ideal Violations. Every time he disobeys the laws of his people (such as cutting through stone), he believes he hears screaming, possibly from the continued breaking of part of the 2cnd Ideal, which would most likely have something to do with "I will obey my commands". There's literally no way out for him, so he is tormented constantly by his spren. Also, it is quite possible that the Stone Shamans have been corrupted by power and there is some custom which changes the power structure when the Desolations occur. They might have thrown him out from pure self-interest. People will be people everywhere. On the subject of the Honorblade/Nightblood thing, Nightblood and Nalan (think that's the Herald's name) might actually help him re-bond with his old spren. If they get him back to obeying more protection and Radiant-ish commands, then it might help heal his bond and reduce his screaming. Jezrien's Honorblade might have worsened things even if it wasn't the sole cause. It does seem to consume Investiture, as it was granting Szeth Windrunner abilities at the cost of him drawing in Stormlight in much greater amounts than Kaladin required. Personally, I haven't done that much research into the Honorblades, so I do not know if I they allowed the Heralds to draw in Stormlight. If they didn't though, then Szeth would have been continually drawing upon the broken bond with his spren for the ability to use Stormlight, just making things worse. *Disclaimer: I am not caught up on current theories/exposed theories, so many things in here may be obliterated by such theories. Therefore, if there are any theories like that, can somebody please post a link to them? I'm trying to get caught up on as much as I can, but it would help a lot. Thanks!
  7. This seems to fit especially well with a theory that I found somewhere on the site, once long ago, I don't know the link, most of what I do on here simply involves lurking. Anyways, the theory was that Hoid was recollecting samples of each Shard to reform Adonalsium. Instead, mayhaps he regains something of his old self/consciousness as he collects the samples.
  8. On a semi-related note that should probably go in the "Possible Spren" topic, or w/e it is called, what would happen if you had a Spren of Quantumness? O_o (Like a firespren or windspren, but a quantumspren. Would it exist in different ways if you looked at it and looked back? If you reached behind you (and it had a physical feeling) could it exist in both places at once? Etc.)
  9. One of the popular theories about Adonalsium is that it was either a conduit between a large power source of unknown origin (dark matter, etc., take your pick, we don't know.), or it is a power source. These theories refer to it as a "Shardic Lens", and many people envision it as a sheet of colored glass which all the different Shards used to be part of. Personally, my theory is that it was like these other shards except kind of an archtype of all the magics, and that Hoid was the...not sure how to put it. Spiritual aspect of Adonalsium maybe? Kind of if Adonalsium got shattered, but if Hoid is some kind of remnant of the intent that people imposed on it. (Like how Stormfather is shadow of the Almighty, and the spren are created by human thoughts/belief. A mix of those.)
  10. At the time, I had thought that Kaladin had accidently inhaled Syl and used her as Investiture in place of Stormlight. As the Radiants got into desperate situations, they might accidently 'kill' spren this way. I later scrapped that theory entirely, but that was my theory at the time. Since he was trying to protect Shallan, maybe his oaths were strong enough in that final instant to draw Stormlight in and lash them upwards a bit? Also, is it possible that Jasnah teleported to the Spiritual Realm? We have seen Returned be healed and we have seen them have knowledge of what is happening in the regular world, maybe Jasnah just had a disciplined enough mind that she could recall most of what happened before she went into the Spiritual Realm.
  11. There's already a theory on this in the Cosmere section besides from the perfect pitch (what he's doing), I'll try to find it quick and post a link. Edit: Found it! http://www.17thshard.com/forum/topic/3793-hoids-purpose/?hl=%2Bhoid+%2Bpurpose There's at least one thread for his purposes, probably others too, but this one has some nice theories.
  12. Part #1: Why can't Surgebinders just be a different name for Voidbinders? We don't really know what either of them was yet, and they could just be Cultivation's contribution to fighting the Desolations. The Voidbinding chart which has been pointed out before has similarities to the other chart, I forget what it is. Maybe the Surgebinding Chart? If so, just ignore what I already said in Part 1 :-). Part #2: Jezrien- supposed to be honorable, a leader. You wouldn't want a huge, gigantic Shardblade as you are flying through the air towards somebody, and honor = Windrunner, so a smaller blade, like Szeth's, would make sense. Kaladin and Szeth have been seen to do different things (Ring of Stormlight pushing out after Second Ideal, and the anti-falling thing Kaladin did when he fell from the bridge.) Who says that Szeth couldn't receive the ability to do basic Windrunning stuff with Jezrien's Honorblade, which has been stated to be different from normal Shardblades? Part #3: Humans aren't native to Roshar, so who says that Honor created them? Maybe he made the Aimians and settled them in Urithiru, as guardians for his Shardpool which might potentially have been there. The Aimians could have blue blood, we haven't seen them bleed yet. Cultivation could be purple, and Odium could be orange. If you mix blue/orange, you sort of get a purplish color, and it would account for pretty much everything we have seen on Roshar. Part #4: The moons. I haven't really seem them much, but I HAVE seen references to other planets in other posts. Maybe the Tranquiline Halls (or whatever they were called) were on the blue moon with Honor? If anybody sees any holes, please feel free to take a axe to these theories :-).
