Cosmere Adaptation Announcement
Cuendillar replied to Treamayne's topic in General Brandon Discussion
@Trusk'our, what is your title (or whatever the name you get from likes is) right now? I doubt the culture will shift too much. Pure-movie watchers are unlikely to post on an online book forum. Although, we could maybe use a separate adaptation section. -
I agree. The best case scenario is they’re like LOTR. While many people think that the movies are better than the books (not me), the LOTR community is still massively benefited from the popularity they have. In our situation, we’d probably get more people reading the books, and interacting on the forum. The worst case scenario is that they’re either forgettable or apocalypticly bad, in which case nothing will change, other than the fact Sanderson probably won’t push as hard for future adaptations. Wait, I actually really want to watch this. Bavadin needs to suffer.

[RoW] Kaladin and his Terrifying Use of Lashings
Cuendillar replied to Mystic's topic in Stormlight Archive
Division can be used ranged according to the Cosmere RPG. Although regular use of division requires touch, there is a specific talent that allows you to perform division on each target in an area. It’s not an incredibly large area, but it is possible. -

Cool. Hopefully Brandon stops it from ending up like the Wheel of Time. -

And I considered myself more knowledgeable than most about the church for knowing what Kolob is.
-
Although, Vin isn't an incredible example of the average Mistborn. Aluminum bullets to inhibit pewter will reduce their capabilities further. I concur that Mistborn are wasted on the battlefield and would make exemplary assassins—like in TFE.

We did. (Although it was surprise). Vin obliterated, from what I remember, hundreds of soldiers.

I would disagree, Jasnah has much less power than you would think. Dalinar and Navani really “dominate” the coalition, and they are monarchs of Urithiru, not Alethkar, while Jasnah rules over lands she doesn’t even control. But she’s not the official nor unofficial representative of the Coalition. The Coalition of Monarchs is very emphasized to be equal. The best representative for the Coalition would be Adolin, the only person who actually acted on behalf of the Coalition in a non-strategic manner. I disagree, and the main driver of the argument was not trust, although that certainly played a part, Taravangian was far less trustworthy. The main driver was utilitarianism, whether acting with honor was worth it despite the costs, and what it means to act honorably. It’s definitely arguable that Jasnah is not to be trusted, but that doesn’t justify a complete betrayal and defection to the opposing side.

Aradan Liese, Smokestacks Aradan thanked Thav and tucked the iron in the pocket of his coat. Looking around, he walked over and sat on one of the chairs, thinking. This is a nice place. If he’s willing to work with me long term, than this would be an excellent base of operations. Now to think about something else. If I am to effectively deal justice to criminals, I can’t just do it by myself—or even with a team of sorts. I can’t be there everytime someone is mugged, but maybe I can make them think I will be… Criminals often get their way through the fear of retribution, what if I did something similar? Aradan then realized he still had some pewter left unburned. I have more anyways. He then flared his pewter and stored the resulting recovery/healing effects into his goldminds. @Steel Speedster

That actually is often the way to “convince” someone of the validity of your morality. The essence of religion is faith, it lies in believing that God(or gods, etc.) is real. And conversion most often consists of convincing the convert that both: God is real, and the converters (don’t have a great universal term for this) are his representatives.

Aradan Liese, Smokestacks Aradan followed Thav into the hideout, scanning around for traps. Apparently satisfied, he took a second to put his things down and stretch. He then replied, “I’m mostly fine on supplies, though I could use some iron. I never really had the opportunity to get much of a stockpile. What’s above us? Is it like a front for this place or is it owned by someone else? Is it unclaimed?" @Steel Speedster

Afaik, there is an “outer darkness” that is equivalent to a traditional hell, but in order to arrive there, you must have a full knowledge of the gospel and then reject it. Not requirements most people meet, except for the sons of perdition.

It’s true, I wouldn’t have had knowledge of Kharbranth. Now that I have some more time to think, here’s what I would do. I would still reject Taravangian’s offer. Once the assassins took control of the Thaylen Council, which of course I wouldn’t have knowledge of, I’d probably have to get Jasnah’s help. With her authoritarian tendencies—although she claims otherwise—Jasnah would probably be willing to help me self-coup so the Thaylen Council cannot relieve me of power. would of course, force her to reveal any assassins or agents in Thaylenah. After this, as I said in my original response, I’ll probably try to settle the build infrastructure through the Frostlands and former Kharbranth so I can reach Narak. My reasons are thus: I obviously can’t trust Taravangian. He’ll either find a loophole in any agreement I make or make the agreement irrelevant somehow. Also, while I’d consider myself slightly leaning to a realist/utilitarian perspective (although not nearly as much as Taravangian or Jasnah), joining Odium would be a betrayal of everything the Coalition was for.

Aradan Liese, Mistwarrens For a moment, Aradan paused. After a split second, he decided Thav was being honest with him. He then spoke, “That sounds fine. I’ll help you if you help me. Would you be willing to show me your place in . . . you said, ‘Smokestack,’ right?"

The main problem is his agents on the Thaylen Council and his assassins. I would threaten Odium (as he is still Odium at this point and thus cannot smite me) with revealing his secret destruction and subsequent preservation of Kharbranth in the SR. Assuming he doesn’t want Cultivation to know his vulnerability, then I’d require him to withdraw his Fused and use his agents to make myself more powerful to ignore the Merchant Council. With that, I would prepare Thaylenah for what will be essentially a blockade, unless ports are opened. If possible, I’d attempt to demand more concessions like the opening of various ports, specifically the rivers leading into Azir and the Shattered Plains. With access to Azir, we’d be able to connect all the free nations together (as long as Urithiru’s magic barrier goes away eventually). I’d eventually try to create a fairly democratic nation, with an expanded Thaylen Council. With the agreement still in place to protect from Retribution and access to trade with Azir/Urithiru/Narak, Thaylenah would likely be alright, even if in a bit of a recession. Hopefully with the help of maybe Navani/the Urithiru artifabrians, Stormlight could be recreated with either Warlight or liquid from Retribution’s perpendicularity. With the areas being unpopulated and uncontrolled, hopefully the Frostlands and former Kharbranth could be settled to expand Thaylenah’s territory.

Harmony specifically intervened to allowed koloss to breed. I suspect the way it works is that all the “koloss” are a race of “koloss-blooded,” whether or not they have spikes or not. What I mean is that “koloss” genes don’t exist and Harmony made it so that the koloss blooded traits are just regular. I’d be like if some inquisitors reproduced and then passed down their spikes to their child. The child didn’t “inherit” the hemalurgy, even if they did end up the same as their parent.

Partly explained by this, maybe they used something like the Ire connection orbs: Explained by this, the vessel does influence shardic intent, but not permanently: These suggest Ado shattered into specific shards, not just "blank canvas" shards: Have a nice day! Interesting theory though. There's a lot we don't know about the shattering.

Oh, that's a shame. Corn tortillas are great, but are definitely less common than they should be. You do have to spice those up more.
