    Bat felt the darkness pulling on him again, insistent and unrelenting. It would not let him speak again. It would smother him. Something about it made his soul shiver. For so long he had existed in a state of dazed flatness--- though it had felt like only several seconds, he knew by the page count that he'd only briefly come aware after a long, long time. The fact that he could be unaware of time passing, the fact that he might never wake up again... He shook off the darkness and reached desperately for Cricket. I don't know what there is to forgive, he managed. But I forgive you. Always. Angry, the darkness reared, smothered him, and he was gone once more.
