Wish it was sooner than the 11th, but it is a more spectacular opportunity than good rates on a credit card! -
We Need to Check Tor Next Tuesday 02/04/2014

Well, I don't know what the standard unit of "glimpse" is like, but I went out and brought back a sub in anticipation this time. Learning from my mistakes! -
Anyone else wish WoR flashbacks weren't Shallans?
Bloodfalcon replied to Benjibooboo's topic in Stormlight Archive
I'm with you. Shallan is third to last on the list of characters I want back story on (the Kholin boys steal the show there). She is fairly young, and while that didn't stop Kaladin's flashbacks from being entertaining, she has said herself that she grew up in the same place and wasn't allowed to go do anything. So unless she contradicts herself, I think this is going to be a lot of seeing into the terrible things she has done and somehow convincing readers that she is still capable of being on the good side of things. I'm mildly curious about the first flashback piece we saw, but 70% of that curiosity is for what is in the safe, hahaha. I hope I am wrong and Brandon does convince me that Shallan should be absolved so she can fight voidbringers and I can cheer her on. Otherwise, Navani flashbacks would be very VERY informative in both Gavilar's story, Jasnah and Elhokar's stories, and in the way fabrials operate. That is the one that I could have used a bit more of. She's not my favorite personality-wise, but when I think of chapters well spent, I think Navani. -

I'm really excited. I still think it is going to be some artwork, but it could also be some WoR - steelhunt announcement. Maybe an interview with Brandon or something like that? I don't think they are going to give any more actual story content, but it would be a great way to promote the audio books if they streamed a chapter from that. -
Wow, you got it perfect. That's exactly what I had in mind, great work!

Looks great! Personal opinion - it looks like it is surrounded by feathers. If you could make it look like there was smokey-light coming off, that would be really cool.

Yeah, we know quite a bit. Elantris came first (only because Dragonsteel and Liar of Partinel aren't released), Then Mistborn, then something like WoK and Warbreaker are close to each other, and then AoL. I can try to find the quotes for you. I know there is another quote right from Brandon, but I cannot find it. The others info he gives on it is that he is planning to release a timeline for us, but not yet. Fingers crossed we get one tomorrow!

But the possibilities of the internet are endless!!!! (For reference, see below graphics.) Can Seattle do that? Edit: Also, check out how many boats are on the web right now. Very impressive.

Right, right. I understand the appeal, but I also thought it was the KR from the start, like the second time I read the quote "Unite them" and assumed Dalinar was wrong. So I was almost hoping that I was wrong and it would be a surprise for both Dalinar and myself.

I think he should make one additional stop on the trip that connects with more fans than any other destination: 17th Shard.

Thanks for linking that. I was trying to find it but I couldn't. I was almost disappointed that we found out so definitely,

That's a fun thought with the 9/10 stuff. I would love to make a theory about that, maybe around 1/10 people being able to surgebind and withstand the storm or something like that. Unfortunately I don't want to get to into that, because there is that WoB that magic on Roshar is not genetic. Technically it wouldn't have to be, but I still feel like I know so little about what does influence it that I want to just be lazy and wait for the next book. Cool idea though.

Brandon: So I felt that if I was going to have a supermyth, so to speak — an overarching paradigm for these books — it would have to have a number of things. One, it would have to be limited in scope, meaning I wasn't going to try to cram everything into it. That's why Alcatraz is not involved in any of this. Number two, I would have to plan it from the beginning, and number three, I would want it to be subtle. In other words, I don't want it to come to dominate any of the stories because I want the books, the series, to stand on their own. BRANDON SANDERSON It depends on what Brandon decides to do. We also might or might not get the rest of the story (pre-story). From a market standpoint it's not wise, simply because if the books require you to have read 32 other books before you read them it doesn't make sense to work on them. However, if the demand is high enough he MIGHT do them after all of the rest of the cosmere books. You might be interested in going to Theoryland and searching for "Cosmere" or other terms. It pulls up a lot of things that get burried.

I was disappointed to find a quote recently saying that the book we are hoping for - one with characters from all the different series - is only tentative and may not be written. If it is written, it will be at the very end of Brandon's career, and only if there is still interest in his writing. So. I hope things have changed, but I don't think you'll see much crossover in Stormlight Archive.

