  1. "The East" to Szeth could be anything east of Shinovar, though.
  2. That Tyn had been behind the attack on the boat.
  3. Yes. And that puts the start of the Weeping on Jesel. Better than my solution.
  4. Another possible miscounting: on page 955, paragraph 4, it says "Dalinar had pushed the three armies into another day of marching." Shouldn't that be four armies? Edit: One more, a timeline inconsistency. The feast in Chapter 67 is 12 days before the end of the countdown. Bethab and Thanadal went on a successful plateau run that day. The scouting expedition takes place the next day (11 days before the countdown ends), assuming Bethab and Thanadal didn't capture gemhearts two days in a row. (I'd expect this to be impossible with the rotation, though I wasn't paying too much attention to how it worked.) That day, Kaladin and Shallan fall into the chasms. The final highstorm is the day after that. The expedition left the next day, so nine days before the end of the countdown. Page 959, paragraph 5, says it is the eighth day of the expedition. Page 963, paragraph 13, occurring the same day, says the countdown ends the next day. Thus, I think it should be the ninth day of the expedition; it's eight days since the expedition set out, but the day they set out should be counted as well.
  5. One thing I did notice about the Lift interlude is that it says she calls Tigzikk "Tig", but she uses his full name when talking to Wyndle (Page 692, paragraph 13). Also, I'm not sure on this but I *think* there should be another comma after "large" in the fifth paragraph in the corrected Chasm Life image.
  6. Page 730, paragraph 10: Is "now weak as wet" correct? I thought perhaps it should be "now weak and wet", but I suppose the drops were already wet...
  7. US hardcover. The line is "Blasted spren, Kaladin thought, walking up bedside Shallan and Adolin." It's in Chapter 55. Should also be paragraph 15. I didn't count the first paragraph, that was continued from the previous page, before.
  8. Okay, this one is surely an actual typo. Page 647, paragraph 14. "Bedside" should be "beside".
  9. Chapter 14; page 221, paragraph 12: "causal betrothal" should probably be "casual betrothal"
  10. Red's body ended up as just bones. Also, Silence thinks this about Chesterton's body: Theopolis was apparently identifiable, but perhaps Silence just claimed to have identified him from his clothing.
  11. Happy birthday, Brandon!
  12. Born in Canada but lived most of my life in the U.S., specifically North Carolina.
  13. Lifespren?
  14. You know you can look up people's previous names in their profile? Sell; I recall Brandon mentioning not wanting to turn interlude characters into main characters as it would cause the series to sprawl. A darkeyes will acquire a Shardblade at some point in the Stormlight Archive.
  15. He's obviously a gold misting though. I mean, what else are we to make of this? (TWOK, Chapter 40)
  16. Possibly it's derived from the word "sphere", by analogy with atmosphere, biosphere, etc.? The word never struck me as odd, I think for this reason, although considering it now I realize that the cosmere might not actually be spherical.
  17. Well, I spent hours on this, and I see Fistsofrage has clarified some things now. But I still disagree with a lot of stuff in this post. First of all, I think that restricting debate to literal meanings is ridiculous, especially since E. Hyde clearly distinguished between implications and literal statements in her post. Hardly anything we say has only literal meaning; there are implications everywhere, and they aren't entirely made up by the reader. Second, characters shouldn't be assumed to be straight automatically, because not all people are straight. To assume so erases the existence of homo-, bi-, asexual etc. people. Certainly if a character whose sexuality has so far not been revealed turns out to be gay it should not come as a huge surprise. And I can imagine how it might not make sense to reveal this early if, say, the person isn't attracted to the people they are around early in the story; rather, the point where it has the most relevancy might in fact be when they meet someone they are attracted to. Note that none of the above is directly about Kaladin since I believe he is straight based on e.g. his attraction to Laral. Also, are you saying the word "homophobia" is offensive to mentally ill people or to homophobes? If the former, then I suppose I can understand, though I don't really agree -- the word does not, to me, have a strong connection to mental illness. If the latter, then I don't much care: homophobia is bad, and I think this the reason the word has negative connotations. Removing it then seems like an attempt to obscure that fact.
  18. They also asked after Shallan specifically, so if they are looking for the Shardblade then they probably have an idea that she has it. Although that raises the question of why they don't just get Kabsal to kill her -- he could have done so easily.
  19. GRRM hates fanfiction, so maybe he's trying to make it unnecessary by including sex scenes? I'm a fan of both authors personally, if anyone's keeping count. I can see how people here could either like or dislike ASOIAF. And Arya is my favorite character ever and totally deserves her own book.
  20. While this forum does seem to primarily focus on theories, I don't understand it to be a requirement. Thus, I think we should accept other ways of engaging with the books, such as shipping even when one doesn't expect the ship to become canon, rather than insisting on ships being treated as theories. But insofar as we are talking about homosexuality, ships as theories, and ideas from outside 17th Shard, I'd be interested to know what people's thoughts are on the idea presented in this old post on Westeros. Relevant part: I've always kind of liked this idea. Although I realize that, representation-wise, a dead king and a major antagonist might not be the best representatives...
  21. I don't know that we should assume there is an actual "sword of retribution". I read that as being more metaphorical: retribution represented artistically by a sword.
  22. I did a reread of Shallan's chapters since I got excited about her story going into WoR; it's indeed perfectly coherent. I believe the spanreed conversation between Dalinar and Jasnah occurs in Chapter 28 if you're wondering.
  23. The clue is that the recipient is referred to as "you old reptile". This post is the confirmation. Back on topic, I'm going to say sell; I don't entirely see the point of fighting Amaram but not killing him. Shallan will obey the letter but not the spirit of her promise not to lie to Jasnah.
  24. It actually took me nearly three years to go from reading The Way of Kings to reading all the cosmere books and joining here. The first time I looked for fansites I found TWG but got scared off by cosmere discussion (since I hadn't even read anything but WOK) and info about the orders of Radiants which confused me because I was pretty sure it wasn't in the books. (It's surprising how much *was* in the books that I missed or forgot, but this was from an interview.) It was Tor.com's reread that eventually got me excited about Words of Radiance and convinced me I had to read the other books to find out what was going on with the cosmere.
