  1. Is it odd that I still /feel/ like an active member of the community even though I almost never post anymore?

  2. I'm now working my way through Ian C. Esslemont's Stonewielder, his third Malazan contribution. I really disliked his first but was impressed by his second, and so far I am enjoying this one!
  3. Whoops, should've warned about spoilers. But that's what you get for reading about a book that will consider the series as a whole! And I can't really visualize how to mesh the Double Eye with the Wheel, but I bet it will be awesome!
  4. So considering that the Wheel of Time Companion will have information on the strength level of channelers (source), there will be some help figuring this out. I wonder if the book will use the 21 level system?
  5. I certainly hope we get something better than what that blurb promises.
  6. So Tor posted some new info on the Wheel of Time Companion. In addition to what we learned in August, we now have this: Considering that Shadows of Self is set for release in October and this in November, I can well say that this fall is shaping out to be pretty awesome!
  7. Yeah, that makes the story sound really generic... As we've discussed before a bit, Kingkiller isn't the most original premise ever, at least Kvothe's origin story isn't, but what makes it so stunning is the way the story is told, and this makes me even more concerned that a TV version won't do the series justice. Is this an actual blurb for the upcoming series?
  8. I got my Firefight pre-order a day early!!!!

Every time someone shares a delighted story about getting their copy of Firefight a day early, a deep, geeky part of my soul dies. :|

      (Congratulations! Hope you enjoy it.)

Well I hope you enjoy Firefight as well, whenever you receive it! :)

Thanks. I bought the e-book as my first order of business this morning. You probably won't see much of me today. :P

  9. Well, I'm not in Britain, but I got my Amazon pre-order in the mail today, a day early!
  10. Finished Toll the Hounds the other day (finally). Not my favorite Malazan book, definitely different, but I still really enjoyed it, particularly the ending. I am going to read Mitosis now to get myself into a Reckoners mood before Firefight. Certainly a different type of story and writing style after reading a Malazan book...
  11. I was suggesting (jokingly) that Stormlight 4 was the secret and that Stones was finished already.
  12. At this point, I am pretty sure he just accidentally wrote the fourth Stormlight book, and Stones Unhallowed is already done.
  13. I remember there being some discussion of the similarities a while ago. They definitely have somewhat similar premises and plots. I think to an extent it is probably just a result of Brandon's logic. I.e. He would naturally create somewhat similar plots for similar premises because they just make sense to him/appeal to him in some way. Note: Even though Mistborn has been out forever, you may want to spoiler tag this, particularly the part about the Firefight chapters, since this is the General Board, and the Firefight chapters are definitely spoilers.
  14. I doubt that the secret is anything other than a normal book, given that he said Calamity is now his 38th book, and everything listed there is a book given a number.
  15. I hate that feeling... This is the first time (at least, since I've been closely following Brandon) that he has even come close to me. I envy the Utah group who can go to all the midnight releases.
  16. While it is true that Shards morph one's personality, we know from the pairing of Rayse/Odium that the closer the Intent to the holder's general personality/mindset, the less the Shard has to morph the mind of the holder. Thus Hoid would likely be most attracted to Endowment because that intent is not significantly different from his own beliefs/outlook.
  17. So of course Brandon's coming to MA the one day of the week I have a major obligation. I guess I will have to "get sick" or something.
  18. Realistically, though, he has worked on at least 10. Words of Radiance (#30) through Calamity (#38), and the other Unfinished Secret he mentioned.
  19. Ok good, I'm not crazy. Regardless, this new hint seems to indicate he would still not be interested in the Shards in general. Given that Hoid prefers to be more of an observer/to keep his meddling to the background (at least for the time being), I highly doubt he would take up any Shard even given the opportunity, unless there is one that very closely fits his personality.
  20. I thought that WoB was in reference to Harmony or Ruin specifically, not the Shards in general? Or maybe I made that up...
  21. Judging from the , that is how he writes all of his books.
  22. I'm starting to suspect Brandon only posted that picture to torture us. All he needed to say was that the outline for Calamity was finished and tell us it is his 38th book. The picture amounts to mere cruel and unusual punishment.
  23. What has clearly occurred is that one of the SanderBots™ has achieved sentience and started to conceive and write its own stories.
  24. What a tease that man is. I am going to go out on a limb and say that it is either a. what it sounds like: something secret he has never mentioned before or b. (since it is somewhat unlikely he has something secret that he didn't mention in the new State of the Sanderson) one of the Elantris sequels.
  25. It's always nice to get back into that pre-Sanderson-release mood!