  13. They could have just set off a couple of explosions for the blast waves, or even just recorded some and played them. I'm not an expert on sound and all that, but I think there are a good number of ways to fake sound without superpowers.
  14. One of the things that we have to remember is that even when Vin turned into Preservation, she kept her own consciousness. Even if the Shard would prevent her from Ruining things, Vin still had emotions, thoughts, and feelings of her own. She was a living thinking being first and a Shard second.
  15. Primary Powers: Temperature manipulation. (Example: If I'm very mildly irritated at some bureaucrats in a closed room with no windows, the room might spontaneously go up to around 105 Degrees F, or if it is summer, the room might drop to 10 degrees C.) Unaffected by any range of temperatures or pressure changes, with a limited invulnerability to kinetic energy. (Aka if you go up and shoot him in the face with a shotgun, he will be fine. But if you have a firing squad of fully automatic rifles on shooting him, he goes down in a few seconds.) Finally, he can also teleport once every five hours up to 400 meters away, without line of sight. If he gets stuck underground or something like that, he just melts the soil around him. Secondary Powers: Limited X-Ray vision, can see through about two feet of solid material in any direction. Also, slow regeneration and a uber-high level of damage that must be reached before he is dead. This doesn't mean that he can't feel pain or get hurt, it just means that he might slowly regenerate his body over a day or two and come back. Weakness: On the 13th minute of the 13th hour of the 13th day of the month, he doesn't have that Epic disregard for other people for 24 hours. In addition, his regeneration, invulnerability, and death ceiling are all disabled until the 14th hour of the 14th day. Brand of Evilness: When he gets bored, he makes there be contrasting levels of heat where many people are walking. For example, your face would feel freezing, your core would be overheating, and your legs would be turning into icicles. He prefers freezing people then heating them up. Cheesy Name: Brain Freeze
  16. You know, if they just hired some assassin from Europe who was used to killing people with a sniper rifle and paid them money to shoot Steelheart, that might work. I mean, even if Steelheart has his Epic costume on whoever hired him could say "We would shoot him ourselves, but we don't have a sniper rifle expert. Go get that (names random type of Epic with no inviciblity so that the guy won't be scared.). Seems like that would work.
  17. I think that the spot that she spawns isn't entirely random. If she only remembers a few things from each of her previous lives, then how did she know about the "caches" she mentions. Maybe her weakness is that she has to prepare a place ahead of time to reincarnate at or she can't reincarnate. Also, on the subject if keeping her locked up, unless you tossed a smoke grenade in the room or something similar before you entered, you would have no clue where she was within the room. She could make it seem like she was walking around freely, or that the room was to the right of where it actually is so that if you go to the center of the room to try and find her you wouldn't be able to.
  18. Dang it, I found a problem: They described him several times in the book as being like a machine, yet we never see him work out to form the type of endurance or strength he would need to do some of these things. That raises the question: Does the healing also help with his reaction time, renewing his stamina, oxygen, and all of that? Because if it does, he could just litterally tear and tear and tear away at everything with his bare hands and, as he would be able to heal them and his ability to tear away, he would have to be constantly imprisoned within new layers. Either that or you have to make some kind of shrink-wrapped prison to him. HOWEVER, if he gets in enough pain, might he just give up and stop using the healing powers and all that? If he would, then we would have a win.
  19. Well, that does make sense. I don't think David would ever get enough confidence to be an Epic if the above theory is right UNLESS he finally gets metaphors that everybody appreciates more xD.
