They're now reprinting them / recoloring them. Pretty good stuff, though there was a censoring issue with #1. I would recommend reading them, of course.

I figured something was going to happen to Fables with Buckingham. Marvel was eventually going to be redoing Miracleman, and when they did that, he / Gaiman would need to finish up the final issues of it - though I can't imagine what, if anything follows the final arc, The Dark Ages.
-
All three of those are really good. Fables is my favorite currently monthly, and I'm sad to see it end. Hickman has great ideas, though I think his dialogue tends to be a bit week. There's an older series he did, Pax Romana that really blew my mind. Unwritten is pretty interesting. I prefer Carey / Gross's previous series Lucifer much more. I don't know if you've not seen it, but Warren Ellis had a fun webcomic, FreakAngels. It's still online, iirc. Nice read.

I had been under the idea that if Elkohar is to be a radiant, he would most likely be a Willshaper. From the description of them, they seem kind of flighty and unreliable, which is Elkohar entirely. I would not put it past the spren he was seeing to be not be necessarily cryptics but voidspren instead. If not him, then surely his wife was influenced by them as she seems to have been rather despicable, to put it mildly.

Cultivation in that context is generally fertility related. Primary fertility gods (generic) were were generally female, with Demeter / Ceres being the more easily known ones. The tale of Persephone / Hades exemplifies the female divinity in agricultural growth. Interestingly there is clear examples of that aspect of cultivation, but Brandon stated in a WOB that Cultivation was more aligned with Odium in the sense that Cultivation is about *change*. I'm too obtuse to thing along those lines generally, though.

Investigation: Investiture as a Spiritual Radiation
weebojello replied to Tempus's topic in Cosmere Discussion
Similar to radiation, are you suggesting there is a decay as well? The relative power level of every shard seems to be relatively constant, minus the investiture made into the world they inhabit. So, Odium really has two ways to be defeated - 1)Hope worlds and lose sufficient power and 2) Wait. A really, really long time. Mostly I say this, as I don't know that there's anything sufficiently explaining how or even if a shard can "regenerate" it's power level. Sentience, evidently given a long period of time, yes, but raw power? Has there been any discussion of that by Brandon?- 22 replies

Dalinar has a shardblade, not an honorblade. The blade that Taln, or the entity known as Taln, has at the end of book 1 is not the blade that Dalinar has at the end of book 2. It remains to be seen in book three what Kaladin will do with his spare blade.

So, lets say we have what is it, 6 Unmade? 7? Nonetheless, lets say you have a fixed number of Unmade, and it's less than 10. Sticking with this, we know the following: 1) With dawnshards (which we are all unsure of), they could be bonded / bound. 2) As splinters, they too could be "splintered". That's technically more a possibility is it not? If all the splinters are in turn splintered - bereft of conscious will, left only on unfocused intent - would that not permanently stymie Odium?

My thought has long been that there's a retention system of some sort for maxed out Radiants. The reasoning is this: Heralds go through a lot of stormlight. The purported herald Taln (whomever it really is), appears to me to have a different physiology. This is similar, in my mind, to other entities in the Cosmere that have a "perfected" physiology: The Returned (Warbreaker, Lightbringer, etc) on Nalthis, Elantrians (Raoden, etc) on Sel. Consider then the description of Kaladin with Stormlight. It perfects. So, knowing that we have entities that have a "perfected" physiology on at least two planets, I've thought the Heralds were perfect containers for Stormlight. Given especially that it's not unreasonable to suggest that the first desolations were pretty much just the Heralds going against Odiums forces by themselves / with little or any help. And therefore they'd need vast sums of stored stormlight to take on other entities that have perfect storage. We see this in the prologue in Way of Kings. Kelek meets Jezrien. In the description of them meeting, no where is there stated a "backpack full of spheres" anywhere. Given the amount of stormlight clearly needed for an extended apocalyptic battle, the lack of spheres for the primary powerhouses (Heralds) gives another indication that they themselves housed the stormlight. Now, the spren in copying what Honor did to the Heralds, most likely also have come up with a solution to this problem as well. What that is, I don't know. I had originally thought the spren / human merged in a total symbiosis. However, knowing now that a knight dying while upholding the oaths is not in and of itself a catastrophic event to the spren gives me pause. But I second guess that. The Nahel bond appears to be a connection that is at the outset cognitive initially, merging spiritual with the oaths, allowing for some physical upgrades each time. And so I ponder. And ponder.

I agree on Zahel. With nightblood around, Zahel evening the odds seems appropriate. Dalinar or even Adolin remain obvious choices as well, but in the end, I think Zahel would be an awesome master for it.

