  1. I'm pretty sure I've heard Adolin referred to as a blonde-speckled Colonel Roy Mustang a few times before. Now, let's just hope the Stormlight Archive ending doesn't crap out like FMA's did...
  2. Gamut was still shocked. Not only was he too late to the lynching, but the Villagers had lost their momentum and had ended up killing one of their own. He mourned for Xaneth, but he wouldn't let his guilt cripple him. The villager of Blackwater still needed a hero. Maybe Gamut wasn't the Hero the town had deserved, but he would still do his best he could. I have failed you... Gamut looked again at the words he was writing in his journal, and knew the sentence to be true. He had initially panicked when he had returned from rushing out to the lynching earlier to find some of the pages from his journal missing, but he knew it was probably for the best at this point. He had been working so hard, and had yet to come up with anything solid. With a resigned sigh, Gamut continued writing. If you are reading this, then I have failed you. I am dead. I plan these messages, knowing calamity might strike me at any moment, I had hoped I would find some secrets that may be of use, should I fall to the Spiked's scheming, and yet, I have nothing. I do not know how to stop them. Gamut put his quill down and looked again at what he had written. As he was writing it, the prospect of his death didn't seem as tragic to him as he assumed it would be. Maybe it would be better, that way? Not having to listen to the Spiked's whispers, their constant lies, trying to influence and corrupt them. Yes, death would be much easier. No! The village needed him. He was a symbol of hope. A beacon of defiance, spitting in the eye of trepidation and the forces of Ruin. "I will survive." Gamut promised, standing up and leaving the farewell letter half-finished. He turned and strolled to the open window on the other side of the room, tendrils of mist creeping inside and pooling on the floor, and downed a vial or Iron. There was work to do tonight. And Gamut wasn't giving up without a fight.
  3. Yeah, picking a fight with Hoid kind of seems like it'd be the same as prodding a Hornets Next. Except, these are large, scary hornets that have access to multiple systems of Investiture from various Shardworlds.
  4. But Batman doesn't murder people.. So Adolin actually killing Sadeas makes him cooler than Batman.
  5. Gamut had stayed up all night and day, working tirelessly on his notes and list of suspects. He had gathered everybody's roles and information, and had been racking his brain and come to some sort of conclusion. If only I was a Pewterarm, then I could push myself to stay awake... was the last thought Gamut had before he slumped over unconscious at his desk, sleep had finally caught up with him. It wasn't until hours later, when the sun had already set and the mists had come out in full force, that Gamut woke with a start. "Oh no! I hope I'm not too late for the lynching!" was all he had time to exclaim before he rushed out of his room and into the night. He left so quickly he didn't even notice the torn pages that were missing from his journal...
  6. I'm surprised nobody has mentioned this one yet... Emphasis mine. Whether or not you think Adolin's actions were right, I'm sure we can all agree this passage is chalk-full of awesomesauce.
  7. "I am a Stick!" "Oh, I know. Please don't let me interrupt you with that." "Oh, storms! It's Hoid!" *Turns itself into fire.*
  8. No problem, Peng. Hope you feel better, man. But has the Deadline already happened? So all votes and actions are locked in?
  9. Hoid, for sure. But see, Nazh is going to be getting extra points for his pretty maps. Meanwhile Khriss is just laughing to herself, watching the results of the race unfold on her Cosmere-Twitter feed. (I couldn't think of a cool fusion word for Cosmere/Twitter that didn't sound like an insult. Twitmere? I think not.)
  10. I can't recall the exact page or quote, but when Kaladin and Shallan were down in the chasm, I believe Shallan shortened her Shardblade to make it easier to cut the handholds when they were climbing above the stormlevel. Because that's when I basically knew Shallan's Shardblade was quite different from other ones we had seen.
  11. I really don't know who to firmly suspect right now. If some people are just waiting on me to cast a vote to just bandwagon that person, you might as well just start voicing your own suspicions and votes. We need more discussion going on in the thread. I'm not sure how much longer the day is with the extension, but right now Mabi would die with just those two votes and almost no conversation about it. And that probably isn't a good thing. How much do we have with the extension, if I may ask?
  12. Slight derailment: Here are George R.R. Martin's words regarding the 'sexual grossness' people seem to have a problem with in his series: But that's beside the point of the thread. Drehy is a confirmed WoB homosexual, and like people are saying above, Ranette is a confirmed lesbian. And what does it matter? Their sexual orientation has had nothing to do with their actions, so far that we could tell. And with Gavilar being gay, himself? I'm not saying that it'd be wrong for him to have been one, I'm just not seeing any evidence for that. At all. It might be fun to theorize, but I just don't see it.