  20. Maybe he would still care about people who were very close to him, I mean, he didn't kill David/Megan after fighting the mechs in the street where he almost went dark-side, same with the Steelheart fight/explosion. Also, we know for a fact that he can only use the tensors from his hands, because otherwise he would have just vaporized the whole area in the fight against the mechs with David/Megan, he could have evaporated the mechs, all the guns, armor, etc, and THAT would have been more dramatic for Limelight, so I think he would have done it. Also, it would have greatly imporved his chances of not getting shot in the face (although he doesn't really care about that.). Edit: Simple: Tie him down with the glue/ducktape/organic material and all that, then plant some bamboo under him. It has been proved that it can grow through people tied down over it if they have enough time, and it could grow up around him into a pure, organic prison.
  21. Yeah, it was a long shot, but honestly I don't see much else I can think of that we know yet besides Urithiru falling from the sky to shatter the plains. And, for all we know, Natanatan (Eastern) was the conflict and the middle of it was close to the front lines, but still. Maybe the Shattering of Honor happened there instead? We don't really know what that type of thing might cause.
  22. I think that even if his powers weren't manifested, then David would still have registered as an Epic if his weakness was Epics. I think it is more likely that in one of the future books he will want to save Megan, and he will turn into an Epic and have to deal with the problems of it. Really great idea though, when I read Mitosis I noticed how it the weakness always seems to be something from the past. How about this: Crossfire used to be in the US army, but after being pinned down from all sides by whoever the US was fighting at the time, she just wanted to be able to ____(Insert power here, they never mentioned it, presumably it was just the prime invincibility of not getting hurt unless attacked 5 diff ways), and they wrecked the other people, came home while the US was still working b4 it passed the Capitulation Law, and they went to Mexico to set themselves up as an Epic ruler.
  23. You guys are going about this wrong. Instead of treating him like an Epic with the ability to escape from anywhere inorganic, shield himself from high kinetic damage, (Wait--What if it shields from ALL high energy? Explosions can be thermal AND kinetic, yet it still shielded. By by lasers/snipers.) and uber-Wolvering healing powers, think of him as a person trapped in a cage of maybe the hardest organic material on earth. http://news.discovery.com/tech/print-body-armor.htm Tougher than stainless steel and even the previous record holder, bulletproof Kevlar, a new, transparent material developed by scientists in Israel is the hardest organic nanostructure known to man. It is also incredibly tough. Only a diamond-tipped probe could penetrate the material -- and to make a dent the probe needed to use twice the pressure of what it would take to make a mark in Kevlar. Ladies, gentleman, aliens form other planets, THAT is what we need to trap him with. Shoot Tia in the leg and put her in the center of a stadium. Have the floor be made of the organic material (similar to Alzheimers brain plaque, the link says), have holes in the floor that allow glue through, and soak the entire stadium after he gets in. He will be stuck for a minute or two, as he would have to vaporize a whole path to the exit, not to mention that the organic material might shield the glue a bit. In the meantime, have a hidden team in the stands with bullets made of the organic structure. Have them shoot him as much as they can to distract him. Detonate a brilliant flare of light overhead to blind him momentarily, and have people with sunglasses or something similar to shield their eyes rush in with water (to wet the glue and allow them to get to Prof) before ducktaping his eyes. If he can't see, he can't focus the tensors, as humans use sight more than other senses. Cuff his hands with the organic material, and use the organic material as a chain to--you guessed it-- MORE organic material than he can move. Mix the organic material with used chewing gum (seriously, that stuff is REALLY annoying/sticky), and paste it over the rest of his hands so that he can't break his thumbs to get out of the cuffs. Seeing as how there is nothing in the book about an increased pain tolerance, if you put a swarm of army ants from the Amazon onto him, then he should be in too much pain to do anything. If he still isn't dead, make him force-swallow three of those universal blasting caps and shoot him with the gauss gun. Set the caps off immediately before firing the gun, as hopefully all of his vital systems flying through the air would allow the gauss gun to bypass the shield. Edit: I know this sounds a bit extreme, but if he goes super-evil corrupted Emperor from Star Wars, this should take him down.
  24. Maybe Natanatan is the area where the Radiants abandoned their Shardplate/Shardblades, if Feverstone Keep is supposed to be far away from the fighting, then the Radiants who abandoned stuff there might have been at the center of the Shattered Plains. If 300 people, each of them weighing about 350 pounds counting Shardplate land in the same area over a matter of second, then there would have been 105,000 pounds crashing down onto the plains. That sounds like it might cause some instability that could eventually turn into the Shattered Plains. (This is a conservative guess on the Shardplate weighing about 200 pounds and all of the Radiants being fit, not sure how much it would actually weigh.)
  25. Just...whoah. That is amazing!
