A neurodivergence thread would be cool. I think there would be a lot of overlap between that one and this one, but maybe it would be neat to have this thread for mental struggles specifically, and another one for the fun/crazy parts of neurodivergence. It's common for us neurospicy folk to have struggles, but the divergence itself isn't a bad thing, it's just part of us - and some parts of that are fun! But it could feel awkward to be posting about your awesome hyperfocus session where you got so much done, while someone else is posting about how their brain decided everything is attacking them today and they had to handle a panic attack. But then, as previously mentioned, there's a lot of overlap - poll the other people! Whaddya'll think? (Oh to be clear though - everyone is welcome here! With or without labels. No one needs a label to not be ok. Your struggles are real, whether or not they're properly categorized or validated by others.) More hugs! All the hugs.

This whole chain was adorable to read. Also, anyone else thinking of Edward Elric (FMA) getting called smol? Just me? Hi! Welcome! I'm not an official anything here, but yeah, join on in.

Ooooh! My preferred combat type! Nice! I haven't listened to NF before, but I'll go check them out! Return question: Do you listen to Linkin Park? (They're a bit of a mixed bag, but they've got some really good stuff. What I've Done, Leave Out All The Rest, Breaking The Habit, Numb, Easier To Run, Papercut, Faint, Figure 09 - there's a good starting point) Video games...noooooooooo not nearly as much as I want to! I want to play moreeee! But alas, circumstances do not align thusly. I used to play Minecraft often, but just haven't had the time (or, honestly, the creative energy to) for a while. In the little bits of time I play anything these days, I've been playing Tears of the Kingdom, poking my way through that. (I complain, but then when I get free time, I usually spend it reading. So that's kind of on me haha.) ...I will meddle a bit and nudge you towards KnightSkye, who plays minecraft at least semi-regularly, I think. Certainly more often than I do, but that's not saying much The last time I opened minecraft was for a few weeks back in summer.

So, I had deliberately not listened to Thank You For Hating Me, because from the title it looked like it might be a bitter "take out my pain on someone else" song. (And I try to be careful with what I choose to dwell on in my head, because if I'm not deliberate with choosing what I think about, my thoughts go dark, and I could easily let myself turn my hurt towards other people, and I don't want to do that.) Which was a silly thing to think, because this is Citizen Soldier we're talking about, and of course they would handle it well. I went and listened, and omg it's amazing! Adding it to my CS playlist. And oooooh, controversial opinion! Ok so I don't want to say too much, because I've been trying to get KnightSkye to read those and I don't want to spoil anything. But man. Akito. Ok, well, Akito is a well-written character. A crucial piece to the story. And I like that the direction of the story is redemption and forgiveness. I like the theme that everyone's cruelty comes from their own pain. I'm not sure I could say I like him. But, well. It was well done. And Hatori! Yes. Hatori is my second favorite character, after Kyo. In Kureno I see a little too much of my own mistakes to like him per se. That "I want to help, so I'll keep doing the thing that makes you feel better, only to realize that was enabling you to get worse and refuse to grow - that my help actually made things worse"...yeahhh, that one hurts. That's one of my background anxieties; that I'm somehow corrupted, or twisted, or there's just something wrong with me, and that any attempts I make to help someone will somehow make things worse instead. Been working on that one in counseling. It's done a lot of good. ...This is the point where I feel like I should apologize for being personal, but I think that's the point of this group?? So uh, yep.

"Tyfht" - meaning "Thank you for hating me"? tyfhm? Or is it a different song I'm missing? Depresso Espresso, Espresso Depresso - I love it either way. KYOOOOO YES YES I LOVE KYO! I've just reread the series again, and I LOVE him. See this is mostly why I brought up the recommendations question - I love squeeing over shared enjoyments In rereading, I also realized how much I've tried to emulate Tohru in some ways; I want to be someone who feels safe to others. Someone that other people take comfort in. Someone who can look at another person and accept their hurt and love them. Validate them.

Hammer also has the added benefit of being not sharp, and thus safe to keep around even when I need to keep myself away from sharp cutting implements for a little while. Blunt force trauma for the win!

Credit where credit is due! Regardless of source, I love it haha Ok, question for peoples: What are your favorite books/stories that handle/interact with mental health? (I mean, obviously Sanderson. That's what we're all here for haha.) I already gave Eliza and her Monsters a recommendation. I will also add the manga Fruits Basket, if manga (and trauma) is your kind of thing. I cry every time. It looks on the outside like it should be so cutesy and fluffy. And then it's...it's...full of trauma and abuse and healing and hope. My to-be-read pile isn't touching the ceiling yet - send me ideas!

