  1. For me it would have to be an RPG type similar to SAO
  2. Everyone should get their own string instrument, that way we all get an official 17th Shard Sticktm to play them with.
  3. Hmm. . . Compound Gold to heal any incidental damage he may receive, Compound Steel to move faster than pretty much anything, Compound Zinc to have a near infinite amount of time to plan every attack and counter Compound Chromium to be unbelievably lu- "Hey! I just found a bag of Atium!" Burn Steel to turn coins into bullets Burn Duralumin to turn any other power into a super power Burn Brass to soothe all emotions other than hopelessness Burn Bronze to detect any investiture being used Burn Tin for enhanced senses And of course, Atium. At this point I'm still trying to figure out how he managed to get taken out in the first book.
  4. I completely understand how you feel about your co-worker not seeing the brilliance that is Sanderson. Look at the bigger picture. You convinced 20 people to read Brandon's books, and they loved them. The 21st didn't. That is more than a 95% conversion rate. I'd call that a win. If we all had those kinds of numbers, we wouldn't be on 17th Shard. We'd be in line to see WoK on IMAX. Good work
  5. There is something I've always wondered with tapping luck. If it was your intent to win the lottery, would you: a) Tap luck when choosing the numbers? b)Tap luck and let the computer choose them? c)Tap luck when you physically purchase the ticket? d)Tap luck when the numbers are being drawn? Just curious as to everyone's thoughts about how it would work.
  6. The problem with this entire question is that we are comparing Vin, at the end of her story, against Shallan at the beginning of hers. Other than Marsh (a shard controlled, hemalurgically altered creature) there was no one on Scadrial who could stand up against pre-ascension Vin. Also, we as readers know most of the different ways Vin could game the system to win. Shallan on the other hand is barely a Radiant. Not only that, but she is a non-combat radiant with no real world skills. We simply do not know enough of what a Lightweaver is capable of. Book 10 Shallan may very well be able to wipe the floor with Vin, but book 2 Shallan? Her best bet is to hide and hope Vin gets caught in a high storm.
  7. When you start thinking Roshar is affecting the real world. Weakest eye colour
  8. In the beginning there were three realms, and never did they meet. In time, there grew a tree, with roots in the physical, branches in the cognitive, and leaves in the spiritual. All was well. There was peace in the Cosmere for a great long while when arose the most heinous of creations, the Matchendi. The Firebringers. The Firebringers threatened the life of the Tree. The very connection binding the Cosmere together. The Tree is old and wise and knew it could not do battle directly with the Firebringers. It brought forth a portion of itself, a portion with connections to all tree realms, and so was born the first Stickbinder. The Stickbinder sallied forth do battle with the unholy Matchendi. The cry of “I am a STICK”, dousing their flames and bringing fear to the cajun fried hearts of the Firebringers. Alas, though the Stickbinder was strong the Firebringers were numerous, and the last that was heard was the defiant cry “STICK” before being consumed. Fear not, the sacrifice of Stickbinder Prime (as it shall forever be known) was not in vain. The Tree was able to bring forth many more Stickbinders. All the worlds were populated by Sticks. The Matchendi saw this, and were afraid. So arose the Church of the Stick. It is the solemn duty of all Sticks to guard against the return of the Firebringers, and live lives of Sticky goodness after the example of Stickbinder Prime. Excerpt from “I am a STICK: The true story of Stickbinder Prime”
  9. Wayne and Lopen would be an unbeatable hilarious team
  10. These sound interesting I'm going to go find some of them. Thanks a lot for the help.
  11. Hi everyone I need a little bit of help before the festivities begin tomorrow. Every time a Wheel of Time book came out, I've developed a ritual/tradition/etc of how I've enjoyed it, and with WoR I am looking at continuing it. Massive Book . . . . . . . almost Big comfy couch. . . . . . check Large quantities of microwavable food so as to not lose time to cooking . . . . . check Mini fridge stocked with Coke and said food. . . . . .check Mini fridge hooked up beside couch . . . . check Microwave hooked up on top of mini fridge . . . . check Appropriate background music. . . . I've tried asking friends and family for suggestions, but, they are less than helpful (they don't read). So, I've decided I would beg the help of the only people who would understand. What do you feel would comprise the best playlist to listen to while reading? I'm not talking about "good" music that is popular on the radio. That can be very distracting. I'm looking for something that can be played in the background, provide the right feel, but not pull my attention away from enjoying this long awaited tome. Happy Release Day
  12. This is Shallan witnessing the result of Adolin deciding to put a certain bridgeman in his place
  13. The Walking Dead: Roshar Edition
  14. This is most likely because a dun sphere could be a fake ie. cubic zirconia vs diamond whereas only a true sphere can be infused.