  13. This is my new: "Crazy theory I want to be true, but am too afraid to admit in my heart it'd be too good to hope for."
  14. Oh yeah. So those words were probably just Adolin's thoughts. But that still doesn't account for whatever mysteriously told him to duck at the right exact moment.
  15. Do you think Brandon will ever be cool enough to release a Stormlight Archive book on a release date that's a palindrome? I mean, how much more holy could the book get than that? Possible dates: (since Peters said we probably shouldn't hope for anything sooner than a 2016 release) 6/11/16, 6/13/16, 6/15/16, 6/17/16, 6/19/16 So, that's not bad. If Brandon finished Book 3 early in 2016, I'd be willing to wait for a such a cool release date. (Watch, I'll say that now. But when it's April, and I have to wait those extra few months.....I'll regret these words)
  16. Gamut sat alone in Lurcher's Inn, sunlight peeking through the shuttered windows in thin slits, working furiously on his notes. He had stayed up the entire night, collecting whispers, hearing the songs of the wicked and righteous being sung to him. "..sometimes I worry that I'm not the hero everybody thinks I am..." Gamut was barely aware of what he was writing until he looked down and frowned at the sentence on the page. His lists of suspects and Diagrams had been running his mind in circles, and the notebook he was using had started to have increasingly long rants and paragraphs containing personal musings, or reasonings for his actions. I have to stay focused! He yelled at himself as he bent down and began to scribble more things down. He was so tired that he had balanced his chair up by slightly pulling himself backwards towards a latch behind him. He put it there for this purpose, for if he would fall asleep while sitting like that, the jolt of movement would snap him awake. And he felt the day would be laboringly long like it was yesterday, with the fat red sun nestled in the sky for much longer than it should have been, and the mists holding back on the horizon, waiting to rush in like a flood from a broken dam. Hopefully that will be enough time.... Gamut was so involved with his paperwork that he was oblivious to the crowd that had gathered outside and already started casting votes.
  17. Heh. Sorry I haven't really posted much info, suspicions, or lists of who to Lynch yet today. still sorting through the PM's. Curious, how much longer do we have in the Cycle? I might need to ask for a time extension. Edit: Everybody feel free to discuss who your suspects still are. It'd actually probably be better if there's discussion before I cast a vote, so there isn't just s bandwagon against who I say right away. The more people talk, the better.
  18. So, it'd go like this. Kaladin just comes smashing down from the sky, locked in his landing pose, with stormlight radiating out from around him and the ground cracked. Standing opposite from Kaladin in Szeth! In his standard white uniform, brandishing his slick chull Honorblade. Maybe standing around a pile of corpses he just merc'd.... Yeah. Something like that would be cool. I could almost picture it. XD
  19. Well, you see what happened was, with Gaz going back to the camps, Asmodean was starting to get lonely again....
  20. Oh, and if anybody looks at my sig... that quote is there for a reason.
  21. No, not just two pages before that Pattern is talking with Shallan at the Oathgate, and since this is all happening at the same time, it's pretty unlikely it was pattern. There is a big difference between Adolin's inner-thoughts, and that mysterious command to duck. The only similar phenomena we see is when Syl is talking to Kaladin directly via the mind. But then later on the page the in italics and not attributed to a voice or Adolin's inner thoughts are "Lead them, Adolin. Unite them." Which is pretty similar to what Honor has been telling Dalinar... so, I really have no idea. O.o
  22. Also, didn't something tell him to "Duck!" during the final battle at one point, mysteriously? If that's not a Spren looking out for him, then I'm not sure what it could be. (Only other option is Stormfather, really)
  23. Gamut was sitting nearby Forage's shop, watching the villagers come through and mourn for the jovial businessman. Yet another person I couldn't protect, Gamut thought solemnly. Gamut had been constantly burning Iron for the last couple days, always wary of an attack. It was because of this he noticed the extra piece of metal Vizinni had carried with him out of Forage's shop. Surely that's not... is that.... no way! Gamut found himself whispering, "Now where in Damnation did Forage find an a'dam?!"
  24. No, there's Windspren. You airsick lowlanders just can't see them! You are not of the alaii'iku!
  25. "Ah. forgot myself for a moment," Wit said. "Sorry. Let me make it more appropriate for you. A piece of wet slime and a disgusting crap thing with seventeen legs slunk across the rocks together on an insufferably rainy day. Is that better?" Gotta love Wit messing with Kaladin. It'll never get old. Or when Wit says to Amaram, "You're what Sadeas aspires to be!" or something like that. Basically, anything Hoid says. But, let's not forget the forever-classic, "I am offend!"