Why didn't the stormlight heal Kaladin's scars?
weebojello replied to eveorjoy's topic in Stormlight Archive
I think that's a really great way of looking at it, and I've been thinking along the same lines. I think the conflict / 4th ideal for him to overcome will be met in Alethkar when he goes back to Hearthstone....perhaps after that he might be healed. There's enough conflict left for him to eventually heal to the person he needs to be. -
Adolin Kholin, the uncut gem (WoR spoilers, right?)
weebojello replied to banestar's topic in Stormlight Archive
Based on Way of Kings, I thought Cryptics as well. Then I recollect the Moechel (sp??) Unmade that Taravangian references in one of the chapter headings and talking about "Kingship". So maybe that was in reference there. I'm of mixed opinion regarding Adolin. Certainly he seems a natural for Talenal's order, however ... given his killing of Sadeas, that seems a bit more "Justice" like, a bit more actual Radiant Skybreaker. That would lead to some interesting conflicts with Shallan down the line I think, if Brandon went that way. When he was talking to his sword both times prior to duels, I kept on waiting for a response from the sword. Especially given the inability to control it as he once did prior. Something is happening to him, surely. -
Which EP was that? I loved that series, though season 4 being cut short plot wise wasn't the best. =/

There is also the uber rare "PAFO", and Peter did grace his presence on this thread as well.

Surgebinding Mistborn? More Speculations about Hoid
weebojello replied to Khyrindor's topic in Cosmere Discussion
It seems bonded spren may be shardblades. The lack of glowing (from Radiants) being because the spren has been cutoff or ripped from the bond. Honorblades seem to be given or constructed by Honor solely. Hence, spren in binding to humans ala the radiants and recreating the powers of the Heralds with Honorblades created the shardblades. When the recreance happened, the shardblades / plate could be considered fossilized, if you will, remnants of the bond. But we don't know for sure. Maybe WoR will clear this up.- 44 replies

IIRC, didn't he nearly come to blows with his brother, Gavilar, after one battle? I can't place my finger which chapter that was in.

Brandon stated that one herald went back for a blade. No one's 100% sure as to which did. There is much speculated that Szeth has it currently, which would imply Jezerian went back as it's also believed honorblades give surgebinding.

A 7 foot muscular member, at that. I think Dalinar's as of yet unseen spren put the notice on the wall. Looking forward to finding out!

Odd Surge out? (Or: One of these things is not like the others...)
weebojello replied to Oudeis's topic in Stormlight Archive
I've thought Transformation was rather natural given Cultivations influence. Cultivation is really creation, and what is transformation but creating something new from something old. No "new" matter is being created. Molecules of existing structures are being re-arranged to a consistent number of molecules in a new structure. So Division would be similar. Instead of re-arranging to completely new molecules, they are just broken down. It's the opposite, in one sense, of Transformation. A handy new chart at some point and seeing Radiants exploit the abilities more than we have seen will help clear this all up! -
Possible Reason for the Knights Radiants Betrayal
weebojello replied to Duskshard's topic in Stormlight Archive
Well, it's probably fair to point that since the breaking of the oathpact, Tanavast did die. It might very well be that Odium seeing the Oathpact broken opted to kill Tanavast who seemingly was unable ... figure out how to corral his heralds in line for some considerable amount of time. Odd, that.- 16 replies

Honorblades give people the power to surgebind.
weebojello replied to Scrutiny's topic in Stormlight Archive
Well, I had seen a post (maybe in this thread as well), that commented on the potential that after the Recreance and the loss of spren bond (in that there is no glow), it's possible that Odium has corrupted them. Or more accurately, Odium is able to affect the person *because* the spren bond has been broken. So, the sense *could be* that the Thrill is only possible in using the blades post recreance because the spren are no longer bonded / mimicking the Heralds. Pre-recreance would not have allowed for Thrill to be felt when using the blade. Just speculation on my part.- 43 replies

Honorblades give people the power to surgebind.
weebojello replied to Scrutiny's topic in Stormlight Archive
As I see it, Type 2 = blade without spren, and type 3 would be blade with spren. Similarly effective, but as of now the only difference that I think we can safely say is that type 3 include glow effects. Looking forward to finding out!- 43 replies

Should I buy the hard cover or ebook of WoR?
weebojello replied to eveorjoy's topic in Stormlight Archive
IIRC, the iBook version had the artwork in. A co-worker was showing it to me on his iPad. I plan on doing an autographed hard cover somehow. What I can't figure out is the Kindle version is saying March 6th, and the iBooks version is saying March 4th. What to do, what to do. -
Will Dalinar learn how Kaladin became a slave, in WOR?
weebojello replied to eveorjoy's topic in Stormlight Archive
I wonder if it were to happen, the context of the fight being that the third ideal, is one of forgiveness some how. In Kaladin forgiving Amaram, however unlikely that sounds, Kaladin gets a power up, ala Scott Pilgrim. -
I hadn't ever considered Sadeas' reaction. Wow, yeah...just deserts. So, list of people that will be most surprised by Kaladin's uberness. 1) Amaram - "W. T. F." 2) Sadeas - "DOH! How could I have been so stoooopid." 3) Dalinar - "Welcome, young man." 4) Adolin - "Game on." 5) Renarin - "Dude, 'sup?"