  15. Shallan vs Wit in the Battle of the Comebacks This could be a verrrry interesting scene
  16. Thanks Shardlet, this is what I was looking for.
  17. I'm mostly concerned with the mechanics of the surge itself. If such a thing is possible then that opens the doors to different ways to take advantage of it. Naval combat may be a bit overly optimistic, but if any liquid water could be separated to form a mixture of Hydrogen and Oxygen gas then there are possibilities that can be explored.
  18. This is just wild speculation, but i'm curious. If a Dustbringer can split molecular bonds, s/he should be able to split salt water into its constituent components. If this were in fact possible would that mean that there would be pure hydrogen, oxygen, chlorine, and sodium. Hydrogen and Oxygen in gaseous form would be highly volatile and the now pure Sodium would react with whatever water was left over, causing a flame resulting in a fairly spectacular explosion. Alternatively, could a Dustbringer separate the Chlorine from salt water resulting in Chlorine gas. I could, and probably am, wildly off base. But if not, a Dustbringer could be the ultimate weapon in any form of naval combat.
  19. edited to remove unintended weirdness. my apologies
  20. In a straight up, no surprise fight szeth would win hands down. Kaladin has access to more raw power than szeth but doesn't have anywhere near the mastery of it. Szeth walks through shardbearers without slowing down. That being said, in the book, I believe if they fought Kaladin would win. The only reason I believe this is the surprise factor. Szeth will attack Kaladin like he would any other dark-eye spearman. Szeth would be glowing, Kaladin would suck up all of Szeth's stormlight stored in gems, Szeth would be shocked, Kaladin would follow with spear to the heart. Game over. Duel where both combatants know the abilities of the other: Szeth Wins Actual Combat: Kaladin Wins
  21. lol. absolutely. I wouldn't be entirely shocked if he put something into a book that had a completely plausible, non magical reason, simply because he wanted to watch us come up with hilarious magical theories. and then lead us on for a year with RAFO's.
  22. I think everyone is looking for an arcane answer when a practical one would make more sense. Jasnah would have already left her first location by the time Shallan received her summons. Jasnah would have left her second location by the time Shallan reached the first. Jasnah had quite a lead on Shallan, however, Jasnah stopped and researched at each port while Shallan simply hopped back aboard her ship. It would simply be a matter of time before Shallan caught up.
  23. With the Parshendi's reliance on Spren to change forms, it would definitely be interesting to see what would happen if Shen attracted an honour/cultivation type Spren. It's really corny but I can just imagine Bridge 4 being caught out in a Highstorm. Stormlight surrounds Shen, and a voiceover saying, "Shen has evolved into . . . . UberShen." storming pokemon
  24. I'm thinking Shen could become some sort of liason between Dalinar/Kaladin and Eshonai
  25. I read somewhere a long time ago something that has stuck with me. Sufficiently advanced technology is indistinguishable from magic. This is easy enough to see in our own culture. Just a few centuries ago, someone talking into a cellphone would have been burned as a witch. Brandon’s approach to magic through a scientific manner, I have found, is unique among fantasy writers. A logical (to me), extension of advanced tech vs magic would be, a sufficiently advanced being is indistinguishable from god. In WoK, the Almighty being Honour is an example of this. An even better one would be Sazed/Harmony. Even a Shard of Adolnalsium has the power to create life as he/she/it sees fit. However we know that Sazed/Harmony does not perceive himself to be a god. One of the reasons I have enjoyed so much of Brandon’s work is because the very nature of the universe he has created has forced me to take a look at my own beliefs (without saying what or if they are ) and filter them through this perspective. All in all, I believe Brandon’s work with and portrayal of religious beliefs, or the lack thereof in the case of Jasnah, to be inspired.