Will you skip ahead in Words of Radiance?
Bloodfalcon replied to eveorjoy's topic in Stormlight Archive
Hahaha, on top of being a slow reader (I like to take it all in), I also have to work the next day, so I need every head start I can get on this lot! It needs to be verrrrry carefully planned out. It is truly an Honor to accept the treasured title: GANCHO OF THE WEEK! I'd like to thank the Almighty of course, Brandon Sanderson, and anyone else who has proposed a theory that kept me captivated and hungering for more. May the Nightwatcher grant each of you a boon that outweighs your curse! Good night! -
I've always just assumed, knowing that Brandon is a planner, that if things did go over a bit there might be a side book or a WoT-like Encyclopedia sort of deal. Something that wouldn't ship with the 10 book set, but was just to tie up smaller loose ends. 10 does seem a little significant to this project, hahaha.

Bloodfalcon replied to eveorjoy's topic in Stormlight Archive
I'm going to reread the first 6 or so chapters the evening before the book comes out. Then, at midnight, I'm going to start reading at 7. As long as we've got confirmation that those are the final drafts - which they are- I don't see a need to reread them on that day when I can reread them several times right now. In this month I may end up committing them to memory.... -
I find it really fun, but I know realistically it is going to be what gets me through hours and hours of waiting for X with only my phone or ipod. I just don't want to be too bad at it when the time comes

Not really on topic, but I thought I would recommend utilizing the 17th Shard blog options. You can set them to private or whatever, and today I started creating blog entries with WoK or WoB quotes that I feel I'll need again. I'm trying to have them separated by topic and that sort of thing so it is easier for me to find and on any device I sign in from! It may not be the best method in history, but I think it will save a couple posts of me asking broadly for people to find things for me.

Wow, that was like a challenge post. As discretely as possible - explain the Parshendii hahaha

Been playing for months and would love to duel some 17th shard friends! I'm not great at it still, but I even recognize the fun in losing on Hearthstone Battletag: Mak#1635 Also have WoW and Diablo if anyone felt like playing anything else!

Right but in context we know that Dalinar is literally the only person in all of the warcamps that would consider ending those disputes as well as leave the Shattered Plains. If it were the standard power grab, that would be one thing, but he is seizing power with the knowledge that he is the only one that will bring change. It's maybe the least personal reason ever - trying to unify Alethkar instead of leaving them in an endless string of competition with one another that ultimately weakens them and the chances for the world to survive the Everstorm. Any other Alethi highprince seizing control in this way would be that personal reason. Dalinar's reason is a global concern - one that he is convinced is being given to him by the Almighty. Sadeas can't claim that, haha.

Should I buy the hard cover or ebook of WoR?
Bloodfalcon replied to eveorjoy's topic in Stormlight Archive
I had the ebook and the hard copy preordered, but then I learned that the audiobook will be out on day one, so I dropped the hardcover and ordered the audiobook. The way I see it, that search function is invaluable, and the audiobook will let me listen when I would otherwise be wasting time (All activities that are not reading Stormlight Archive are considered wasted/sunk costs until the book is finished). Then the audiobook will also be my best option for the turn-around reread when I am done. I'll get a hardcopy, but it might be one that I order off Brandon's website or something like that so I can get him to sign it. That will be a little while out. -
Maturity is probably one piece of it. It seems like once the spren's mind is all there, the Ideals are what become important in the power of the Surges. Pattern/Puppy can hardly navigate the floor without bumping into posts right now, so I doubt he is at full strength, hahaha.

Yeah, I'm also bias toward Dalinar. I think he is one of the most respectable characters in any book I've read recently. It is easy here to call him out and slam him for being a hypocrite, which he kind of is doing, but every time I try to back up and think "What's his purpose? Is it worth it?" The answer is usually that Dalinar is doing what he thinks is right in the long run. Moogle likes to quote the journey before destination line, and I think he is right to do so here, but maybe this is how Dalinar learns it. He's been trying to live it, but maybe it will take Adolin curbstomping somebody before he realizes what he is doing. All in all, Dalinar appears to be doing what he thinks is best for his kingdom, so right now it all evens out in my eyes. If I have the character's POV and I can see that he's just doing what he thinks he should, I can usually cut some slack for anyone.
