  16. Yeah that totally makes sense! Thanks for explaining! And i think that those pronouns combined with the pfp work really well for that. I was just asking cause I'm a huge nerd and love the fae and a lot of British Isles mythology, and didn't want to miss the possibility of connecting with another nerd of that particular sect.
  17. Tbh, a lot of this is from old British isles folktales, most of which I would have a huge pain tracking down books for again, as a ton of them are out of print and I just read them as I could get my hands on them over the years. Some good places to look to for old stories about the fae are Irish and Welsh Mythology (The Morrígan is a good example of a fae-like being.) The Tale of Chu-Cullen also has the fair folk in it, as does... dang I cant remember the name. And old story about a human king and fae king that swapped kingdoms for a full year, sometimes attributed to the river king, sometimes to the horned king. For fiction that has wonderful fae representations in them, check out the Chronicles of Prydain by Lloyd Alexander, Lords and Ladies, The Wee Free Men, and The Shepherd's Crown by Terry Pratchett, And the King of Elfland's Daughter. to be completely honest, the easiest way for you guys to find sources would be for me to tell you the stories and you try and find them. It's a verbal tradition, and so I memorized the stories, but don't remember where I got them all.
  18. SO! More random Fae Facts! (Please keep in mind this is my own interpretation of the fea, and I will mention other people's interpretations and no one's will line up in all the particulars. Heck, this is one of the least cohesive Mythos I know of! Thank you) So! The fae. When it comes down to it, they are the explanations of natural things, the things greater than humanity in the "medieval mind" of the culture we get them from. The Queen of air and darkness for example, you may feel her presence or that of her subjects as that creepy feeling you get in the woods at night, or the sounds of the wind, when a fellow air is on the place you are. The insidiousness of them. The wee hours of night where mischief is done to you. The River King is both the sparkling, shining river in summer, and the roaring raging flood that sweeps away homes. The Summer Lady is both the burning killing heat of the sun, and the bright beautiful nurturing life of summer. And so it is with all of them. Now, as to what they do, which has been lost so much in our culture. I will start with the Winter, or Unseelie fae. Yes, they must abide by particular rules, but only by the letter of those laws, not the spirit. They cannot enter your home uninvited, but an open window can be an invitation. And when they get in, they pull pranks. But not just little, mostly harmless things. They won't always just sour a keg of ale and move on, no. They will sour that keg if they get a chance, and then more. Steal poets and musicians, to entertain them, steal children and babies to play with, steal livestock. And what they define as play, is anything that makes them laugh. And a lot of the time, killing makes them laugh. They don't see mortals as people. We are animal to them, to be toyed with and killed or saved as their whimsy dictates. And yet, despite all that, they have their Glamour. Their charm. The unknown magic that makes humans find them enchanting. Captivating. Beautiful. It has been put this way, "Elves are awesome: they inspire awe. Elves are enchanting: they put you under enchantments. Elves are terrific: They bring terror. Elves are not nice." As too the Summer, or Seelie fae, They don't find as much amusement in pain, so they don't cause as much. That's about the only difference. That, and some of them see humans not as animals, but as children. Beings, not beasts. Now as to their laws, there are many, but a few are: Do not enter a home without permission. Everything given must be paid for. What terms are stated for a deal must be respected. The rule of three: something done or stated thrice is permanent, and can never be changed. I can come back with more Fae Facts of so wished!
  19. *me, at the chance to finally just talk endlessly in depth about the fae, in their various manifestations, as I have wanted to for years* Lemme grab my laptop and start typing.
