  1. Given that Investiture in general seems to involve a certain particle, this suggests that all manifestations of Investiture can be unified into a single system describing the behavior of that particle. Investiture's ability to be shaped by intent (especially the Intent of god-level beings like the Shards) is what allows for the variety of powers we see in the Cosmere. So even though the illusion magic on Yolen and that on Roshar are similar, there are differences (e.g. how they are accessed) due to different Intents.
  2. How about this: Yo mama's so dumb, she doesn't have a Cognitive aspect! Eh? Eh? No? Ah well, I tried.
  3. Yo mama's so fat, she's the eleventh major Shardworld.
  4. One possible remotely Brandon-related discussion topic is "Sanderson Characters in Well-Known Comedy Sketches". In such a discussion I would contribute this shortened version of Monty Python's Argument Clinic sketch, starring Hoid: Man Who Likes An Argument: Ah, I'd like to have an argument, please. Receptionist: Certainly sir. Have you been here before? M: No, I haven't. This is my first time. R: I see. Well, do you want to have just one argument, or were you thinking of taking a course? M: Well, what is the cost? R: Well, it's one pound for a five minute argument, but only eight pounds for a course of ten. M: Well, I think it would be best if I perhaps started off with just the one and then see how it goes. R: Fine. Well, I'll see who's free at the moment. (Pause) R: Mr. DeBakey's free, but he's a little bit conciliatory. Ah, yes, try Mr. Barnard; room 12. M: Thank you. (Walks down the hall. Opens the wrong door.) Hoid: WHAT DO YOU WANT? Man Who Likes An Argument: Well, I was told outside that... H: Don't give me that, you snotty-faced heap of parrot droppings! M: What? H: Shut your festering gob, you idiot! Your type really makes me puke, you vacuous, coffee-nosed, malodorous, pervert!!! M: Look, I CAME HERE FOR AN ARGUMENT, I'm not going to just stand...! H: OH! Oh I'm sorry, but this is Wit. M: Oh, I see. Well, that explains it. H: Ah yes, you want room 12A for Argument. Just along the corridor. M: Oh. Thank you very much. Sorry. H: Not at all. M: Thank You. H: (Under his breath) Stupid git!
  5. I'll just leave this here.
  6. Holy smokes he actually answered my question!!! And in the affirmative!!! I'm almost late for work, but this calls for a celebration. *gives away upvotes*
  7. Yeah, I re-read your earlier post and it did say there that your question was about Compounders. Sorry, I should have read it more carefully the first time.
  8. So Brandon didn't imply that the burning of piercings is a general effect regardless of the target's Allomantic ability? Did you only ask about Compounders specifically? We'll need to ask Brandon to clarify this in the future. The worst case scenario is that Chromium is completely useless against Ferrings and that non-Compounding Twinborn opponents will still get to keep their metalmind piercings.
  9. New WoB says that Chromium can destroy pierced metalminds and possibly even Hemalurgic spikes if a person burning Chromium hangs onto the target for several seconds (this is assuming he has enough Chromium to burn for that long). Moogle suggests that giving Chromium an Allomantic burst should significantly speed up this process. What this means is that a Duralumin-Chromium "Mistcoin" with enough Chromium might be able to destroy another person's internal Invested metals all at once! Edit: Oh, so it might not be as awesome as I thought...
  10. You can destroy Hemalurgic spikes using (prolonged) Chromium Allomancy?! That's awesome! (Well, I guess it's not awesome for Hemalurgists...)Perhaps the reason Aluminum can't destroy spikes is because it disappears instantly upon burning, taking away only the non-Invested metals along the way. I guess this fits the self-preservation theme of Allomantic powers since burning off your own spikes would physically harm you. Burning off other people's Hemalurgy is another matter, so maybe that's why Brandon gave Chromium this particular advantage. This mismatch between the Enhancement Pulling powers makes me wonder if there's something special about Nicrosil that can't be predicted from what we know of Duralumin.
  11. IANAM (I Am Not A Moderator) but using the Report button on the offending spam post should be enough to alert the Steel Inquisitorsadmin that a purge is needed. No need to create a topic about it. Unless you want a discussion about spambots. In which case, carry on.
  12. My speculation is that Luthadel was named after a previous Hero of Ages, perhaps the one who took up the power in the Well of Ascension before Rashek. The name sort of sounds German to me (mainly because it starts with "Luth-", which reminds me of the German "Luthor" and "Luther"). If that was Brandon's intent then it could imply that whoever the city of Luthadel was named after belonged to a civilization that had German-sounding names, which may also be where the ancestors of House Venture (Elend and Straff were meant to be German-sounding) came from. Interestingly, House Venture's homeland is in the Northern Dominance, near what is thought of as the Terris Mountains. We know that Rashek changed the land during his Ascension (e.g. the original Terris Mountains were flattened out, etc.), but if the "German" civilization did originally live somewhere north then it might actually be the Nelazan civilization, which existed in the far north and whose people worshiped the god Trell before the Final Empire.
