My client is the Columbus Summoners University, a group dedicated to the online game League of Legends. The group's clients include students who currently play League of Legends, students who want to play League, and non-students who want to play or want to watch people play League. The group's goals include building a player base for League of Legends at CSU and possibly entering into the Collegiate League of Legends. The Collegiate League of Legends is a group of colleges that play League competitively, and students can even earn scholarships from playing League of Legends. The main goal of the group is to help students become better players of League, and create a CSU League of Legends team.
Columbus Summoners University currently uses social media to advertise our events and to help players get in touch with each other through our Facebook group. Our goals for social media include being able to more accurately assess our player base to figure out when events should be held, and what type of events we should hold.
Challenges we anticipate are: being able to gain the attention of the majority of League of Legends players at CSU, and to be able to use social media to keep them interested enough to continue to attend our meetings. Unfortunately, our first event did not go so well due to techinal issues, so one immediate challenge is to professionally apologize and convince people to come to our rescheduled first event.
Major things we need to know when planning our social media presence are: what others are saying about us, good or bad, what are our competitors doing, and where are most of our audience at?
For us right now, people are mostly talking about our recent event. Our competitors are planning other events, so we need to watch what they are planning, so that we can schedule our events on other days in order to not conflict on campus resources. Most, if not all, of our audience are on Facebook, so that will most likely be our main source of advertising.
A college assignment.