The honorspren sitting on my shoulder would like me to inform you that clearly, my favorite type of spren is honorspren. However, I confess a love of Cryptics and their fascination with things. I do like honorspren when they're not being all uptight and overly rigid. The honorspren sitting on my shoulder is proud to inform you that I am a Windrunner. I am actually a bit put out by that, as Windrunner is the most common result for people to get, and I a little bit wanted to be one of the less-well-known orders haha. But I have to admit, the Windrunner oaths definitely match me best. Oooooooh. Hmmm. So many good choices... For feruchemy, tin. The ability to dampen, mute, or blur the world around me - to whenever I wanted be able to reduce the overstimulation - would be amazing. (Also, they're called Windwhisperers, which come on, that's awesome). For allomancy...I've gotta go with steel. It lets you fly. That's too strong of a draw. gee, hello stranger!

Oooh. Face to Face is awesome. (Also, it is totally Dalinar's song for when he confronts Odium - "You cannot have my pain". "I'd rather die on my feet than live on my knees.") Strong for Somebody Else (which incidentally is Kaladin's song, I will die on this hill). I sing I.C.U. a lot. Reason to Live, Burden, Alone with Myself. They just released Hospital Bed and I felt super awesome listening to it and being able to say "not anymore!" to most of it. Also, it's not a perfect match, but I can't help but think of Kelsier every time I listen to Victim or Survivor. Why yes, hello, complete stranger who is totally not the person who linked me to this thread! "Espresso depresso" I can't believe I've never heard that before. I'm literally holding a cup of coffee right now. Dying laughing, thank you.

Hellooooo. I'm new. And requesting permission to join. Let's see, anxiety, depression (currently mostly in remission, but it likes to hang out in the background and threaten to reappear), and just diagnosed as autistic but not adhd, which was honestly a bit of a surprise to me, but whatever. Terrified of disappointing people, of failing to live up to expectations, of doing something wrong. Hate change and surprises, but need whimsy to keep life interesting otherwise I go off the walls with boredom. Incidentally, joining this group is a change! Also more potential to disappoint people! I’m thrilled! Thrilled, I tell you! (I also overuse sarcasm. In case you hadn’t noticed.) I am here because my counselor told me to join a neurodivergent group, talk with other people with similar mindsets and conditions and whatnot. I was being stubborn and not gonna do it, because “I’m really fine, my problems aren’t that bad, I’m handling just fine, I don’t need to do that, besides that sounds like way more scheduling commitment and social energy and hassle than it’s worth really, psh I’m fiiiiine” But then KnightSkye told me this just started up. And then I read the posts. And y’all look fun to hang out with. And maybeeeeee it’s actually a good idea to listen to my counselor. (Pro tip: Yes. It’s a good idea to listen to your counselor.) So here I am, doing the thing. Apologies if I'm awkward at this, I'm awkward at most things. I also started a new med today. Wooooooo gonna be watching for side effects for the next, oh, six months of my life. No anxiety over that, of course not, not at all. So let's just add another change right on top of that one. It’s fine! So with that thrilling entrance, hello everyone! (I am less sarcastic than this when I relax, I promise. I'm just nervous. And trying to hide it. But then outright admitting it. ...I am a living contraction haha) OH WAIT Recommendation! I see citizen soldier being talked about, that’s good. BUT My username! Everyone who doesn’t recognize it should go read the book Eliza and her Monsters by Francesca Zappia. It’s about mental health, purpose, anxiety, creating art, and loving your fandom. Ok I think I’m talking too much. That’s all for now.

Hello all! I'm MirkerLurker, I'm new on here. Of Sanderson's works, I've read: Cosmere: Everything except White Sand (and the Primes) Non-Cosmere: Cytoverse, Alcatraz, Reckoners (except Lux), Rithmatist, and part of Perfect State. I'll probably be a sporadic poster, but I've been reading some of the threads on here and wanting to chime in, so here I am. Uh...not sure what else to list, but feel free to ask questions! A note about my username: It's not actually mine! It belongs to Eliza Mirk, a fictional character in the book Eliza and her Monsters by Francesca Zappia. If you haven't read it, and are up for a short YA story about mental health, finding purpose, creating art, and loving your fandom, you need to go read it. ...yes NEED. Go on. Go do it. Right now. ...I don't see you moving. Go on! Be off with you! Go, and read good books!