  13. I'd buy a shot glass with Gold's Allomantic symbol then use it to drink Goldschläger (which contains actual gold flakes and is quite strong) until such a point that I start ranting about my past self's mistakes and how my present self ain't no shining model of perfection either, the stupid git. Then I'd pass out due obviously to the emotional stress and other unpleasant side effects caused by Gold Allomancy.
  14. Pffft. Obviously not. Darth Vader is Prof. Calamity is obviously Darth Sidious. He's experimenting with a more powerful kind of midichlorian manipulation and is using fearful humans as guinea pigs.Remember what Yoda always said: "Fear leads to anger. Anger leads to hate. Hate leads to Rending." Oh, and welcome to the 17th Shard!
  15. Ah, in that case, Brightness Tetriona, I hope to see you in the Stormlight board. I am a darkeyed skaa, but I also enjoy speculating about Roshar. Have an awesome time!
  16. Welcome, Tetriona! Which series is your favorite so far? Also, since you're a Lighteyes (), may I ask what your eye color is?
  17. And Megan will turn out to be David's hot twin sister.David: NOOO!!! (Star Wars reference, obviously.)
  18. According to the Elantris annotations, Eventeo's spy is Torena. Apparently Brandon decided not to reveal the spy in the book because it interfered with the other reveals. I guess since this was never explicitly stated nor foretold in the book, Brandon is free to change who the spy really was. So it might be possible he'll discard his original plan and make Hoid Eventeo's spy in the Elantris sequel. I don't think this is likely, though. Edit: Ninja'd by 18th Shard!
  19. That is correct. My bad. I think we need an umbrella term for everyone who can travel in and out of the Physical Realm, whether they do it to hop between Shardworlds or not. How about Realmhoppers or Travellers? Or we could use the Rosharian term "Elsecallers", since Hoid seemed comfortable using the term "Elsecall" in WoR.
  20. A person's perception depends on what sensory data reaches his mind. Even then, the mind does not make every bit of information it receives perceivable; it sometimes hides sensory data, or changes it to fit an abstract pattern. Think of the brain in a jar concept, or even the concept of illusion. Perception is all in the mind. So even if a person is already part of Shadesmar (as well as part of the Physical and Spiritual Realms at the same time), that does not mean he should be able to perceive Shadesmar automatically. The act of "entering" Shadesmar makes a person finally perceive the Cognitive Realm, or at least the representation of the Cognitive Realm that his mind presents to him. This means that instead of processing sensory information about the Physical Realm, the mind starts processing sensory information about the Cognitive Realm. At this point, the act is a purely mental (cognitive ) transformation. Worldhoppers like Hoid and Jasnah can go one step further and actually remove themselves from the Physical Realm completely. This simultaneous existence in three realms can be confusing. I tried to make it somewhat less confusing in my L-Theory by conjecturing that objects in the Cosmere are just a bunch of strings connecting the Realms together, which is how they can be in all three Realms at once. In this case, Worldhopping is simply a matter of detaching your Identity's component strings from their location in the Physical Realm, moving them through the Cognitive Realm, and reattaching them to another location in the Physical Realm.
  21. I'm afraid all my Reckoners questions are most definitely RAFO-bait so I'll just wait for Calamity instead of asking Brandon. Like Moogle, I have a list of Cosmere questions ready for these Q&A events. They're in the third part of my sig below. If you just need one question, though, here's one I'd suggest: Is there a force carrier particle (or a variety of force carrier particles) for Investiture in the Cosmere, like how the photon is the force carrier particle for light? In other words, is there a quantum of Investiture? If that is too weird for you, I'll settle for this: Can Chromium Leeching be resisted by Copper Allomancy?
  22. Right-click on the "Edit" button in your first post and then choose "Open link in new tab" (or similar, depending on which browser you're using). This should lead you to the Full Editor page where you can edit the title of the thread. You can also reach the Full Editor by clicking on the "Edit" button and then clicking on the "Use Full Editor" button that appears next to the "Save Changes" button.
  23. My first name is Francis, from the Italian saint, who was apparently named thus because his father liked the French. Or something like that. Incidentally, Scadrial has lots of French sounding stuff, and it is the Shardworld of the skaa. I have a second name. Only enemies call me by my second name.
  24. While there are no natural "Mistcoins", etc., these power combinations can be granted via Hemalurgy, so I think this is a valid topic for discussion. Of course, Hemalurgy can give any number of Allomantic abilities, not just in powers of 2, but I guess we can limit ourselves to that to make things interesting. In addition, let's not include Atium in any of the possible sets. Two Powers Spook became a Tin-Pewter "Mistcoin" for a while in HoA, and a pretty awesome one at that. Pewter and Tin are both Internal Physical and complement each other pretty well. In fact, since Push-Pull pairs in the same Quadrant are naturally complementary, these would be obvious choices when picking a "Mistcoin" power combo. We've seen what a Tin-Pewter can do in HoA. There were also many Iron-Steel combo scenes in the original Mistborn trilogy, where the Mistborn characters combined the two External Physical metals to perform awesome feats that normal Coinshots and Lurchers aren't able to do. Zinc-Brass "Mistcoins" would be master manipulators. Nicrosil-Chromium "Mistcoins" could sow chaos in an Allomantic battlefield. Of course, just because the "natural" pairings of metals are complementary doesn't mean they are the best pairs. Duralumin is only practical when paired with an Allomantic power outside of its Quadrant (Enhancement), while Aluminum is not a good pair for any power. Gold is similarly useless for pairing, though at least Gold won't deplete your metal reserves! Chromium is probably best paired with Bronze (the perfect Allomancy hunter!) and Nicrosil with Copper (Allomancy support combo). Pewter is a good pair for any metal except Aluminum. The best non-Atium Pewter combinations in my opinion are Tin-Pewter (of course ), Pewter-Duralumin, Pewter-Chromium, and Pewter-Bendalloy. In fact, I think a Pewter-Bendalloy user is almost as terrifying as an Atium user. Copper is an interesting pair for either Zinc or Brass because such a combination gives a person both access to and immunity from Emotional Allomancy, in addition to protection from Seeking. Remember that within a Coppercloud (an anti-Seeking region), only the Copper user himself is protected from Rioting and Soothing, so a Zinc-Copper/Brass-Copper user can simultaneously manipulate other people's emotions while protecting his own. Here's an interesting idea for a support member in a team: A Copper-Cadmium "Mistcoin". The idea is for such a member to isolate himself in a hidden room, create a Coppercloud to protect everyone in the house from Seeking, then create a Cadmium bubble inside the room so he could stay awake for days (merely hours in his frame of reference), basically keeping the Coppercloud running for a very long period of time. Assuming this would even work (I am not at all sure that the Coppercloud will extend beyond the bubble), this is also a good way to protect the support member even when he is discovered because as we've seen in AoL, a Cadmium bubble gives reinforcements more time to arrive and save the day. Four Powers As for "Mistsands" (how about calling them "Mistetra" instead?), here are my favorite combinations so far (I'll need more time to think of better ideas): Pewter-Copper-Duralumin-Bendalloy - Awesome short-range offense and awesome defense; one metal per Quadrant. Steel-Pewter-Duralumin-Chromium - Great long range and short range offense; decent defense. Brass-Copper-Chromium-Bendalloy - Mostly non-offensive. Great for people who want to be left alone. Copper-Nicrosil-Cadmium-Bendalloy - A very versatile support set. Tin-Pewter-Bronze/Brass-Bendalloy - A great survival set. Create a time bubble the moment you sense possible danger (e.g. unexpected Allomantic pulses), analyze the situation with enhanced senses, then choose the best course of action. Choose Brass instead of Bronze if you're the only Allomancer around since Soothing people is a great way to keep safe. Iron-Tin-Pewter-Zinc - Crash into things! Make everyone angry! Have fistfights in dark alleys! Long range attacks and bubbles are for wimps! (This is just a joke, of course. I don't like this combination at all.) Why yes, I do like Bendalloy. How can you tell? Oh, and thinking of good sets of four powers reminds me a lot of Pokemon. Eight Powers I guess choosing a set of "Misteye" powers (alternative name suggestion: "Mistoct") is just a matter of removing your 8 least favorite powers from the list. I don't think I'd ever use Iron, Zinc, Bronze, Aluminum, Nicrosil, Gold, Electrum, and Cadmium, so here would be my ideal Misteye/Mistoct powers: Steel, Tin, Pewter, Brass, Copper, Duralumin, Chromium, and Bendalloy.
  25. Not sure if you missed the caption at the bottom of Andrew's photo, but here is what Brandon wrote: "The Cognitive realm is tied to location. The Spiritual realm is not. This impacts the magics..."
